This could very well be my next NIB if it’s my kind of layout and code.

Quoted from pinmister:Will they incorporate the upside down?
I sure hope so! I originally thought a black hole or haunted house like lower playfield but that sacrifices too much of the main level of the game.
I say get VERY creative with artwork and lighting and diverters to create the upside down. Transform the entire game when you’re in it.
The more I think about it, the more I don’t want a lower playfield. Even if they did it like Krull (which they won’t).
When has a game used artwork and crazy lighting to transform the game? I don’t think it ever has been done.
Quoted from PinRush72:Go dark mode in upside down with projection similar to blackout mod in ST except have the lasers white to look like the Upside down snow/ash or whatever that is.
I was thinking this exact same thing the other night. That could look sweet.
Quoted from mbrave77:Im not a huge fan of magnets but would probably fit in this one
If there are magnets hopefully they are no where near the flippers.
Quoted from pinmister:I keep thinking the Christmas lights will be the inserts running up the playfield and you have to make certain shots to advance message up the chain of lights in order to communicate with the other side?
They could use the backboard. That would be sweet.
Quoted from pinmister:I am sure Eleven will be somewhere on the playfield and magnets will be present? I also thought Star Wars was going to have magnets on the playfield for Darth Vader to use his force-but I was wrong on that one.
A shadow esque magnet would be cool to accent some shots in the back of the playfield.
Quoted from pinmister:The only way it would be cool is if it was done Krull style
Have you played Krull? The lower playfield feature is awful. Good way to shrink a full sized playfield though.
I like the idea of using the assets around the games story, but have the game tell it’s own story. Don’t try and follow the seasons. Use some iconic music and lines for callouts but have the game do it’s own thing.
Would be cool to have kids get lost in the upside down if you’re playing poorly or fail modes and then you have to rescue them in various ways. Each party member has an ability that as long as they are not stuck in the upside down, you benefit from their ability.
Lots of ways to go with it. Excited to see it.
Quoted from usandthem:Pinball manufacturers love you guys with your plastic/metal ramp (or similar) arguments. You give $100's to $1000's of additional value to things that are 1/10 or less of that to manufacture.
What are you most excited about related to a potential Stranger Things game?
Player controlled magna slings bad. Player controlled magnets like on Oktoberfest good. Haha
Mini playfield like simpsons or TBL or one of the WOZ playfields. Not both.
If the upper playfield is a quick couple of shots and doesn’t stay there long, that’s cool. But please nothing like black knight. Makes the game take forever.
Quoted from pinmister:Might be interesting if they placed pop bumper/s in the lower section of playfield, not as crazy as Cyclops but maybe something like TZ? Tired of pops that bounce ball around up top-only to exit out into lane.
Always loved andromeda’s pop down by the flipper.
Quoted from CrazyLevi:No love for Satin Doll?!
OR Stellar Wars!
Or Pat Hand?!? Haha. Never played a stellar wars believe it or not. All I know is the other Williams widebodies suck except for Algar!
Quoted from Tsskinne:Someone, please tell me this isn't it?
This isn’t it. This is my buddy Pete’s home brew.
Quoted from chad:Will Stern throw a curve ball ala Primus type game.??
It’s definitely not that.
Yeah if they take a similar approach to ST that they did with JP I won’t be mad about it. Just be true to the series. Would be cool if they did lots of custom animations. Maybe have some of the important songs from the seasons. They seemed to get songs for guardians pretty easily. Would be nice to have some of those in here too.
Can’t wait to see how they simulate the upside down.
An interactive demogorgon would be sweet too and I’m not a bash toy fan at all.
Quoted from pinballwil:hope Stern not cut the bom.
Stern will always do this. Just how they do business. Designer tries to put all they can in it, then they cut stuff back until it meets the BOM stern sets. Best to accept it and move on.
If it’s more of a fan layout, I’d love for ramp diverters again. Those are so cool. Bring back the shadow lock magnet too. Blew my mind the first time I saw it.
The number one thing id love to see but doubt they do, is somehow have the artwork morph with the lightning when you are in the upside down. Not even sure that would be possible.
Show us already!! Haha
Quoted from Pinballer67:I wonder if they throw this on the back burner/delay...and release Lez Zeppelin QS redux as a kind of "sacrificial lamb" to fill the release void after Rick and Morty.
Nope. The initial ST pros are already built and will be on location before Xmas.
Quoted from Pinballer67:I just can't help but think Rick & Morty being released took a little wind out of the Stern sails for the ST release.
Possibly took a buyer or two away from stern but remember, everyone that got a Rick and Morty locked in yesterday only paid 1525 max. Most in this hobby can then turn around and get a stern the next day no problem.
Quoted from PINQUEST:last reveal via IGN was a Wednesday at 8:00MST for Elvira. Prior was JP on a Friday at 9:00MST
If not today, I say before Friday this week.
Not too worried about the art. It’s super low on my priority list, and I can see the license dictating that big time.
Just give me that third flipper and I’ll be very excited right away. Haha
Quoted from tjc02002:Just curious what kind of information leads you to believe Stern sells 10,000 games per year. I have no idea and im not questioning it, im just curious how you arrive at that number. that would mean they pump out almost 30 per day which is impressive and I know their facility is impressive.
When I took a tour they said they make 50 a day on average but we’re running some days in 2019 at 75 plus a day. They have capacity for over 100 a day. 10k machines might be on the lower end. Not sure.
Quoted from u2sean:Grand Champ default initials better be MADMAX. And a little homage somewhere in the game to Dig Dug and Dragon's Lair would be nice too. Looking forward to a reveal!
With Dustin close behind.
