Regardless of what Tim Sexton puts out for code... I think we can all be glad Dwight isn't on this.

Edit: all of you who are down voting this can't possibly be giving him a pass for him completely failing at GB...come on!

#135 5 years ago

Lol lots of Dwight apologists in here... Sorry, he laid an egg on GB...and Stern needs to get their ass in gear and rectify it as they promised.

#351 5 years ago
Quoted from Auror:

The leaked playfield looks suspiciously like a Game of Thrones reskin. I wonder who designed that game...

Honestly, there are few games I wouldn't mind seeing reskins of...provided these games would not replace all-new games in the production cycle. GOT is one of them. Iron Maiden is another, as well as Jersey Jack's Dialed In. I love the gameplay of those games, but the theme doesn't really pull me in.

#391 5 years ago
Quoted from Trekkie1978:

I think I'm in on the LE.
This must be the first unlicensed licensed theme in the pinball world.

Ever hear of Dialed in?

#398 5 years ago
Quoted from Grandnational007:

I'm stumped. Is "Crazy Bob" a licensed asset?
I'm no lawyer, and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night, but I can't think of anything that is licensed in DI.

You know what, my eyes completely misread what the quoted poster said. I missed the "licensed" after "unlicensed"...more caffeine needed for me today, my bad!

#399 5 years ago
Quoted from CrazyLevi:

I think it's easy for people to get hyped when a Stern is announced because they know they'll probably be playing it within a month and it's easy to get carried away. So far that's only true for Stern games.

Over/Under on JJP hitting the 60 day ship deadline on Wonka?

#528 5 years ago
Quoted from bigdaddy07:

Any word on pricing?

Same as the last couple Pro/Prem/LE releases.

#578 5 years ago

I heard Stern was really nervous on how this one would sell. I am thinking it is going to sell decently for them, at least to the enthusiast crowd. I'd love to know the breakdown of percentage sales to operators versus home buyers.

Not going to lie, this makes Munsters Pro kind of look like a Gottlieb 80B by comparison.

#748 5 years ago
Quoted from f3honda4me:

You should share your distro then so others can benefit as well from the lower prices.

Please don't do this. Then the distributor gets burned by Stern and everyone loses. Take it to PM!

#749 5 years ago
Quoted from yancy:

Topper in 2019 or 2020?

I heard 26 months.

#1000 5 years ago

I am not a fan of playfield protectors, but I think I would cut a piece of .020" PET-G for the clear top playfield if I bought a premium. It would be somewhat easy to swap that piece out when it eventually gets dirty, as opposed to polishing or replacing the WPT-esque clear playfield.

#1003 5 years ago
Quoted from Bublehead:

I have owned a Stern SAM FGY for 10 years. Minimal maintenance with a fair amount of play. No experience with SPIKE, but there is a lot of node board anxiety floating around here to make me only a cautious believer in the board set. But you got to buy one to know, so this may be me jumping into the new Stern pool with a life preserver that has a hole in it.

I think you are making a bit of a mountain out of a molehill. The original problem is not anywhere near as widespread is Pinside would make you think, and Stern has started to release schematics for their prior node boards.

#1016 5 years ago
Quoted from Bublehead:

Ok, then maybe I should have said it this way-
Despite the negative things people have posted on the SPIKE system and node board issues here on Pinside, BKSR is a title that would make me ignore all that and purchase a NIB Stern.
Or how else do you want me to express a cautious change in my opinion of SPIKE? Sorry I didnt drink the koolaid as fast as Jim Jones would have liked me to, but I did say I want to drink it.
You have to give people a little credit for reading, understanding, and researching a potential $9000 purchase, and expressing a reluctance to move to the SPIKE boardset after owning a SAM system is not heresy, but cautious optimism.
Why turn over this rock looking for a fight, when I already said Stern won?

No worries... I wasn't trying to slam you, but I just wanted to make sure that people aren't thinking the node boards are so fragile that they are made of glass or something.

#1019 5 years ago
Quoted from Bublehead:

Ok, anyone else think this? Stern... why even try on Pro models? Why not create a standard PRO playfield with a fan layout, 2 ramps with vacuformed returns, One bash target/toy/magnet, a set of 4 standups, a 3 bank of drop targets, one scoop, one spinner, 3 jets, and a 3 lane rollover. Now every PRO really IS the same, you don’t change the rules, you just change the artwork, callouts, and sounds/music. So the price is the same, the features never change, but the casual player wont care, he’s getting too ducking frunk trying to get the bar maid to give him her number. Does anyone else think Pro models are the Gottlieb wedgeheads of the new millennia?
Wait, this is what they really do... isn’t it? my bad.

No, no, No, No, no, no and No. I think.

I think they do a good job of giving people options. Some people are drawn to toys and complicated layouts, so you have the Premium/LE. Some of the pro games actually shoot much better than their Premium counterparts (GOT, GB)...so flow fanatics are actually better off with the cheaper games. Stern obviously has their shit together and is firing on all 8 cylinders...their business model is literally printing them money right now. I am finding it really hard to bitch right now, when you see what has been happening over at Stern the last 12-24 months. We are not that far removed from the era of World Poker Tour and 24.

