Quoted from wolfemaaan:

Which 18-29 year olds have $8K laying around in disposable income to buy pins?

It's been well established now over multiple licenses that "fans" don't buy pinball machines. Pinheads buy pinball machines AND they also have to be fans of the show.

I think there are a lot of pinheads that are fans of Stranger Things though so it's a strong license.

This seems odd that they'd release a title officially while people are off work, or going on vacation very shortly. And who is working at Stern right now?

CES is January 7th, so I wonder if this will be held until after the new year.

Quoted from Whysnow:

I thought they have had similar timing before around July 4th, labor day, memorial day?
Seems perfect to have people talking about your game over the extended week. I actually love it.
Give more content each day like presents.
I hope we get some more R&M content also this week.

I know *we* would love it, but I'm just thinking about the logistics of who has to be WORKING to announce something. Ie: distributors need to be taking orders, answering phones/emails. People at Stern need to be available to support their distributors.

I could be wrong, and all of these people want to work over Christmas.

Quoted from kermit24:

You think Stern is closed for the week? Nope. They’ll be closed Christmas Day. That’s it.

Fair enough. That answers my question. Sucks to be them.

Quoted from Stevemoerke:

1. Ball motion activated and sculpted Demogorgon that players can shoot up Hawkins Laboratory Ramp and into its mouth.....
2. Hawkins Laboratory Transforming ramp, leading to direct battle with Demogorgon

"ball motion activated" to me = bobble head (ala Tie Fighter), where on the premium/le it says "power actuated".

Hawkins Lab ramp is the static replacement for the drive in movie screen that the projector uses.

Shipping games to the first buyers the same day the game is officially announced is a boss move, no question.

Quoted from kermit24:

I don't understand why some people have to turn this into a Playstation vs Xbox style fanboy talk like my 10 year old. It's ok to like both, or not like them at all.

Same reason you see pump or dump reviews in the charts, based on what people own. Or why Pro owners will say the Pro is the best version of the game Vs the Premium/LE. There is some very strong psychological forces at play about what you own and the need to defend that choice in your head (and then publicly). Not everyone, but obviously enough people that we see it come up with every game.

It just is what it is.

#2510 4 years ago

I agree with some of the earlier posts that this game is all about the projector and the Premium/LE experience. This is a ground breaking game.

It would be like a Pinball 2000 pro model coming out missing the top monitor and having no playfield graphics.

Quoted from BeeGeeMtl:

and the projector would project...what? The same stuff as on the screen (that I rarely ever look at).

Well, I think that's exactly it, the projector projects at the playfield which you ARE looking at.

Quoted from MapleSyrup:

Temper your expectations!! There is NO WAY the projection is going to look good on a stream. It will simply not read well due to the limits of web cams, cell phones, etc etc.

If only they could show the projector for first stream through the most experienced streamer in the business, with the best equipment to capture it, in a controlled room that was set up before hand. I would hope it's not a cell phone capture we see first.

#4011 4 years ago

Showed up at wired.com.

Hint: The projector doesn't work well with spot lights.

Quoted from valgalder:

Very awkward. I'm pretty sure Jack flew out with all his streaming equipment, so they must have made the decision not to due it because of the inability to capture the footage well..

oh my gosh, Stern flew Jack out to Vegas so we could watch him eat?

This is disappointing.

And if it's all because it can't be video recorded properly, then Stern should have gotten ahead of that with Jack Danger. But right now we're just left with C-Net and they aren't exactly a cell phone video.

#4418 4 years ago

This is the ballsiest risk Stern has done in a while. No competitor had a projector first. I do hope it's better in person and they were successful with it.

I'm just bummed that it doesn't demo well, to the point of Gary asking people not to record it.