Quoted from nogoodnames222:I've been out of the loop due to, uhh, other game announcements. But is ST actually confirmed (or "confirmed" in any kind of way past speculation), and is Brian Eddy gonna be on it? Really excited for this one. If there really is a webinar tomorrow it looks like I'm tuning back in at the right time.
Brian Eddy
Lonnie
Rest of the details are unknown. Should be on location by Xmas eve.
Quoted from delt31:Is lower confirmed? I hope not.
100% confirmed there ISN'T a lower playfield.
I’m so obsessed with this theme I know it won’t have everything I want in it. I just hope the code keeps me interested for the long haul. That’s kind of a tall order for me, but one can dream.
Oh and did I mention I need this to have a third flipper? Haha
Quoted from manadams:[quoted image]
Haha. I love them. And pretty sure they are standard now on new sterns.
Wonder how they will use it? Maybe if you’re playing as EL it operates her powers?
Quoted from Tsskinne:You, sir, are setting your hopes too high.
Haha. Okay then it will be a 3 musketeers smart bomb to keep dart at bay.
Quoted from Tsskinne:Probably the show soundtrack, but not the licensed music from the show
While not a huge deal to me at all, they were able to secure plenty of songs with Guardians. So i have faith here.
Quoted from bgwilly31:Pretty sure old chuck Was quoted before the JP Release. 100% Confirmed not Jurrasic Park.
Im just saying.....
Show me where I said that.
PS. My hunches are never wrong. Only misunderstood.
Quoted from HookedonPinonics:To be honest all I want for music is the original Stranger Things music that Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein did for the show. Every single one of their tracks is awesome. I don't care for the licensed music like "should I stay or should I go" or "time after time". I have heard enough of that stuff. Give me the synth stuff that those guys did for the show. For those not familiar go on Spotify and look up Stranger Things Volume 1. Notable tracks of what I want
Stranger Things Main Theme
Kids
A Kiss
The Upside Down
This is the ambiance I want when I play this game. Not sure why people want licensed music that we have heard a million times already.
All is want is this.
119384C5-18D9-4F8B-BB63-5F92C202A49B.gifSeason 4 already confirmed and that may be the final one. Whatever they decide it will go as long as they want it to. Show is amazing. All three seasons.
Quoted from Goronic:I hope you are wrong - but I think you are probably right.
Stern and theme integration using assets hasn't been all that great in my opinion...
Has anyone ever seen a game with amazing theme and asset integration from a big time license?
Hobbit is the only game I’ve seen that is really well done in that department. LOTR might be the best one before that.
So that’s why I’m totally fine with the JP approach and if they continued to advance their games in that direction.
Quoted from luvthatapex2:TRON has great theme integration. I feel like I jumped into the movie and I'm on the lightcycles.
Seriously?? Haha that’s one of the best games ever and it’s not because of theme and asset use.
Quoted from delt31:Alien Alien and Alien. Rivals Hobbit, which does it really well but i prefer the Alien universe.
I know no ridley but they nailed it.
Yeah definitely a good one. They need to get someone to make a ton of those in a normal cabinet.
Quoted from Goronic:Spooky did it with R&M it looks like!
Yeah solely from the custom callouts from the characters of the show. Very strong start.
But.........
STRANGER THINGS!!!!
EA12F9E2-71DF-4D4B-B5E7-35B116105E34.gifQuoted from delt31:going to say the same. Stern rarely uses drops now so good to see. 3 ramps on the pro is nice - I'm trying to convince myself pro is good enough! I mean - who needs 4 ramps! haha
and hand drawn art. Thank god.
Three ramps also lends to a third flipper. Yes!
Quoted from Rondogg:what is "another" interactive upside down ramp? Was there a first?
Maybe there’s one in the pro, multiple in the Prem/LE
Quoted from HookedonPinonics:Cant wait! I'm guessing the ramp would be a flap that opens up and the hologram will project the gate.
That would be badass.
Quoted from Goronic:Easy guys, easy! Please temper your expectations!
Too late. I’ve been freaking out about this since Saturday. Seriously going to be the least productive person on earth until the reveal.
Quoted from HookedonPinonics:Yeah being in a billable hours industry
Same. CPA here. I’m doing trainings tomorrow so more of the same!
What’s the last game to have 4 ramps?
So Jurassic park has 4, so before that?
Demoman count if you use the center acmag ramp.
Fastbreak has four if you count the left orbit ramp.
Quoted from Yoko2una:Kind of a tough question because what defines a full ramp? I think of TSPP and it has the right ramp, treehouse ramp, couch ramp, and monorail “ramp”. Then I think of all the Sterns with the crossover ramp. How many does WH2O technically have? RBION? HRC? Do shooter lane ramps count? Jump ramps? Once you define what a ramp is or isn’t, does JP2 still have 4 ramps?
Wow. Haha. JP2 definitely four ramps. Have to shoot it from the flippers and it has to go from one portion of the playfield to the other. ACDC and Simpson crossing rail doesn’t count. Diverters don’t make one ramp two, etc.
WH20 has 4. 2 lower of and two upper playfield.
Quoted from ryanbrooks:Am I the only one still waiting on his MMr and thinking it’s shitty of Stern to basically stop production of them so they can get ST built and shipped before the EOY as to be dicks to Spooky?
What on earth does this even mean? Haha
Quoted from Rockytop:Am I the only own waiting on a spicy chicken sandwich because Stern's stopped making them to focus on buying all the pizza in Benton?
No kidding. Totaly unfair that stern swooped in and started serving deep dish pizza to Benton residents right after they had lunch with spooky.
Quoted from Yoko2una:I do agree with the idea that JP2 has 4 ramps, even with 3 exit points. But could even the shooter lane “jump” to the Hellipad 180 ramp also count as a ramp? Does the shooter lane wireform add a ramp to WH2O?