Can't they both be fun?

#1043 5 years ago
Quoted from BradKreisler:

Does anyone else feel that the BK turned into the Mountain? What’s up with all the muscles. Muscle armor? BK Swords of Roid Rage. Just looks off to me.

Nobody really knows what is under the armor... But a 110 lb bean pole twerp isn't exactly menacing. Apologies to any bean pole twerps reading this thread.

#1057 5 years ago
Quoted from BradKreisler:

I suppose. But you didn’t see stern add a bunch of muscles to Spider-Man, or Venom for that matter. Nor to Deadpool to make him more menacing. He was still a bean pole.

I'm not really seeing the huge change you are describing. The themes you mentioned above are already established by their creator. This Black Knight theme is not shackled down by the content creator like the licensed themes you are citing.

This does seem to look a lot like the black knight I keep seeing associated with Fortnite when I do Google image searches. Deadflip should have no problem getting a dead ringer of a costume for this one.

Quoted from RustyLizard:

Has anyone considered that MGC had something like 31 Iron Maidens on the floor last year and it was the biggest launch ever? Maybe the people of that show are being rewarded.

I think the timeline of this launch mainly is due to Stern having a pretty loaded calendar of releases this year. Wouldn't be surprised to see the next cornerstone drop the last week of June or the first week of July. We know there is an Elvira on deck, and probably at least Jurassic World, Superman 78 and a music pin in the mix right now as well.

I thow my balls in the vibratory polisher with my ammo cases for a few hours and they come out looking like new. A polished set of balls is a beautiful thing.

#1127 5 years ago
Quoted from HighVoltage:

Lost me after this. I'm sure there are other Christians who are equally offended by this. This happens way too often on here.
If you don't like the following response, then refrain from using my savior's name in vain.

Protip: Not everybody believes in the same special imaginary friends as you.

Protip: We're here to discuss pinball, so slandering anyone's religion is out of order. If you do, don't be surprised to get an equally off-topic response.

Your evangelism is offensive to many other religions...if you are offended, use the ignore button. Save the preaching for church.

I think for me, this will be one to wait and see where the code winds up. Deadpool felt the same way to me in the beginning, and its really turning the corner now. The drains seem to be pretty brutal and frequent. The upper PF on the LE seems like you'll have a lot of time spent watching the ball ride the bottom rail and not be able to do anything about it with the flipper. The animations look really good though.

#2532 5 years ago

I'm really thinking Stern purposely releases games with crappy code in order to have two or more sales windows with each game. "Gotta have it" people and ops get it right out of the gate. Then when sales die down a bit, they release new code to drive sales interest again.

#2676 5 years ago
Quoted from jgentry:

How can you mention WOZ as setting the bar then turn around and say sterns are dark? WOZ might have the worst GI lighting of any modern game. The insert lighting is beautifully done with some very nice affects. You cant see anything other then the inserts on that game in a dark room. So that's a really strange comparison to me.

ACNC has some pretty dark GI also.

36 months or so.

While you get pissy about my answer, we still do not have a Star Wars topper...and it has been 22 months.

Played the pro at Pinfest. I did not really find this game to be as brutal as everyone was making it out to be. I didn't drain off the center target at all after several hits. I had a decent length game the first go-round. I enjoyed it, but didn't feel I needed to run out and buy one. This is actually a good sign for me though, as I hated Iron Maiden and GOTG when I played them at first, but both really grew on me over time.

#3353 4 years ago
Quoted from guymontag451:

That's how we set our games too. All the way up in the back, slammed to the ground in the front. How pinball should be set up in my opinion. DEATH TO FLAT GAMES!

You should have played the Victory at Pinfest. You could go grab a hot dog and come back before the ball came back to the flippers.

#3391 4 years ago
Quoted from aeonblack:

I have absolutely no problem taking peoples criticisms of games, but I do have a problem with people who can't seem to understand that personal preference does not equal fact. Lots of people like TAF, I think it's a boring overhyped game, but I'm not going to act like it's a universal truth that TAF is a boring overhyped game, it's just not my taste.
Regardless, I don't give a shit about anything, and it feels good to not care very much, and I just want more people to relax and stop stressing about pinball and just have fun. I know it's a pipe dream, but, be the change you want to see.

I'm with you on TAF... It's okay, but not worth the money it brings.

Physical enhancement? They giving it a boob job?

#3756 4 years ago
Quoted from newtoit:

Youre not a true BK fan if you cancelled your order. I wss in on this game when I heard a faint whisper that it might be released.

Are you the official BKSOR gatekeeper?

Found the physical enhancement!

Quoted from jeffspinballpalace:

Could code customization become one of the most entertaining things Stern has introduced and be as fun as a barrel of monkeys? YES and this needs to be exploited a little further.

I think something like this will be possible once the machines have the ability to go online. All Spike 2 games will be able to go online once it is rolled out.

I still enjoy playing the pro. Not sure if it would last at home in a lineup, but I've missed it since it rotated out of the local places I know of. Operator does not share where he puts is pins if I call and ask where one went next...dumb, I know.
