Quoted from Shapeshifter:

Plenty of money in this hobby.
It will just mean more games go on second hand market.
Operators will buy ST as it should do well on location.
And Stern do want ST to be out before GnR!
When will JJP learn to do just one proper LE though?

I don't think ST will do that well on location it's not as a big brand as some might think.

Stern don't give two hoots about what other manufacturers are doing and quite rightly so, R&M will have almost zero effect on ST (or whatever the Stern game is). GNR is a TPF game.

Game will be publically announced probably 8th of Jan maybe a little bit earlier which is when they announce munster last year, but maybe next week and then it will be at CES for sure.

I can't imagine the pro not having the projector - it would be like MMR-CE not having the castle! Why do we think the pro doesn't have it?

Quoted from chuckwurt:

Yeah that’s the premium I believe in the video.

lack of round speakers mean its not an LE for sure

#1427 4 years ago

we can bet that there is a price hike on this for sure.

Quoted from iceman44:

How much extra does it cost to cover those RM speaker panels? Woof...
You can butter your way up to over $9k shipped. Lol

with you dood, I'm in on R&M BS and NST LE but the purple on the R&M is terrible.

#2052 4 years ago
Quoted from usandthem:

I wouldn’t want to spend $5700 on a pro and be the first to report such defects.

Dood, relax, life is good. I got a JP2 LE with the new playfield and is a beautiful thing! I'm in on an LE. Reach for your phone, call your distributor, place an order, sit back with a nice glass of wine, some lovely cheese and enjoy the rays whilst the heroic people at Stern bring you a big fucking beautiful Stranger Things Pro.

can't understand the hate for this game. It has lots of shots, some challenging, it has a ruleset that looks like is quite deep. So the theme isn't perfect but it never is - most folks haven't played it?

#2670 4 years ago
Quoted from Rarehero:

Critique of a $6000-$9000 toy isn’t “hate”. It’s normal discussion that should take place when deciding whether a $6000+ toy is worth purchasing.

Nobody can possibly critique it until they've played the game.

#2671 4 years ago
Quoted from KozMckPinball:

In AFM, it was probably inadvertent design. During multiball in AFM, the saucer kills cannot be progressed because the bank/drop targets are up and target hits do not register during multiball. In Medieval Madness the castle progression can happen during multiball play, bridge and gate hits register. However, in AFM, during multiball, a dirty pool shot will kill a saucer. So the question is, why would the scoop register during multiball and not a target hit in AFM? I'd guess design oversight and clever gamesmanship by players who discovered that. Hard to believe that was as-designed behavior and might or might not be there on Stranger Things but in that case, the designers are already aware of the issue. We'll see...

start the saucer mode before starting multi ball...

#2852 4 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

It’s the same story every release for Stern.
You know the gig Neil.
Everybody wants a $12.5k bill of materials BOM pin for a $7500 price tag

yeah but everyone was doing a love dance for munsters this time last year and that +is+ a turd.

Anyone who said that game was shite got shot down (I was one of the first to play it) and when I reported it was a turd and canceled my LE and was then shot down.

This game seems the opposite, everyone is binning it and it actually looks like excellent to me. I don't care for the theme on either of those games I just want a game that's fun to shoot and has me going back for more.

TWD - I used to leave work sharp so I could get home and play it, eventually bought a Pro for the office. IMDN, have LE at home and bought a premium for our club, just want to play and play...

#2854 4 years ago
Quoted from Rarehero:

We absolutely can. We can see the art, see the features, see the layout, watch streams, hear the sounds. We know whether this pleases our eyes and ears. Many of us have played enough games to get a solid take on what any new game is about at launch. Our opinion may change once played, but impressions upon reveal are not to be discounted entirely.

Ok, nobody can give at least me a critique that I'll pay any attention of I guess its like cars for me, what it looks like on the outside isn't as important as the smile factor I get when I drive.

Play the game then make your mind up. I used to avoid 80's games like the plague as they all looked boring, playing at Pinburgh meant I didn't have a choice and I'm so glad as I love them and I've bought loads of them.