No. WH20 whirlpool is debatable. I can see it either way.
Here’s a fun one. Without looking it up. How many ramps does WOZ have?
Quoted from ryanbrooks:The excuse given to my distributor from CGC as to the ETA of a MMr ordered in May was “waiting on Stern to finish”.
Key word there. EXCUSE.
Here’s another question. If the game does indeed have 4 ramps, is it possible for it to only use 2 flippers?
If so, it will be the fanniest fan layout ever I guess.
Quoted from bobukcat:Just proves the point that lots of ramps does not equate to a good game.
Haha. Monopoly is a fine game just suffers greatly from a very boring wood choppy rule set.
Quoted from bobukcat:Damn, chuckwurt you are in full-on super hyped mode for this one. I hope the trough of disillusionment isn't too extreme when the reveal actually happens.
My whole house including the dogs are obsessed with this show. Haha
Quoted from bgwilly31:BTW i had a thought. If they use lighting to represent the upside down.
You know those holiday spot lights that project spots in different shapes all over your house.
What if they had something like that in the game to represent the "Ash" Thats always falling in the upside down across the playfield. That would be cool. Kind of like the disco ball in deadpool.
I was thinking the same thing. Good call.
Quoted from TheLaw:Bah I hope it's not the same old rules.
Did you read the rest of it?? Haha.
Quoted from cooked71:Just sounds like a "best of pinball" list to feed the hype train. 40+ modes?? Seriously doubt it - whats the most modes in a Stern game? B66? and that doesn't even come close to 40.
ive been around here long enough to know that people are way too negative. Just wait to see it first then starting shitting on it. That’s all I ask.
Quoted from cooked71:Just shitting on the hype
Why? Isn’t more fun to be excited about a game?
Quoted from TheLaw:Well as Kramer would say there are levels.
You know a lot of people here start having their fantasies aboot what a game will have early, and then get all butt hurt when the game doesn't live up to their weirdo ideas.
I’m 100% positive this won’t live up to my expectations. Doesn’t make me any less excited and won’t make me want to play it any less. Pinball is ALWAYS fun. Don’t like a game? Move on. Like a game? Enjoy it.
Quoted from cait001:like Kiss LE/Prem, I guess?
I assumed so. I’ve still never seen the KISS premium in action to see this feature.
Quoted from jandrea95:you.... cant follow..... stranger things?
Someone can’t follow ST? Don’t watch GOT them. Haha
Quoted from cscmtp:if you guys are smart you will all hide your excitement and stop with the take my money crap or Gary will see this and increase the price on us AGAIN.
Worth it.
67D8CF8A-1F10-4BCD-861E-31C9147FC6CA.gifQuoted from cscmtp:I'm not sure it is Dr. RosenPenis
Come on old man, embrace the awesome! Get 5 LEs and put them in every room of the house!!
Quoted from DruTheFu:This projector on ST sounds awfully familiar....
Seriously? It’s nothing like the ecto goggles. Haha
Quoted from flynnibus:He's talking about expectations vs reality... not mechs being similar
I beg to differ. Haha
Quoted from flynnibus:Do you all really think it's going to be anything more than this?
No. And that’s going to be awesome.
Quoted from flynnibus:I'm thinking more 'snow effect' than 'changing art'
Works for me.
Quoted from Who-Dey:I'm really excited about this game because it's an awesome theme but man is it realistically going to be able to live up to JP2? Unfortunately I highly doubt it.
Kinda hard to make the best game ever every time you make a game. Agree?
Quoted from titanpenguin:Really hoping for all those waiting for this pin that stern pulls through with a hit. I blew my load on R&M.
Quoted from mbrave77:im really hoping I dont have to wait long for a premium.... Does stern always pump out PROs first?
Yes. Then LEs then pros and premiums.
I just like that they are trying new things. Whether this works or not, super basic or not, it’s awesome they are doing stuff like this.
Quoted from rai:Why is this post even here on JP? Plenty of pins with upper flippers without this post?[quoted image]
Why are you posting about JP in the Stranger Things thread!!!!!!?!?!?!?
Quoted from billsfanmd:Is there a reveal today? Thought it was next week.
No reveal today it looks like.
Quoted from Tsskinne:Hasn't he already had multiple wrong predictions this week?
Sounds about right. Haha
Quoted from TheCnyPinGuy:So ... did anything come out of Dead Flips Visit to Stern Today ??
Never saw a follow up
It was today not that day ... again :-/
Meeting I’m sure and he came back with JP beta code.
Quoted from Tsskinne:If there isn’t a mode where you search for Barb is it even Stranger Things?
Well if 50 modes they are going to have to dig down and have a shift change at the pool mode.
Quoted from timtim:. He had me checking this thread all last night
My work is done here.
Quoted from NoQuarters:Maybe the Pro model will be more conventional... I would like to know what the Pro looks like.
It’s the same thing but the projector screen isn’t white it has a picture of the lab on it.
Quoted from NoQuarters:Is the "demigorgan" the thing that looks like a plant vagina that you shoot the balls into when the movie screen flops down and turns into a ramp
Yes. They are the foot soldiers of the super monster that is called the Mind Flayer.
Quoted from pinmister:Wondering why they would put a big blank screen in pro if there is no projector?
Is there a blank screen with printed art?
Everything is the same. But instead of a white screen it’s artwork printed on it.
Quoted from delt31:So you're saying the pro is the same as far as physical items but instead of white it's printed art?
Haha. Yes. But it won’t have the El magnets and not sure what else they dropped from it. Maybe no spinner? Haha
Quoted from PunkPin:Probably just be the alphabet wall on the pro
It’s a picture of the lab.
