Quoted from Pinballer73:

As soon as I heard this was coming out I was super excited, had my name down for an LE and was offered one by our local distributor. I own both the original BK and BK2K.
However, after seeing the Dead Flip stream, I was really disappointed. The theme had been altered from the originals in my view, the Dark Knight had become some sort of futuristic horse riding warrior and you had to battle sandworms!?? Did anyone else feel this way?
I cancelled my order and haven't looked back until I saw the code update announcement this morning. Not trying to start a fight, just generally curious if others were so put off by the change.

Youre not a true BK fan if you cancelled your order. I wss in on this game when I heard a faint whisper that it might be released.

This game is great! Love my LE. First SPIKE keeper for me

I needed to get rid of a game to buy this one but Star Wars was a keeper, so I dug deeper and kept it too.

Are you the official BKSOR gatekeeper?

Quoted from JodyG:

Are you the official BKSOR gatekeeper?

Thats a badge Id wear proudly. Its a game that should have never happened but miraculously it did. And its an incredible game that will be the best game ever created once Tim Sexton shows off this new code.

After Monday the stock in BK is going up get it while you can.

I hope someone will post the following onto the BKSOR thread. Thanks.

Hey Guys, I have some fixes for a couple problems you guys have mentioned on Pinside:

For JeffsPinballPalace:

Your Minion/Monster modes are set on difficult, and that's why you are frustrated! Go to game features adjustments. Adjustment #'s 21, 22, 23. 24, and 25 adjust the Worm, Hydra, Hell Hand, Magma Beast, and Lich Lords. Set them to Easy or Medium. I am not a good player and just completed 4 of them on Medium. There are not 3 levels to the modes. The modes are simple to achieve when set to factory Medium. Now we can calm down and enjoy some pinball!

To Anaraf, and anyone else who is having trouble shooting up the Flail lane to the upper playfield:

Power off. Take the glass off the playfield. Get a ball out of the trough. Level the Flail horizontally with your hand and rub the ball along both side walls and the floor *simultaneously* in the flail lane up and down from top to bottom. If you feel a click on the ball passing over one or more of the screws securing the flail lane floor, grab a #2 Phillips screwdriver and tighten them until you don't feel the click anymore. Screws sticking up too high will make it difficult to get the ball up to the upper playfield. The ball will slam into stuff on the the bottom of the upper playfield.

You could be having other problems with the flail lane, since you removed the upper playfield, which is no crime, but perhaps it didn't get fastened down correctly. Get a flashlight and see if you can see any obstruction in the ball's path up to the 180 degree scoop. You may have to take the playfield off again to see if wires or anything else are hanging down in the ball's path. Good luck!

Someone wrote that the Upper Playfield Cables running through the back panel don't all fit in the holes. Not true. If it were true, how did we ever build games and connect the connectors? The biggest connector goes in first, then the smaller cables on the left side. Form the wires coming out of the big connector to lay down parallel with the long edge of the connector a bit before you try this.

BKSOR definitely has flipper and other coil power adjustments! I suggest you use them before you alter your games.

Whip out your manuals and find all the adjustments you can make. There are more in BKSOR than ever before. Our engineers, Mark Guidarelli, Chuck Bleich, Tim Sexton and others have worked their butts off to advance our software and hardware. Put it to good use. Make your game fun for you, eliminate cranky posts, and enjoy your games as you like them.

Most of our games now have interlock switches on the coin door. When you open the door power is disconnected from the playfield. The interlock switch can be defeated for service by pulling it out (towards the coin door) a click. Voila! You can now enter diagnostics and make adjustments. Be careful.

Please read your manuals!

Had the same feeling myself. Also own both the original and BK2K. Played the Pro a dozen or more times and thought it was fun but lacking. Put up a handful of games on a Premium and fell in love with the game. Might be a few years down the road I will get one. Simply can't afford one right now and not really looking to sell anything yet.

Great feedback and info - thx. I’ll get my operator to adjust mode difficulty settings. I have a feeling this game is about to get greater and I may be falling in love.

