Stern Pinball Is Ready to Rumble

World’s Leading Maker of Arcade-Quality Pinball Games Introduces WWE
Wrestlemania Pinball at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show

Wrestling legend Hulk Hogan to autograph Limited Edition Versions

MELROSE PARK, IL – January 5, 2015 – Stern Pinball, Inc., the world's oldest and largest producer of arcade-quality pinball games, introduced today the new WWE Wrestlemania pinball machine at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2015) in Las Vegas, Nevada. WWE Wrestlemania will be available in both Pro and Limited Edition models.

WWE Wrestlemania calls players into the ring as WWE superstars embarking on a quest to become the WWE worldwide heavyweight champion. Players train their wrestlers and then compete in a series of matches leading them on the road to Wrestlemania.

The WWE Pro and the Limited Edition machines feature an innovative upper pinball playfield wrestling ring. With the flipper buttons, players control two “Slammer” slingshot-style kickers in the ropes of the ring. Completing the three drop target bank starts a wrestling match. Players rack up points and pin opponents in the ring by shooting into a kick out hole. Keeping the ball in
the ring and hitting as many targets as possible will advance players through the match. Multiple ramps guide the ball throughout gameplay, while brilliant lightshows highlight the all LED playfield. Ten licensed songs include intro music for wrestlers that players choose. WWE announcers Jerry “the King” Lawlor and Michael Cole add play by play excitement.

Wrestling legend Hulk Hogan will individually autograph each of the numbered WWE Legends of Wrestlemania Limited Edition (LE) machines on a bottom arch mounted gold plaque. With only 400 autographs available, this collectible must be limited to that number of games. The LE game art features classic WWE stars, of course including Hulk Hogan. Actual WWE wrestling
action is projected on the LE’s replica “Titantron” playfield level 5.7 inch LCD directly above the ring. The ball is always wild when it comes into contact with the LE’s exclusive "Chaos" spinning DISC while a third “Wham! Arm” flipper allows players to knock the ball off a wire ramp.

“The WWE franchise features unique characters and fantastic action sequences that are captured in these pinball machines. "It looks like Stern is once again entering the retails space — this time with electronics giant Best Buy. In a press releases sent out today, Stern Pinball announced that they would be selling their Avatar, TRON: Legacy, The Rolling Stones (Pro and LE), and Iron Man Classic for between $3,799 (IM) to $5,999 (TRS LE).
Gary Stern adds, “Pinball is back and booming… being available through an incredible retail channel such as Best Buy brings pinball to the main stream mass market.” There’s not much doubt about that. And while this may be quite a blow to Stern’s pinball distributors, most in-the-know collectors still know where the best prices are available. The only real question is whether the financing plan of Best Buy would be enough to lure established buyers away from their Stern distributors.
The games are already up on Best Buy’s website, and will begin shipping later this year. There’s no word on whether display models will be available in store, but it seems like they’d have to be to attract the main stream mass market. It’s doubtful that the average Joe or Jane will pay full retail price for something they see on BestBuy.com and don’t have an opportunity to touch in person.
The product descriptions do state that there’s a 6 month warranty for parts (does this include the boards which only carry a typical 2 months warranty from Stern?) and a 60 day warranty for labor. Also, will Geek Squad be offering repair services? If so, we want a reality TV show of that!"

Interestingly the US MRRP went up inconsistently:
Kiss Pro versus WWE Pro - $500
Kiss Premium versus TWD Premium - $0
Kiss LE versus WWE LE - $200

Quoted from luvthatapex2:

doubt it, we only have one distributor here in Aus so prices always appear to be about $2k higher than the US MRRP prices. no competition with distributors and dealers means they set their price and thats it.

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill., Sept. 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Stern Pinball, Inc., the world's oldest and largest producer of arcade-quality pinball machines, proudly announced today the availability of Game of Thrones pinball machines. Inspired by the hit HBO® drama series, the newest Stern machines put players in the heat of battle where noble families fight for control of the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms.

Stern's Game of Thrones Pro, Premium, and Limited Edition machines are packed with features and toys that provide an irresistible challenge to play against kings, knights, knaves and dragons. Each player can choose to be a Knight of the Stark, Lannister, Greyjoy, Baratheon, Martell, or Tyrell family Houses, and pick other Houses to battle. Game of Thrones actor Rory McCann as Sandor Clegane (The Hound) guides the player throughout the game with authenticity and strong presence. The goal of the game is to rule the seven kingdoms of Westeros.

"The Game of Thrones pinball machine celebrates the much-loved HBO series and gives fans an intense, high-energy pinball experience," said Gary Stern, Chairman and CEO of Stern Pinball, Inc.

The Game of Thrones pinball machine will be available in three models offering a variety of pricing and exclusivity for Game of Thrones fans and pinball collectors. All three models feature an animated, interactive dragon that roars, flies, and breathes fire through the magic of all-LED lit playfields. Players can slam the ball into the Battering Ram, attempting to break down the Castle Doors and grab features such as Super Jackpots, Wild Fire, and Playfield Score Multipliers. The animated mechanical Sword of Multiball holds back reinforcements until it's time to attack. A bank of three Drop-Targets lights the Lord of Light Lanes to protect against side drains and awards other progressive features. A Kickback fires the ball in anger when struck.

Players can win valuable random awards and features with Reel Pops™, a fun new software mechanism, by playing the Pop Bumpers and spinning three virtual spinning reels on the display. When three identical symbols line up, the player is awarded the prize shown on the reels. Earn Gold and spend it on needed weapons and features. An Action Button is featured on the front molding for the largest array of interactive play features ever seen in a pinball machine.

The Game of Thrones Pro model includes all the above features and 7 multicolor Shield inserts that represent the great Houses of Westeros and special shots on the playfield. Lightning-fast ramps and orbits send the ball on fascinating and versatile courses throughout the game.