Quoted from pinmister:Would be cool to make an alternate color changing LED background translight with Mind Flayer as background. Also thinking a Polk Sub will make the sounds on this machine come to life.[quoted image]
Mind Flayer LE?? Whoa baby. Not confirming, just saying that would be sweet.
Quoted from usandthem:Yes, and if I recall (haven't seen season 1 since it came out), wasn't there a monster behind the wall at the Byers house?
Yes. In the upside down will was staying by his house and from time to time he would be able to see his mom through a gate that would open in the wall of their living room. And the demogorgon was able to get into their house that way too.
One thing they don’t explain too well in the show is how other gates open up besides the main one at the lab. Seems random.
Quoted from T3quila:How long are Stern production runs typically, let's say I would like to buy this next Xmas not this, would that be still in production?
Absolutely. Should have at least 2 years to still buy NIB
Quoted from docquest:So we could assume the standups, spinner, ramps etc would all get full color art as well instead of the white?
Not sure. I would assume the spinner and targets will have art. Maybe the ramps are just typical ramps.
Quoted from docquest:For pro, does it still have the side walls along the center screen? They don't seem to move on the Prem/LE, just more space to project on so not sure why you'd want them on pro.
They appear to be there on the pro. The picture of the lab would look weird if they weren’t and also it would be easier to do that for stern as it’s the exact same mech. Just put art on one and leave it white on the other.
I know stern tests the hell out of their major mechs. Like when I was in there this year, they said they’ve been running the dragon from GOT non stop 24/7 since the game came out and it just died this summer. Haha.
I bet they have this projector setup and running constantly to get an idea of life span.
Don’t worry when it comes out I’ll be hanging out in the club thread and let the bashing take over here. Haha.
But yeah, I’m pumped.
Quoted from NoQuarters:Excellent. Thanks for answering questions. I don't know squat about Stranger Things. Never seen it so I guess that's why I am really out of the loop on this on this game and what it's all about.
Well I think just like Rick and Morty this will only get more people to watch the show. It’s not like GOT where it’s a major commitment. You can binge all three seasons in a weekend.
Quoted from usandthem:What's all of this talk about just pros being on location? I must be lucky because the the locations that I go to always has the new premiums or LE's. Pinball Pete's in Ann Arbor always has the newest game in LE form, which is just awesome. Marvin's in Farmington Hills has a mix of LE's, premiums, and pros.
This is not common at all. Haha
Quoted from LOTR_breath:You are correct sir! I've never seen an episode. I have the first season on the way on Blu-ray.
Hopefully we can geek out on this like we do on GOT!
Quoted from Sinistarrett:Sounds like maybe custom speech/ callouts from Hopper in that video?
Me and bobukcat were talking about that. It’s either him or a voice actor that’s supposed to be him. I hope it’s him.
Quoted from CrazyLevi:If you can’t tell the difference what does it matter.
It doesn’t really but the real deal is a good actor who clearly knows the role and the show. Might do a better job than an actor of an actor. Haha
Quoted from delt31:Def doesn't sound like him. I thought it was just generic but #4 at Stern like they do for the other games. Sounded ok but not real deal or close.
Direct feed of the audio on the teaser made it all seem fake to be honest.
Quoted from twinmice:So I like the idea of Stern trying new things, all for it, projector is great, I just hope its not overused just because its new.
It’s a major part of the game. It will be used at all times on the premium and LE.
Quoted from ScottyC:Agreed! Where is a built in solution at to integrate Hue? Lets get even more immersive with some environmental aspects
That would be incredible. My one thought is you can setup the disco mode and put your phone near the game.
Very interested to see the rule structure. I see some definite Brian eddy things in there like 5 way combo and the 5-6 tasks you’ll need to obtain to get to the final mode.
Demogorgon seems to have a setup like the castle and ship on Mm and AFM.
Only thing is the massive mode count. Very interested to see how those play into all this.
Quoted from NeilMcRae:can't imagine the pro not having the projector - it would be like MMR-CE not having the castle! Why do we think the pro doesn't have it?
No projector on the pro. Trust me.
Quoted from Tranquilize:I guess I'm not into photoshop collages lol
It’s not a photoshop collage. It’s hand drawn from assets. Think Star Wars.
Quoted from jonesjb:Is it really hand drawn? Or is it digitally drawn via a Wacom using software?
What’s the difference? Haha. Some will like the art some won’t. I was told it’s hand drawn. Take that for what it is.
Quoted from jonesjb:There are differences. Using gouache, oil, pen and ink, or pencil looks different than refactoring assets in digital software programs using a tablet.
I take hand drawn as being drawn with your hands. I could be wrong though. Never known a playfield to have art hand painted on it either.
Quoted from jonesjb:I agree. I wonder if using a mouse (by hand) in Microsoft Paint could technically be considered hand drawn art too?
I assume all these guys are doing what ZY does. Using some sort of software/stylus. But again it doesn’t matter. All that matters is if you like the end product. Some will some won’t
Just noticed in the video the projector project the current mode timer on the stand ups. Genius. So many possibilities with this tech.
At BLINK in Cincinnati they use this tech too on the buildings and sync music to it. Looked awesome.
Quoted from PinheadEDM:What differences will there be more evident le vs premium? Back glass, sound, shaker, HD stern glass, Gary’s signature,, powdercoated
I think they put art blades in the now too. Would be cool if they did real knocker kits in the LEs too.
Quoted from rai:makes sense. Don't get me wrong but the prices are going up and when RaM would cost almost the same as AFM LE (with shipping, shaker, etc.) have to wonder where things are headed until we accept $6K as the cheapest pin. Least Stern is putting service rails in the pro now. I wonder if the pro will have the projector but not the magnet wall. I could not imagine this pin without the projector.
