Edit: I have not read anything on this thread, so have no idea what the consensus on this game is.

I played this game last night for a few hours. I will reserve judgement on the premium/Le because not having the projector completely changes the game, I would imagine. Without the projector, you get a static image on a big billboard that takes up a ton of space. Not a big problem if it was located in the back of the playfield, but it is in the middle. The code so far is everything I would expect from Sterns worst programmer. Code is horrible at this point.
The main objective is to knock down the drops in front of the Demi-Gorgonzola. (Pun intended because the main toy is cheesy.) Flipping at full strength will get you SDTM. You must cradle and then flick the flippers with weak shots. Once the drive in theater moves and you get that ramp as big as Eric Greggs ass/strikezone (google it), you must shoot your ass beads into the anus of whatever thing that is.

Here is how it should have gone down. The pro gets the premium treatment of whatever that projector thing is. The premium/LE gets an upgrade to the Gorgonzola. That things gaping anus stays shut until you bash it a number of times. Each time you bash it, it shakes/rattles. Eventually, it’s initially closed mouth opens. Then you you shoot your balls into it’s mouth for the win. In other words, Stern cheapened out again on the mechs to save 100 bucks. Do yourself a favor and get Jurassic Park, which is great, or else wait for the next one.

Yep. Wait until code is complete and then pick up a NIB a couple years after it comes out if they nail it. That’s what I did with TWD premium. By the time I got my NIB second run, code was complete and all the playfield issues that plagued the LEs had been worked out at the factory.

For every really good coded Stern, there are 2 or 3 stinkers like Black Knight or Munsters. Did they ever fix Munsters code? Or is it still that abysmal, stack jackpots and try to cash in later nonsense? Boy that game is just a hot mess of suckage. I wouldn’t hold out much hope for good code on Stranger Things with Lonnie in charge.

Dwight has said that there is no intention of revisiting the code but i wouldn't put it past him once he gets a little free time in his schedule. The game is such a good shooter with a stunning art package. It would be nice if they came back to it and made things a little deeper.

Too bad. Another reason not to buy early. No incentive to fix the code. If Dwight and Stern think that Munsters code is acceptable than they are as delusional as the owners who claim to love it. The pro is a good shooter, and the premium art looks great. But that cheesy kB toys lower playfield was an epic fail.

I was a big fan of the show growing up. I was hoping for a fun pin to play. I was disappointed, and am not going to sugar coat it. One thing absolutely necessary to make a good lower playfield. It must feel like a part of the rest of the machine. That is, the ball must travel between playfields. None of this isolated system crap. This is why AC/DC and Congo lowers don’t work. The parts must be of similar quality. These kB toys kiddie type flippers and pachinko ball don’t belong in a commercial grade $8k machine. The physics don’t scale. This is why FG Stevie playfield sucks as well. The pro sucks because of awful code and the prem/LE sucks because of awful code and awful lower playfield. This is objectively true.

That left side saucer shot always seems to bounce out. Poor design. A scoop would have been a much better choice. Unfortunately that would have added a buck twenty to the BOM. Can’t have that on a $9k machine can we.

Munsters started out pretty good. It wasn’t until people realized the garbage code it was released with was essentially complete, that things went downhill. That and the Toys R Us lower playfield kiddie toy (pachinko ball included) abomination.

TWD premium is the greatest pin ever, and the biggest reason for that is its masterful code. I hope you will be working on cornerstone Stern games again in the future.

If you’re tall like me, the mutant artichoke isn’t even hidden by the billboard. You see it just sitting behind there waiting for the billboard to move out of the way so you can put your balls in his mouth. He never reacts to any of this, so I assume he’s ok with my balls in his mouth.

Oh well, better luck next time. Hint: if you want a game to have staying power, make the main toy actually move. Start with an artichoke vag that actually opens and closes or at least moves from side to side. Why can JP2 get a T-Rex that does it, but Stranger Things can’t?

Wouldn’t surprise me at all if Eddy had a MM castle level interactive demigorgon toy in mind before Gary walked by and said to scrap it and go with the static artichoke vag. “It will save the investors $30.”

Similar to the center ramp on Iron Maiden LE, the T Rex mouth on Jurassic Park LE, etc. Fortunately, the code seems smart enough to realize when the Telekinesis shot doesn't capture, and you still get awarded the locked ball as long as the ramp mechanism doesn't block your shot entirely.

The Star Wars hyper loop shot never worked right in the 4 or 5 prem/Le games I played on location. Frustrating to get all those rejections when you’re trying to load balls into it.

I have no problem with plastic ramps if they look good and feel right. I would like them to be sturdy enough not to crack when an air ball hits them or when some dummy tightens the screws down on them slightly too much.

But there is no excuse for that artichoke vagina.

Later build premiums seem to have much less issues than LE and early premiums. This goes for pretty much all the titles. My Later build TWD premium had few problems out of the box, but those LE’s were a mess.

Unfortunately, location games are disproportionately early builds.

I think the overall game itself gets played and tested a bunch internally, but the individual games getting boxed need a little more attention in my opinion.

If they played or tested the games coming off the line, occasionally during testing there would be a dimple or two on the playfield. Imagine people getting their NIB and opening it up for the first time to see a few dimples on the playfield. Pinside would implode.

If this game was made 5 years ago, the Le and premium would have included this uv feature as well as a moving demogorgon with mouth that opens and shuts as standard. Maybe in a few months Stern will sell an upgraded version of the demogorgon that doesn’t suck so bad as the artichoke vagina.