My only concern about this game was Lonnie on code but again I'll wait until I play it before I say its good or bad.

Cheers,
Neil.

Quoted from Chief:

Yes extremely

not really lol - 1.3m is the average viewing rate across the show; which in the UK is ok but not great.

Star Trek Discovery is much bigger (and biggest streaming show in the UK).

Neil.

#4774 4 years ago

nah it hasn't, in the UK according to survey its stayed about the same; Netflix doesn't release UK data unfortunately.

Its ok but not great.

but what do I know

#4780 4 years ago
Quoted from Chief:

You stated that the average viewing figures were 1.3m which is incorrect. It was 1.3m for the initial week of season 2 release. And yes it has grown in popularity since 2017.
It’s ok you’re forgiven you must have jet lag! How was INDISC?

not sure where you are getting your figures from, but we get ratings for programmes at the TV company that I work for. Streaming programmes are hard when the broadcaster doesn't release them but we can infer based on survey and internal data, hopefully netflix (and others) release the data. My personal view based on that is that it's ok but not great. In the US it's huge no question.

Neil.

#4782 4 years ago

oh and INDISC was excellent but very hard!

#4788 4 years ago

I don’t think the guardian counts as “mainstream press” dood. But keep your anecdotes

#4789 4 years ago

So today I got to see and play the premium.

All this noise about the projector is total nonsense. Even in a very_ well lit room at EAG the projection was great. Darker yes it’s better but I can’t imagine any of us playing near the sun and even then...

The projector content is super cool. Different symbols appear on the switches; countdowns drive different points and the backbox is lit up by the projector in a cool way. I was in two minds to change my LE order to an Elvira but I’m sticking with it. I was also able to hit the gorgon shot several times.

Neil.

#4792 4 years ago
Quoted from Rockytop:

Awesome news. It's good to hear you liked the content.
I'm hoping for some cool rules to the modes where we have hit targets/shots in certain way/order and that is communicated to the player by the projector. Obviously, there is a ton of potential here considering how many different surfaces it can project onto.

From what I saw that is the direction as well as giving you messages about what to shoot and when. Having seen it in person now I really think the concept has a lot of things you can do with it.

#4794 4 years ago
Quoted from ViperVS:

It’s like you are describing another game.

No; I’m describing what I saw with my own eyes_ versus a poorly set up camera (with a CCD that does alsorts of shit with an image and a backlight on the camera that was washing everything out and casting artefacts all over the place ).

#4801 4 years ago
Quoted from bigd1979:

Any video or not worth posting bc it dont capture well?

No, I didn’t record it - but I was in a conference centre meeting room with the full lights on and it was fine, turn the lights down or off and yes it’s better.

I think its possible to capture it with the right equipment. Have you ever been to CES or any big show? Clowns all over the place with huge camera gimbals and back LED lights that can be seen from the ISS.

I’m a tech snob, Part of my job is running a set of TV channels, I was first in the world to broadcast soccer at 4K, I received an Emmy for technical innovation - so I’m pretty confident that the vast majority will be ok with the projector - I wasn’t able to find out details of what type it is and I know some people see rainbows in some projector types but in my view it’s perfectly fine and the way it works with the game is freaking outstanding!

#4817 4 years ago
Quoted from Rockytop:

Nice. That is reassuring to hear from an expert. Personally, I wasn't too worried about the core function of it...more the code, but it's still good to hear your opinion.

I agree I have concerns with code but that applies to all the manufacturers...

#4971 4 years ago
Quoted from Durzel:

neilmcrae is it better than Munsters though? ..which you also hyped to the max on the UK forum and told people that they should get the LE/Premium pretty much sight unseen?

I don't think I told anyone to get the LE/Premium but fair cop to having seen something that looked amazing before the code was complete and thinking it would be great. I think its fair that rather than do a whysnow on it I came clean after playing it for 8 hours and stating it was a turd and I was an idiot for deciding before I played the game.