The pro has no projector.
Quoted from J85M:Chuck do you know if the pro has the magnet lock or not? Thanks
Pretty sure it doesn’t
Quoted from frankmac:Where does the ball go when shot in the Demogorgon mouth?
Anyone?
Good question. We will find out soon enough!
Maybe a similar vuk or saucer eject like AFM.
Quoted from DugFreez:How about target drifting? I can see that possibly being an issue. Have any recent Sterns had this issue or have they been using a better design / mounting system so this doesn't occur? It seems that can be seen a bit in some of the screen shots. Lining up one tiny projector to land perfectly across that big of an area on so many different things seems like it might be a hard task.....even if all of the projection areas are staying in place and not drifting in different directions.
Pinball life has brackets that eliminate the spot target shifting.
Quoted from awesome1:I'm using the Mezel Mods target splint on my Deadpool SNNKKKT target, but it still moves over...
Try the metal pinball life one. It’s better.
Quoted from CrazyLevi:Looks cool to me.
I hope they've figured out how to make a kickout hole that doesn't send the ball straight down the middle.
It shoots it up the right inner orbit.
Yet it’s not. Haha
Quoted from TheLaw:This has them doesn't it? Has plain white arrow inserts usually used for RGB
It has a mix of purple and white GI. Neo is going to love it.
Quoted from Rockytop:Oh well...not saying you're wrong, but are you 100% sure on that?
yes.
Quoted from Rockytop:seems a little strange if you knock down the drops, then just shoot it up in there to a saucer...that seems really easy. If you have to do that multiple times to qualify the battle then it just seems slow or clunky to have it go in there to dribble back out again and again.
You’re a good guesser! Haha
Quoted from Bearcat:Looks like it will be easy to miss the shot on the demogorgan?
Very hard shot I’d say.
Quoted from Rando:They've got to be showing the Premium so we can see the projection effects... right??
They’ve shown both the past couple reveals.
Quoted from DugFreez:Does anyone else think purple speaker surrounds would suit the LE trim better? The purple is a bit dark without being lit, but it still matches better than Black Knight / Elvira / Iron Maiden red surrounds......and they look pretty nice lit up.
If anyone is interested...I can get you a temp link to order them from my website (or list it on here if there is a demand). I don't have any on hand now, so it would take 1 - 3 weeks to get them after they are ordered. I plan on adding these and other popular colors of the speaker surrounds to my website permanently, but I figure I would throw a quick "Add to Cart" button up before then (as I still haven't figured out how I want to list them). They are $22.50 a set + shipping. If they are included with a Speaker Light Kit order...they won't raise the shipping at all.
Doug (SpeakerLightKits.com)[quoted image][quoted image]
Purple looks great!!
Quoted from Stevemoerke:Can someone explain to me what it means on the Matrix when the pro has 2 things that the Premium and LE doesnt have? I thought it was always the other way around. Or does it mean that there is a better way of doing it on the Premium and the LE? Maybe its a typo?
1. Ball motion activated and sculpted Demogorgon that players can shoot up Hawkins Laboratory Ramp and into its mouth.....
2. Hawkins Laboratory Transforming ramp, leading to direct battle with Demogorgon[quoted image]
1. There’s a motor or coil that moves the monster on the premium. Pro it just gives when the ball hits it.
2. Pro has Hawkins lab on the center mech. Prem is white for the projector.
Quoted from CrazyLevi:Wouldn't it be something if someone beat Stern to the punch with a stream?
That would be shitty if you ask me.
Quoted from Zablon:If I just bought a 6k x 2 on toys I'd do as I please.
And no ones stopping you. I just wouldn’t do it. I respect that jack has worked hard to get these exclusive reveals. I guess it’s just cause I like to stream too. It’s a smaller community than pinball is.
Quoted from Iwasthebruce:So...lemme get this straight...the 2 coolest features, the magnetic ball lock and the projector are only on the prem/le? Why even make the pro version?
Because it’s cheaper and not everyone cares about those features.
Quoted from T3quila:Do you have yours already? Stream some after deadflip tonight or tomorrow.
I don’t have one yet. Just got to play one recently.
Quoted from Kiwipinhead:Hows everone with OCD doing with these inserts
You mean epilepsy? Okay. Haha
Quoted from Ccondo:For those who have some time on the Pro, are there ample video clips on the LCD?
Only seen a few modes but scenes from the movie accompany all of them. Early code though.
Quoted from mystman12:Anyone know who did the audio on this?
Not sure, but I’d like to shake their hand.
Quoted from PunkPin:Looks like the saucer slams the ball into the bottom of the left ramp on that pro video
It will need tweaking for sure, but if you get it right it fires it around the right inner orbit.
Quoted from Capn12:Good lord...why does every new game thread end up in a pissing match between people who like it, and people who hate it?
I suggest coming to nerd out in the club thread after the day one hype dies down here.
Quoted from cleland:Is there a Club Thread yet?
Yep!
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/stranger-things-club-join-our-party#post-5372737
Quoted from herbertbsharp:I really like that left ramp
Both ramps feel really nice. Same with the inner right orbit next to the drops.
Quoted from Zablon:Yea, not a fan of being a beta tester.
Should try it sometime. It’s rewarding to see stuff you suggested get into a game.
Quoted from TomGWI:So what’s the next title after Stranger Things? Looks pretty average.
Zeppelin or TMNT
Quoted from underlord:Let’s see how the Stranger Things pf’s look after 100 games.
This one still looks great!
Quoted from aingide:but what else is?
Literally nothing. People comparing every game to JP2 outside of the next Elwin game, is seriously not even fair. Haha
I don’t think the direct audio of the stream is a fair representation. When you’re playing the game in person, even if the sound is cranked, you can’t hear most of these annoyances people are having.