It is certainly a different style of game, but to me it feels like a natural and updated extension of the series. Have you played one with an upper play field?

No, I haven't played one at all. Yet to spot one in the wild here Australia. Perhaps I'd change my mind if/when I get the opportunity.

Quoted from Midway-Man:

No actually not. It a weird thing Stern started doing. The first Spike(1) games had it. WWE and Kiss. However Stern removed them starting wit GOT and GB. Moving to Spike(2) BM66, AS, SW, GOTG, DP, Munsters didn't have one. However it must have been in the last few weeks. Stern started adding interlock switches again. I know of a few BM66 and now BKSOR owners their games so have on. Its just weird... Oh no wait its Stern...

Thank GOD. I *hated* getting my fingers smashed when checking shooter lane switches and forgetting that the auto launch was still live. Getting rid of the interlock was D-U-M-B.

Manuals??? We don’t need no stinking manuals!!!

#3765 4 years ago

My LE doesn't have an interlock and neither does my Star Wars. That really does suck if you are having a great game and need to remove the glass for some reason or especially if you are using it in a tournament. Fortunately I have never had a stuck ball on either game, but it will wait til that worst possible moment I'm sure. For Star Wars I don't even see a menu selection for coin door ball saver or to disable tilt while coin door is open. Without those I really don't see a reason to have an interlock. Fortunately those settings are in the BK standard adjustments menu. Looks like I will have to contact Stern and see about getting a harness for my BK!

Stern Pinball will be revealing new Black Knight code and a new physical game enhancement only for the Premium and Limited Edition models this Monday, June 24th.
This exciting code update contains a new RANSOM WIZARD MODE, featuring sounds, speech and display effects from Black Knight 2000!
In addition, there is a new LAST CHANCE feature, allowing players to continue the action of their gaming experience with an enhanced SUPER CATAPULT MULTIBALL!
This code is exclusively for the Premium and Limited Edition models. New Pro code is coming soon.
In addition to this code update, Stern will reveal a new physical game enhancement that will extend the upper playfield gameplay experience.
To highlight the action, Stern will be hosting a live stream event with Dead Flip Pinball Streaming Jack Danger and the game team to take you through these new features! Live stream starts at 5pm CST on Monday, June 24th at - https://www.twitch.tv/deadflip

My Guess...
The physical game enhancement will be $299
Play better
Pay better
Most likely it would be something Steve had to remove due to BOM and now you have the option to pay for ala carte....
This could be new product line for them to tap..

Lets be honest, Stern doesn’t do things for free

Yeah, I know it’s just silly.
But if my understanding is correct, you can’t even test switches. Since all nodeboards get turned completely off. But I can’t confirm that, since my GB doesn’t have an interlock.
I’m curious if Stern is offering those for customers soon.

#3768 4 years ago

Just pull the interlock out

#3769 4 years ago

I love my Black Knight.. its fun. My buddy from high school came over , I thought he would be amazed.. he just looked at it said "meh" then walked away.. but at least he thought the music was cool. Can't wait to see what Stern has for it. Good work.

Probably for the best, the game would kick his butt.

Wrong. There is a setting for that. "Coin door node bus power". For all we know that probably just disables the coil power anyway.

I feel like the just used poor wording I doubt they are adding something physical.

What part of "physical enhancement that will extend upper playfield experience" doesnt sound like something actually physical.

I imagine itll be a lamp matrix feature like the funhouse mirror telling you which shot is ready to collect.

Yea this just seems totally against anything they have ever done .. also will it always be extra or included in future builds . Interesting to say the least .

Maybe it's like pinball Viagra

#3777 4 years ago

as long as I'm not having to get a drill out, sacrifice chickens or take up voodoo to make the change its great news that they are taking feedback and improving stuff.

#3778 4 years ago
Quoted from AUKraut:

Physical game enhancement -> bigger playfield posts in the lower rubber ring area on the upper playfield causing the ball to bounce instead of allowing the ball to drain away from the upper flipper
That would be my guess.....
I will say this, and especially the Premium/LE: This game is growing on me, it's going from a "not-for-me" level to a "This-might-be-a-great-game-when-the-code-is-done" level!