Enter a whole new realm with Game of Thrones Premium and Limited Edition Pinball models. Vastly different from the Pro model, both Premium and Limited Editions feature a massive and challenging Castle upper playfield with a second set of full size flippers, shots and an animated Dragon. Both models feature dazzling, full-playfield, color-changing LED's throughout the game. An Elevator serving two "floors" brings the ball up to the Castle where the players battle against Houses and Dragons. The second Elevator floor delivers the ball to the Iron Throne, where victories great and small can be celebrated. Amazing light shows and effects are a visual celebration of players' victories.

The Limited Edition model delivers all the play features of the Premium model, while also featuring a Certificate of Authenticity, a numbered plaque, a designer-autographed playfield, a beautiful, hand-drawn cabinet and backglass artwork by Bob Stevlic. Exclusive, glossy, black-powder-coated, laser-cut side armor features dragon elements of the Targaryen Sigil and is inscribed with the Targaryen House motto, "Fire & Blood", all highlighted with a rich, red mirrored backing.

Pricing and Availability:

Pro Model: $5,995 MSRP
Premium Model:$7,595 MSRP
Limited Edition Model:$8,795 MSRP
Game of Thrones Pinball is available through authorized Stern Pinball distributors and dealers around the world.

13-11-15 (bad luck Friday)

Note the dollar value today is against us at $1 USD = $1.40 AUD

Aussie bubble may have just burst as some quiet price rises across all games in stock by our Aussie Distributor - AMD.

GAME OF THRONES PRO PINBALL - $8150.00
GAME OF THRONES PREMIUM PINBALL - $10,650.00
GAME OF THRONES LIMITED EDITION PINBALL - $12,350.00

Apparently some keen potential Kiss Premium buyers pulled the pin on orders due to a $400 price rise

Sorry Stern but soon you will have a much smaller market to sell to, god knows what will happen when you switch to a lcd screen rumored in Feb 2016.

#29 8 years ago

I miss the $5950 AC/DC Pro sweet spot back in 2012. I just can't afford new in box at these prices. Stern Pro machines are now $2200 more expensive.

#30 8 years ago

Wow. Not sure how any of you Aussies can justify those prices. Hard enough for me to justify the US prices. Bummer

Currently, it's avoid purchasing games on release until they have proven themselves code wise and hope to pick them up cheaper on the secondhand market....which is now harder because not as many people are buying games for them to make it to the secondhand market. This week, a Walking Dead Pro went up for sale in the morning secondhand and was marked sold by lunch time.

5th January - Spiderman VE released as a comic art version with new dots etc
http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/01/04/ultimate-spider-man-themed-pinball-machine-announced-by-stern
US Suggested Retail Price is $7595 USD

and AMD's release price is $10650 AUD
Note the dollar value today is against us at $1 USD = $1.39 AUD

- wonder if Stern are preparing people price wise for a lcd for Ghostbusters rumoured to be released soon.
- but you have to wonder when will it hit a point that companies start to bail out due to a drop in sales.

I'm looking at these prices and, wow, Stern's aggressive price increase structure is kind of disheartening. Just four short years ago they had Pro games priced a few hundred dollars below $5K. Now those MSRPs are $5 away from $6,000.

Punch those numbers into a CPI calculator and the numbers don't even come close to adding up.

Sterns trumpets itself as holding the torch of pinball...keeping it lit...but is this the way they should be repaying the customers that paid to play for the games built during the lean years? Doesn't seem like it to me.

#34 8 years ago

If you search through RGP you can often find threads about old MSRPs, although it's not exactly a primary source. For example this says TSPP was $4599 as of a 2008 episode of Price is Right. Better than nothing info out there anyway

Not condoning or condemning stern. Tspp had an msrp of 4295 I think in 2003. Compound that over 13 years at 2% and you are close to 5600, not too far off from where they are now.

Yeah but isn't TSPP more like a current Premium title feature-wise? If made today, the $5600 version would probably be a Pro (probably with no couch upper playfield, standups instead of drops by Itchy & Scratchy, etc).

Edit: Not trying to sound negative. I don't think there's any denying that their prices have gone up for "the same" feature set (though that's hard to compare across games). But they do make good games, and the market is bearing it. Supply and demand, I guess. Would I like them to be cheaper? Certainly. But I can understand why they aren't. Like any business...you charge what you can get away with before too many people stop buying.

#37 8 years ago

Wonder why there was a drop in pro baseline price for met. Met is where I jumped on the pinball bandwagon. So I'm relatively new. I had just assumed it was a steady increase in price.

#38 8 years ago

The prices starting jumping up once WOZ was released as I am guessing they thought they may as well rise prices but still stay under the competitors?

You are correct. When Stern saw that their only competition was putting out a game that costs twice as much to make, but was half the fun, they knew they could go up more. Not to mention that 100's were lining up to pay for something they had to wait 3 years for. When astern comes out with the LCD, it is all over, they will be at JJP retails, $9500 for an LE.

Are you being hyperbolic here? (Honest question). I find Woz to be plenty of fun. Is it 2x fun? I don't know, but its a solid game for sure.

Swinks, thanks for the enlightening post. Informative, useful, and a good read. We need more content like this on pinside.

Great thread. Thanks for doing the legwork on recording the prices. Here they are in chart form;

nice work on the chart, only thing it needs is because the thread is based on the original release MSRP we can maybe colour the columns in for the years to add the time frame in there.

street price grid would be cool also.

thats a different beast altogether as every street and country has different prices so opted to track launch msrp's though would be good to track other companiers launch msrp as a form of comparison

Yea, pricing and features do not go hand in hand. Since 2011 MET had the lowest MSRP yet also has the most toys.