Quoted from kermit24:When you enter the Upside Down, all the shots go dark except for the Upside Down shots. The game seems to get darker also. You know.
I bet the projector takes care of the ash effect too.
Quoted from JodyG:I wonder how hard it would be to install your own projector into a pro, and run the Premium/LE code?
Not possible. Try and run the prem/LE code on a pro and the game doesn’t work at all. I know because I’ve accidentally done it done it before. Haha
Quoted from kpg:1) Lonnie being the main coder. When's the last time he coded a great game?
Guardians
Quoted from Doctor6:..... well that's a hot take. There is no fucking way this will have better code than AFM.
It already does. Haha. Every game from that era is extremely shallow.
Right now STH Pro doesn’t have the moments that AFM has especially the demogorgon modes and the upside down, but the rules are already way more interesting than AFM. It has total annihilation but with three different tiers. It’s not the same each time. And the path to that mode is much more interesting (the 12 story modes).
That piece alone makes this code better than AFM.
What it will come down to in the end is can STH’s fanfare and moments and humor compete with AFM’s. That’s a tall task.
That would be badass but I doubt it would be very visible. Looks like it needs those white areas to really work well.
Can’t wait to see it in person.
Quoted from f3honda4me:On the stream they said indirect hits that don’t go in are in fact registered and even give points.
In the code that on our game, nothing registers unless it goes in the mouth.
Quoted from spfxted:Game really looks like fun! Where is the projector going to be located?
I believe in the apron.
Quoted from T3quila:In the stream it was definitely visible when they missed the mouth but hit the figure, it was even accompanied with a video. Might have to adjust a switch maybe.
Cool. They must have different code that what we’re playing. Good to know and hopefully simply bashing it can advance through the mode because currently the only thing that completes the mode is the mouth.
Just from that tiny clip from the deadflip stream they are definitely playing newer code. Sweet! Hopefully it’s ready for the masses soon.
Quoted from T3quila:Just bashing it didn't ever complete the mode as far as I remember unless I missed that. I think it awarded points only. But there is certainly the possibility that eg 5 bash equals one center hit or something like it. Every difficulty in the ladder seemed to add 1 or two more center hits required. They never finished it when there were the 3 on the screen though.
Currently the mode never times out. So unless you hit it in the mouth it keeps running. So borderline impossible to get pass 2-3 of the demogorgon modes. Hopefully the new code allows the bashes to complete the mode too but make it worth less and harder to kill. Mouth is insta kill.
All fair points. My main point was to say there’s more there already with STH. Is it better? I like it more right now, but others might need more of the added flair to bring it all together for them.
I can see that this game has great bones and it’s only going to get better. Can’t wait to see it evolve.
Quoted from rai:Of course tho I am not that great a player so getting to Portal or TA is not easy thing to do.
It’s good you mentioned this. That why I think this code will be good for all skill levels. That first Total isolation is only 13 shots away and some cool modes to play along the way. For the better players they know after that there are 8 more modes and 2 more total isolation type modes to play. Not to mention the other 5-6 tasks you must complete to get to the final showdown.
But again, can they capture those same moments and humor that makes AFM so great? Not sure. It will be tough.
The kids are hilarious especially Dustin. Get lots of their banter in the game and the humor will be there.
Quoted from Rascal_H:It’s got burn the kid mode though. That’s pretty awesome.
The sound effects in this mode are wild.
Quoted from Zablon:Tournament players like to hold the balls indefinitely to set up shots. Games need to integrate point penalties for ball cradling. Easy enough to do. No ball hits + flipper held X over 1 second = start penalties.
WWF royal rumble does exactly this during multiball and other modes.
Quoted from snaroff:Equating the mode count with depth doesn't make sense to me.
I’ve probably played 10 of the main story modes on this. Maybe two of them feel similar. Even on this early code. That’s a good sign.
Quoted from Lermods:Does the game have magnets throwing the ball around the playfield.
Thankfully no.
Quoted from Lermods:Is there an upside down mode of any sort in the game?
Yes.
Quoted from bigd1979:Only shot I dont love is the right orbit as I believe it only leads to the pop area? Or can it open up and make full orbit shots like on afm after u hit the shot enough?
It always feeds the pops due to the ramp for the left orbit blocking it off.
Quoted from bigd1979:I also believe balls can be locked behind the drops and in the left mystery shot area.
No locks there. This is just a lane like the ACDC pro bell lane with a one way gate in the middle that feeds the saucer that spits into the left orbit.
Quoted from KozMckPinball:Is there a gobble hole on the playfield behind the drops? Not sure how dirty pool is even possible here if it's just the demogorgon mouth that's only accessible with the ramp down and is a shot above the playfield level anyway.
Dirty pool is possible the same way it is for AFM. Sneak a slow roller back there as the targets reset. If done I multiple times already but no dirty pool is in the code yet. Just sits there until ball search.
Quoted from KozMckPinball:Not sure how it can be done without a gobble hole but maybe the opto beam break works the same on Stranger Things to progress?
Bingo. And it’s a scoop in AFM FYI. Gobble holes drain the ball.
Quoted from T3quila:In the stream the ball got caught several times behind the stand-ups. It cycled them pretty quickly to release them, way quicker than ball search - 1 second maybe 2 -, so I think they can detect that situation and have in their code already addressed it.
Yeah good point. It’s quick and not a full ball search.
I don’t think stern will sell spare playfields but if that will put your mind at ease, I say go for it.
Quoted from cooked71:<ablockquote cite="#5376778">I don’t think stern will sell spare playfields but if that will put your mind at ease, I say go for it.
