I see a lot of red LED DMDs on the used market where people are upgrading their Stern SAM games to ColorDMD. Did Vishay also make an amber LED version? I think they exist but I haven't seen any come up.

A friend gave me an orange ACDC LED display with a red gel filter to go in front of it and I am sure it was marked Stern as the manufacturer.

    Vishay product LEE128G0320001E90.

Mouser Electronics has two of them in stock. IMHO: outrageous price.

Interesting. I've bought 3 red versions that also come with red filters. Maybe the filter is to improve the contrast ratio.

I do believe so. Likely also to hide the grid lines.

Some of the Vishay's had 4096 distinct, surface mount LEDs - part number LEE128G032-1. These did not have grid lines.
And some of the Vishay's used LED arrays - part number LEE128G032B-1. These did have grid lines between the modules.

If I remember correctly the 4096 discrete LED version cost considerably more than the LED array version.

I remember reading about those differences in the Sega 192x64 displays on their site. They justify the extremely high cost of the gridline-less panels by stating the failure or defect of a single LED requires trashing the entire panel. Far from practical or economical.
