Quoted from jcg9998:

I am by no means a hater, I root for all pinball games, but the silence in here is deafening (at least as far as positive posts go). I was expecting a much bigger reaction. Of course, it is almost Christmas so that can be a factor.
I have to believe if you are a fan of Stern games, that you are at least somewhat disappointed in this release. I know that most people were expecting a lot more out of Brian Eddy. We will probably never know what restraints he faced, how much the license cost, etc.

Well, things I liked about the game:

1. Drop targets on a pro.
2. I like the idea of the drop targets leading to falling center ramp (or something like that).
3. The game looks very flowy and fast but fair. Looked really fun to shoot.
4. Lots of modes, multiballs, and 3 mini-wizard modes is pretty cool.
5. It's a good looking machine.

Always tough to judge a game by a stream though. The few people who have played it on location say is fun to shoot -- so that's a good sign at least.

Quoted from iceman44:

Too many people roll right on past problem free JP and Elvira. Maybe a few little issues. But Pooling and chipping is NOT a thing 3 games ago
STH is having Demo issues. Sucks. Shit happens on an $8600 game. It doesn’t make me not want to buy it. Of course I’d rather it didn’t happen
Best thing to do is put nothing in a game and sell the theme and “personality”. Boom problem solved. Maybe that’s why they did that with Bricks. It was a genius move with that theme. It basically defines a large chunk of pinheads
The truth is that so many people that complain they are never buying these games again actually do and will. You can’t help it. I’ve said the same thing many times before as well. Don’t like STH pffft. Who cares. I don’t.
TMNT or some other theme people love by Stern will sell huge again. The numbers and facts just prove it year after year. They make fun games.
That’s why I buy pinball games, to play and have fun. With STH, that fun factor will include my family. “Boring”, it’s just the show! Just because it not a curse fest with crude humor Like Bricks does not make it boring. Lol
I’m a fan of Bricks too. Looks like fun. I won’t be buying TMNT either to own

I wonder how long Scott Danesi will bother posting here when we have guys like iceman calling his layout bricks. It's such an awesome joke though! At least Iceman has picked his tribe. Anyway, I get that your irritated by negative stuff being spewed at Stranger Things, but your little joke just makes you the opposite side of the same coin.

I think Stranger Things looks cool by the way, especially the moody atmosphere. I also like the idea of the demogorgon shot, I'm pretty sure Stern will work out the nagging issues in the end.

This has been quite the welcome back to pinball experience for Brian Eddy.

Quoted from flynnibus:

Just hope that when stern does go digital... that they attach purchases to the machine... not the user. Imagine not being able to sell all the upgrades you bought for your games....

Stern really does have to tread lightly with messing with the resale value of machines (and I think they know this). I'm fine with the pinball hobby as an obscene luxury item if I can recoup a decent percentage of the money back eventually (actually it's the only way I can rationalize this hobby), but if it suddenly becomes a complicated mess to resell machines or the resale value starts tanking it becomes impossible to justify.

I guess they just go back to mainly selling to operators?

Quoted from E_Gpinball:

I don't have an issue with the argument that the UV lights should have been included to enhance the value of the base game, but I do take issue with those who say things like,
"Stern is ripping us off..."
"This was originally planned to be included, but they pulled it to charge us extra..."
It doesn't matter if it was originally planned to be a standard feature or an addon. At the end of the day, you knew what you were getting when you bought the game, at that point you decided that the game with its included features was worth the amount they charged. You now have an option to buy an addon and you can decide whether or not it is worth the asking price. If you like it, buy it. If not, then pass. It really isn't something to grab your torches and pitchforks over.

I totally get what you're saying and for the most part agree, but:

A counter to this is that I believe a lot of people thought the upside down mode would get more work in future code updates because it was kind of underwhelming currently (a fact sort of acknowledged by Stern releasing this upgrade)-- now there is an improvement but it cost $300. I'm sure people are worried that the non-UV upside down might now get a short shrift too.

Also, speculation on what Stern would do for the upside down was one of the main talking points of the pin, if I recall right -- so it is an important part of the theme integration for people.

I don't think Stern is trying to rip people off here and I bet there's a story behind this, er, unique, upgrade but I get the emotional response from people with skin in the game.

I find it kind of odd that people keep mocking the "buy buy buy!" thing that Zach does when it's actually from his pinball market place bit involving good deals on used machines not NIB pins (I'm pretty sure at least). Just such an weird thing to mock when talking about price gouging by manufacturers.