Pretty sure they will sell you a spare, but IMO it’s overkill. Very unlikely you’ll have a problem and for home use you won’t come close to wearing it out.
Cabinets are not a problem recently as they’ve been using all ply and Williams style cabinet brackets (at least on PreLe’s - can’t comment on Pro’s).
Pros have them too.
Quoted from T3quila:In the feature matrix one of the differences of the pro is a plastic bottom arch vs steel. What arch? Anybody maybe got a picture what is meant?
Thanks!
They are talking about the apron.
Quoted from Doctor6:That's not why people are hating on this. Nobody hated jurassic park. This pin looks like shit. That's why the hate. We went from JP to this? Yikes.
If you use JP as the benchmark for your opinions of games, you’re not gonna like very many new games.
Quoted from Pinzap:[quoted image]
Teasing of course... I completely agree.
This would be an amazing callout if you failed to complete one of the modes. Haha
Quoted from T3quila:Arch was me. I only know that part as apron. I was imagining something in the cabinet or below the playfield to increase rigidity or something.
In any case, good advise though!
Would’ve been funny if they had Hopper do his best AFM jackpot and super jackpot callouts.
Quoted from Zablon:Yes they can...
Pinside has proven this plenty of times. Haha.
For those that are disappointed so far. What were some of the things physically that you’d wish they had done?
Lower or upper playfield would’ve been bad for this imo
Magnets all over the main playfield is a bad idea too. See TWD. Just make things more frustrating than cool.
I’m not a very imaginative person, so I struggle with ideas in this regard.
Quoted from pinmister:My critic would be I would have liked to see interactive magnets on the playfield-not some gimmicky backboard lock. Total waste of magnet potential with Eleven.
I am pumped they did it this way. Completely new, never been done before and will never cause a cheap drain. Win, win, win.
Quoted from pinmister:Pop bumpers that again do nothing? Can we just get rid of them if they want to shove in upper corner? Weak sauce
Fair point here. They seem to have similar coding as AFM at the moment.
Quoted from pinmister:Does every game have to have a center button on lock down bar now? Why?
Yes. Same reason why they do not do widebodies. They buy the lockbars and cabinets in bulk and never change them. Makes sense from a bottle line standpoint.
Quoted from pinmister:Are there too many modes and inserts? Will anyone be able to get to Wizard within 45 minutes? I like deep games, just wondering if this one is too deep(is that possible?) Time will tell
Agree. Time will tell but on the surface I would expect similar timing to rule the universe with some added time due to having to play the modes on your way to the mini wizard modes. So 45 mins seems adequate as far as an expectation.
Quoted from JayLar:More interactive playfield, not just lanes and ramps. Sure the demagorgon is nice but there could be more to do.
Like what??
Quoted from PanzerFreak:Multiple magnets under the center of the playfield (Dialed In / Addams Family style) would have been perfect considering 11's powers. The magnets could have been used in a number of chapter modes and multiballs where 11 uses her powers. This would also break up the void in the middle of the playfield and overall add a lot more excitement to the game.
Or for me, frustration. No bueno.
Quoted from pinmister:I forgot to add onto MNpinball's point about how there should have been pop-ups like Nightcrawlers on X-MEN or Trolls on MM. Pop-up Demo Dogs would have been awesome-and a homage to MM.
Yeah. That would’ve been sweet and easy to do and could also make use of the projector. Have them block the ramps. Just a couple would’ve been awesome.
Quoted from fooflighter:..anyways, here's my list:
So you wanted all this in the same standard sized cabinet? Not sure this is physically possible.
Quoted from luvthatapex2:Guess what? stern won’t be changing the layout so the most we can hope for is incredible code/modes and light shows. Let’s talk about wish lists for those
Definitely need better lighting for the upside down. The initial change in the game and music is great but I hope the projector does a good job of showing the ash everywhere.
Also I’m not thrilled with the upside down being random. Would be cool if it was punishment for doing poorly in modes and you have to hit shots unlike the mode you’re in to get back out.
Definitely need to be able to kill the demogorgon via hits alone and not require the mouth shot. It’s a 1 in 20 at best shot.
I will have to see where this game is at in a few months too. I’m sure some of this is already in the works.
Oh okay gotcha. I think the tunnel system is an interesting idea. Definitely possible since we know STTNG has a major subway system in it. That would be an all or nothing feature though I would think.
At the end of the day stern will always have 2-3 items they put into the prem/LE that makes the game full featured. It’s up to the buyer to decide if that’s enough for them to pull the trigger. They will never have a game packed with stuff like JJP. I’m okay with that. Hard to make a good shooter with stuff everywhere. Always good to have options.
I’m not thrilled with the right orbit either. If that was a lift ramp back there, I would have almost no issues with this layout.
Quoted from CrazyLevi:Magna saves do not work effectively during multi ball. The balls stick together and one or both drain. Ask anybody who’s played a lot of Black Knight 3 and thought they were being cute.
The WCS one works pretty good in MB. I use it from time to time to bring two balls to a trap.
Quoted from CrazyLevi:Ha never thought to try that. And people say it’s absolutely useless!
People are stupid.
Also I like to use it for a ball about to run off the tip of the flipper so that I have a good clean trap for a shot on final draw.
The key here is no location games will register hits to the demogorgon. Once the new code drops and we can hit the demogorgon for damage I think it will be much better.
But fully agree that the all or nothing mouth shot is ridiculously hard.
Quoted from T3quila:In the stream they made it look easy. They sounded upset the few times they missed it.
Maybe there’s an easy adjustment that can be made because all the ones in the public’s hands are crazy hard to make.
I don’t want it to be hard to miss the mouth. I just want to figure out a way that the success rate is greater than like 1%. Haha. If Alek says it’s too hard, it’s too hard.