I have the Pro and I agree. I went from buyer’s remorse to absolutely loving this game.

It's really strange for Stern. Good, but really strange. While they are at it, can they go back and re-visit every criticism for every game and produce add-ons for those as well?

To each his own. Not only in regards to this game, but what I am about to show. I love Black Knight. With some tweaking, it plays exactly how I like my pinball. Challenging, simple-ish rule set, fun and that "one more game" thing more than most. Adjust those posts, adjust the flippers down to normal till it starts wearing in, understand the rules and the shots available on the upper playfield. They matter, a lot.

I love toppers. I haven't always, but I do now. I also enjoy making things, especially on games I love and I know I want to leave my customized mark on. I know they aren't for everyone, and that is certainly ok. Below is what I made with input and help from my son, who also loves the game, the character and the game play. It's a little big, but I figure we can use this till when and if a Stern topper comes out if we like it. Then, this XXL version can go on a shelf in my office.

It isn't tough.
-Relatively cheap helmet off ebay
-Stair stringer ripped to 7.5 inch by 11. Make sure its the 1 inch ones. 3/4 won't allow clearence of the chin.
-Platidip (6 coats)
-Led set off amazon
-L bracket and hardware to attach helmet to board
-Industrial Velcro (topper attachment if desired)
-Metallic gold acryllic paint for details (if desired)
-Wood putty to mold plume holder
-Bird feathers (I used 5,come in multiples per pack)

I thought it turned out pretty cool. My son is blown away, and ultimately he is the most important critic. I thought I'd share though. (Last photo shows me joking around with it as ordered before customization)

Helmet looks great what was your total build time? Wonder how closely Stern’s topper will resemble this one, but I’ll bet yours is better. We have three BKSoR topper designs already - your helmet, Stern’s helmet (not revealed) and knight hologram fan (not revealed). Now you’ll need some weaponry for your gameroom. I am seeing a flail and sword of rage in your future. They make great toys, but be careful not to cut off your johnson.

Ha. I'd really like a life-size "Knight that says Nee!"

Build time? Not sure. A couple nights in between games? Waiting between coats of plati dip took the longest. I imagine Sterns will be smaller.

The flail is a great idea! That would look cool somewhere on one of my walls.

Just played a mode that had all the sounds from the original game, very cool. No idea what it was or how I got to it.

Also, interlock does not reset the game when coindoor is open, so all good with the interlock.

You were fighting the Black Knight it sounds like. You spelled KNIGHT then started the mode on the far left shot I'm guessing.

Thatd be awesome to not know there was a retro mode and find it for yourself

Steve, I know I speak for many when I say thanks for your message. It's great to know you guys pay attention to how the game is performing and how it's being received.

Coil power adjustments won't help us with this one though... The factory power setting on flipper coils was already set to high

Can't wait for the new code tomorrow!

The announcement says: "In addition to this code update, Stern will reveal a new physical game enhancement that will extend the upper playfield gameplay experience." So unless they go full Banzai Run from the upper playfield, it is most definitely not the topper.

#3795 4 years ago

Added Skelton warrior with green led eyes and its hooked up to the spinner switch to flicker when the spinner is hit. A very cool interactive mod! Might make more of these....
And added red leds to the sword with a relay to only turn on when the ball is in the shooter lane.

Quoted from Hazoff:

To Mr. Ritchie thank you sir for making a fantastic pin. Don't let Stern influence ur call outs, lets keep the game as joke free as possible.

What do you mean by joke free I personally love the funny call outs

Yeah, that baby voice will never get old. I like the mix of jokes and serious. I do agree with comment that the recordings sound like they are mixed in terms of quality. Some are loud and clear while others sound muffled. Also I'm pretty certain that the "boosted" call outs are the same as the ones from Ernie Hudson in GB, but whatever .
