Interesting that Stern pre-annouced this, with the reveal of the game coming early next year. Not their normal MO.
The real question is, will this be the first Pin with the new boards/LCD, or will that be Borg's game (F&F?) this summer?

Quoted from Benaar:That's exactly what they did with Transformers.
Before I was in the hobby....
Quoted from rad:Maybe not their normal MO, but a good way to gain mindshare/attention and start people thinking about spending their pin funds on the next Stern instead of some other manufacturers.
Agreed.
Quoted from benheck:Well between this theme and F&F 7 being delayed (possibly cancelled) I'd say the chances of an F&F pin are now 0%
The Mustang Pin isn't something new. It's been brewing for several months, which means it was decided independently of F&F.
Quoted from unigroove:They're not doing 2 car themes back to back. Borg is not working on F&F. If you listen to the Spooky Pinball podcast you may be able to connect the dots after you heard them talk about Mustangs and knowing that is now announced.
That was the plan until Paul Walker died. Now it's up in the air.
Quoted from swf127:It's an opportunity for a telephone pole ball lock or scoop down to a lower playfield. What's the problem?
Not funny.
Quoted from unigroove:That was not the plan I heard at Expo. My source had Mustang correct and I'm pretty sure he's also correct about Borg's theme. Again, read between the lines of the Spooky podcast and you'll know.
Don't need to make arbitrary guesses between the lines. I have trusted sources.