Quoted from f3honda4me:This makes me think maybe an adjustment to the mech is needed for those having a hard time with the shot?
I looked it over and didn’t seem like there was much adjustment available. I thought if the demogorgon was sitting back a bit more at rest, it might help the ball settle in there better. I just couldn’t see how to do that. There are so rubber washers on either side that allow the toy to give when you hit it. That’s it. They are tight to get to, so I didn’t try tightening or loosening the bolts.
Quoted from manadams:Try changing the flipper strength.
Not an option at this point.
Quoted from John1210:How is a difficult shot a fatal flaw. Nothing wrong with challenging shots... particularly if it's a major scoring shot that needs to be nailed. Increases game longevity and satisfaction when you hit it if you ask me. If you could hit the shot easily all the time it would get real boring real fast.
But there is a difference between difficult and borderline impossible. I’ve played the game over 100 times and got it in the mouth of the demogorgon less than ten times. I would say the average amount of shots I take on it per game is around 30.
Quoted from Zablon:Well...that means it comes up too often. That is basically the end game shot. It shouldn't be coming up that often, and shouldn't be possible every time you play the game. To me that screams how shallow this game really is...
Huh? Do you think the ship on AFM comes up too often? The demogorgon is harder to make appear than that.
Quoted from Zablon:Been awhile since I've played it, but there isn't a single hit that kills it right?
Correct. But imagine it only took one shot to kill the ship but you only hit the shot 1 out of 20-30 tries. If that.
Quoted from littlecammi:It sounds like the alignment between the demogorgon's mouth and the ramp in the down position varies from pin to pin. Hopefully this relationship is adjustable. On pins where the shot is extremely hard to make, is the ball consistently hitting too high (or too low) when missing the mouth?
On the one I have the ball hits to high. When I do make it it’s not quite as high, pushes the head back enough that the ball falls in.
Quoted from pinmister:simply make a shot up the ramp and bam it is over?
If that was the case on all games i would agree. Not sure why one like yours is a guarantee and others are impossible. I think somewhere in between would be good. Make the player think twice about shooting it, but not completely avoid it either.
So .64 seems to be what they streamed. Hits register on the demogorgon and I’m seeing all the animations that were shown in the stream.
I’m sure tips to adjust the demogorgon head will come out soon enough, just didn’t want to take apart a game that didn’t belong to me. I’ll let our OP deal with it. Haha
Quoted from BeeGeeMtl:Honestly, I watched Deadflip's stream a couple of times and nobody has ANY ISSUES putting it into his mouth. They would miss once in a while but overall it was pretty easy, I thought. In fact, I thought they might have made it too easy from what they were doing. Maybe it's a matter of dialing in your machine.
Agree. Haha. Just have to wait until someone else figures out the fix. Right now I don’t see how to do it without taking a bunch of shit apart.
Quoted from cooked71:Pf Level or angle off? Too shallow/steep? Guessing that jump ramp is very sensitive to angle/level.
Level. I tried at least half a dozen pitches. All the same. Pretty sure the head itself needs adjustment. Just not sure how and it’s not easy to get to the mech to try and make adjustments.
Quoted from iceman44:Wow. Bueno.
Did you try some left/right slight adjustment? That's what cured my TWD pop bumper drains. Just a tiny bit off left/right level.
Not sure how that’s going to fix my issue. When I’m dead nuts on the mouth it’s always too high. Having the game lean one way or the other isn’t going to help. But yeah at one point I had the game leaning to the right a bit to help with the trajectory of the saucer kick out so it would make the right inner orbit.
Quoted from PINQUEST:I could be wrong but I don’t think the bash toy has any actual impact switches
You’re wrong. Haha. Update the code.
Quoted from pinballOsp:Was really hoping Upside-Down would be some new, revolutionary feature but so far it seems like a load of nothing.
I expect the projector to help make the upside down feature even better.
Quoted from RipleYYY:is it based "Lonnie typical rules" ?
Right now the multiballs feel like Lonnie. The modes are varied and don’t all feel the same. It will have some aspects that Lonnie has in other games some new stuff. Expected due to the fact that it’s a group effort between Lonnie mike and Brian.
Quoted from jimwe5t:That’s one of the main caveats of ST, almost 50 modes!
Hopefully there are around 50 modes at the end of the road, but right now I’m counting around half that. The more modes the better with a huge theme like this.
Quoted from cooked71:25 ish in the Stern material.[quoted image]
This doesn’t show the 3 mini wizards or the demodog modes. So could be more than that even. We shall see.
Quoted from luvthatapex2:Maybe there are levels of the main modes?
That’s what I’m thinking. Definitely not clear on the surface how they plan to pack 40 plus modes in the game. Doesn’t seem like that was a Lonnie idea if true.
The mini wizards are the total isolation modes. Hey those after completing 4 modes. There are three of them. The season complete modes are wizard modes. There are two of them. Final showdown is the 3rd and final wizard mode.
I don’t see total isolation modes in the matrix anywhere. Could be more that aren’t there. 20 more? Not sure.
Quoted from RipleYYY:ok tanx Chuck
almost i know 1st mystery gift while in multiball will always be : add-a-ball
In some of the multiballs that’s true. Others multiballs add a ball is awarded differently.
Quoted from Chalkey:whysnow you answered your own question. It misses, falls down and triggers the opto scoring a hit.
Have any of you animals tried calling stern to see how to adjust the demogorgon? Are yall consistently hitting high, low, or all over the place?
Mine is always missing high. But I’m taking it to our local bar today so I don’t have time to mess with it as it’s not mine. I’ll have to wait for my LE and see then. I’m sure fixes will be out there by then.
