Quoted from Lethal_Inc:

Game looks frickin awesome, can’t wait to play it. Pluses for me, art work, sound package (metal rules!), and BK interactive toy. Negatives, no upper playfield on the pro, too many feeds to the left flipper, only 1 ramp, not enough loops for super fast Ritchie flow.

You mean the right flipper? No feeds to the left one....

Long shot - but anyone else ever play Ultima Underworld on DOS/PC? First ever game in 3D, and you had to eat/drink to survive. This theme is right up my alley.

Got in on an LE

Yep I'm old enough for that game

I say to my wife, I wanna show you something cool.
*Wife* Something you think is cool that you want me to see? Or something you think I'll think is cool?
*me* Plays teaser
*Wife* Let's get that!

Haha I shows my wife the vid. She said “here’s what’s going to happen...you’ll want to order it then watch the gameplay then tell me you’re worried about the code blah blah blah.”

Me: “Correct.”

#905 5 years ago

Looks ridiculously awesome! Would be even cooler if on draining last ball Ritchie voices “fatality”.......homage to mortal kombat. Mk4 style, maybe a little deeper.

Yep. It sure does look purrty, and the theme is exactly up my alley, but I'll wait to play it first before committing.

They did pay something.. How Much? We will never know. Game is liscened by Williams.

The license is not Held by Williams anymore but Planetary Pinball isn't it?

Whomever it is, they said they'd be so happy if Steve Makes a third Black Knight game, they'd let him use it free of charge.

DOESN'T MEAN THEY ACTUALLY DID IT, but Steve Ritchie said so himself in a Seminar couple of years ago.

How come there's no flat overhead image of the premium playfield?

This game is so beautiful I want to cry...

#912 5 years ago

Has anyone mentioned the right flipper thing from bk2k yet?

#913 5 years ago

Yeah the Premium is way the best art package

#914 5 years ago

Congrats to Stern, Steve, Kevin and the rest of the BKSOR team. Game looks stellar!

Quoted from RGR:

Agree (before I said pro because I thought the premium was the pro, the way it was presented to me thought the first one was pro).

If the premium art was on the LE I would get that no questions.

I like the LEs features but can add most of that like side art and shaker, but basically prefer the art on the premium.

Like it looks great but its only one that has Swords!

#919 5 years ago

Can someone tell me what's going on? I mean is the mace spinner a ramp? how does the balls get to the upper PF? Is there any inner loops like (for example Quarra or Gem shots from Tron? I like mini loops.

Quoted from bigd1979:

? That most shots are from the right flippers?

The original BK did not rely on the right flipper heavily IMO. The top playfield left flipper to lock and jackpot is an epic shot.

#921 5 years ago

Left loop to VUK

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

If what Stern has been doing for 30 years is wrong, I don't wanna be right!

This is fatuous. Sure the game looks like it’s going to be decent, but any BK without an upper playfield is:

1) counter intuitive
2) blasphemous
3) heretical
4) just plain absurd
5) total bullshit

YMMV...I guess.

It has nothing to do with being good, it has everything to do with selling products. If people don't like what Stern or McDonald's are doing they would be out of business.

Most people are poor and/or lazy and stupid. So you’re right. Congrats.

#924 5 years ago

Levi, lol dont get me started but if Stern was that concerned they would have innovated first! Namely LCD/LEDs... Why did it take a brand new company to do it first?

"If people don't like what Stern or McDonald's are doing they would be out of business." <--- unless they are the only ones in it which means that people dont have a choice....

Because JJP, like Tiger Woods did for golf, changed pinball for good and for the better

Where were we 8 yrs ago? Oh yeah, I was buying LOTRLE closeout for $5k

Yeah and Stern being in the business for 30 years could not have done it? JJP cabinets and playfields are better as well... Its shameful/

I bought a T2 for 1500, STTNG for 2800, fireball for 1700, white water for 3000, I don't even want to look at the rest....

Quoted from bigd1979:

? That most shots are from the right flippers?

I played a game of BK2K last night without using the left flipper just as a reminder not to believe anything that I hear repeated 1000 times on Pinside. I got less than 10% of my normal scores.

That argument is lacking really hard on so many levels...

I don't know the legalese and don't really care to but the trailer lists Williams Electronic Games and PPS so my guess is both are involved in it. Probably WEG through PPS, but again it doesn't really matter since it's clear they got it done. I wonder if they licensed it because of the music they wanted to use from BK2K, even if re-done it would still be owned by WEG/PPS I would guess. Like I said though, they got it done and that's all that really matters.

