Your Ripley's has the WhiteStar (modified) MPU that has the Atmel microprocessor on it vs BSMT2000.
You can try flashing the sound operating system to OS/8. It's cheap, and worth a shot.
You can verify each of the sound ROMs. WhiteStar doesn't validate the sound ROMs.
After that, the options are few. Most issues come down to the CPLD (contains Stern code) which is hard to replace and must be done by Stern.

Educate me. I thought PinSound could run the stock ROMs in addition to custom formulations.