#932 5 years ago
Quoted from sublime90803:

Can we pause for a second and take a moment to realize what a momentous occasion this is? Pinball is now doing well enough that Stern is able to produce an original theme for the first time in like 29 years. With talented artists such as Zombie Yeti and Dirty Donny at the helm, we could enter another golden Era where original artwork is back on original themed games. I hope they sell the hell out of this so they see that we don't always need/ want to see a photo shopped image of a movie character or band members face. It's nice to have actual artwork and original music. This is a huge day for pinball across the world. Hopefully we'll see more in the 2019-2029 decade and it will be remembered as the second golden Era of original games.

So High Roller Casino and Striker Extreme were licensed? Let’s not hyperbolize here. And the third installment of a game isn’t exactly an original theme. Just sayin’.

If you mean injected $$$ and drove purses(prices) higher than yes. But Tiger Woods transcends golf. JJP is nothing like that at all.

#936 5 years ago

Just trying to wrap my head around the layout. On the Premium, my understanding of the shots, from left to right, are as follows...

1. 2 stand-up targets
2. VUK to upper playfield w/ drop target
3. Orbit w/ spinner
4. Ramp to ??? (the upper playfield) w/ automated spinning flail which is like a mini-golf windmill.
5. 1 stand-up target
6. Shield lock shot which acts as a ball lock
7. 1 stand-up target
8. Orbit w/ spinner
9. 3 drop targets

Few Questions:

- Does the ramp also feed the upper playfield? If not, where does it exit?
- Does the Shield Lock feed into the VUK, or just lock behind the shield. It looks like there might be a gate.
- I assume at least one orbit feeds the pops, is this done with gates or posts? Can it be fed by either orbit?
- Do the pops always feed directly into the VUK, or is there another exit?

Within 72 hours of its release, Yellow Brick Road was dead.

That is totally WRONG! I don't think you understand how this game is being sold and has been sold. High end retail stores sell this as fast as they can put it on the floor. Super Rich people buy this for their basement. WOZ is more like a collector game like artwork, its the single most nostalgic movie in history. I'd bet the massive percentage of people who buy it don't collect pinball its like artwork for the themed basement.

That game is probably already sold out.

Does WOZ Yellow Brick Road look like a game as fun as Black Knight? NO WAY Black Knight looks amazing but WOZ is a totally different market.

#938 5 years ago

It's been a long, long, long time since I have been truly excited about a NIB pinball title from any manufacturer - but BKSoR has definitely hooked me. I love BK2K so I guess theme matters.

It's just so hard to pull the trigger on this given recent code challenges but I sooooooo want to … don't let us down on this one Stern!

They have licensed it (maybe for free, like it was said), including the music.

BK2000 music was composed by Steve Ritchie himself, so there propably wasn't any issues here.

Maybe, maybe not. If his contract didn't allow him to own the copyright of his work while employed by WMS, including music he doesn't own it. I've seen multiple bands live (Cake comes to mind first, what a let down that was - not a single song I'd ever heard and about 10 minutes of bitching about record companies) that won't / can't play their hits because they don't own the rights to them and it would cost them too much to use it. Music licensing is a very weird business, probably worse that pinball and video games.

P.S. I said I didn't care about the legalese (and I don't) but still weighed back into this - D'OH!

It's a weak analogy i agree BUT, pinball isn't where we are at today without JJP.

Stern had to raise its game and get its shit together as a result.

No such thing as a "collector" Woz game or anything JJP for that matter. Are you new to pinball?

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Now that's a fuckin' teaser baby!!!!
Extra kudos for waitin till today just to piss off everybody who had a TPF ticket.

I thought about this and I think, while not be the thing we want them to do, it is the respectful thing to do for all vendors that bring lots of existing machines for play and sale. Like the shitload of Munsters Premiums Marco brought.

Since Stern relies heavily on them promoting their machines for them it's not the best thing to lock away mones/ sales by presenting a new machine right at the beginning of a show.

So while Stern still is revealing games at tech- or amusement shows (where there is no pinball retailer), they'd propably never ever again reveal a major game at a pinball show.

Looking at the playfield, would it appear that the Orange parts of the lightening wheel signifies modes and the yellow part important shot features when lit.

#950 5 years ago

Wow, looks great! The spinning flail/spinner and shield target is genius. I also love how the playfield art is reminiscent of the line art of BK2000, but adds more detail and color. Can’t wait to play it and HEAR it!