Quoted from Zablon:

And here come the apologists.

“Profit is profit” FRoA #202 and if stern can make profit then crack on! I predict nearly all games will have this accessory added!

No I’m not apologising for it, in my view they have nothing to apologise for.

Now if it was some new mech for the game that changed the game play I’d feel very_ different about it. But this is a fancy light nothing more or less.

Neil.

#6648 4 years ago

WoZ lightboards! We are charging you for lights that we cocked up in the first place!

#6652 4 years ago

I can't believe people are saying. "Stern knew about this" like anyone has to be freaking convinced about that.

#6677 4 years ago
Quoted from Zablon:

You are correct! It is completely in their right. No one says it isn't. It is also in the customers right to call them on it. See how that works? Also, 'fancy lighting' now 'gameplay' later. Wait for it.
You don't think Stern charged everyone for that UV paint that they can't use without this other part? Highly unlikely. It was rolled into the price of the playfield cost.

how can't they use it? the ball rolls the same...

#6684 4 years ago
Quoted from Zablon:

You have low standards

I'm posting on pinside afterall

#6689 4 years ago
Quoted from Zablon:

No one is trying to convince you to not buy it. We don't need to validate your purchase for you. Enjoy your game. Not everyone is going to agree. That's the way the world works. If you have even bothered to read anything people have stated, then there's no need for me to once again iterate why people have an issue with it because everyone has said it more than once, on more than just this forum. It doesn't matter if you think it's a valid concern or not, because just like you saying you like the game and no one is going to change your mind, you aren't going to change theirs.

I'm not trying to change anyones mind. I'm trying to understand how the game has changed.

#6806 4 years ago
Quoted from Zablon:

It isn't about the game changing, that's never been what the negativity is about (for most people).

then I don't know why anyone is so excited/anti-excited about a LED upgrade. The game plays the same! But we got new code that actually improves the game!

#6807 4 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

Let the Spooky Bricks guys do their thing
No need to stoop to their level in this thread despite the non stop BS from them
We aren’t in that thread because we don’t care and if makes em happy then more power to em
The facts are on our side
Don’t worry. I will wear them down

LOL the Bricks thread - yeah the level of BS in that thread is nuts.

#6808 4 years ago

man we don't need more pinstadium adverts please!

#6864 4 years ago
Quoted from cooked71:

You got new code that brings it marginally closer to the complete game it should have been at launch.

Interesting how 2 companies selling an equivalent product can have totally different relationships with their customers. This thread has devolved into a Stern bashing fest yet R&M is overwhelmingly positive. Why is that?

yeah so what? it wasn't, annoying that it isn't but that's how it is, stern got this wrong and have improved it but still not good I agree but they get the code out eventually.

Spooky is niche; stern sells more games in one title than they've shipped in total; not everyone is happy with Spooky titles and they aren't all perfect, our Alice Cooper is more unreliable than my 1980's nine ball.

They just seem to be given a pass because they are new and small; others like them got the same treatment but less successful (look at dutch pinball; If I had skin in that game they'd have been declared bankrupt and had all their assets seized by now but those involved are like they've done nothing wrong despite being ripped off for thousands of pounds ) Look at JJP, shipping the most expensive "high quality" games with playfields that shocking.

#6867 4 years ago
Quoted from TheFamilyArcade:

Here’s my problem with the UV kit. It really should have been a standard feature in the game. The game doesn’t have much else. The underground is a big part of Stranger Things, things are different there. Shouldn’t the pin change up dramatically when you’re in that mode? With GI or playfield lighting or something? Yes, it should. SW has less on it than STH but it also has a killer light show and excellent theme integration that changes the feeling of the game when appropriate.
I’m not seeing much theme integration at all with STH. Are there audio visual clips from the show that interact with the game? In the streams I see I see a bunch of demagorgan visuals and not much else. Maybe I’m wrong about this, but STH appears to suffer from Wonka-itis in his way.
So when there’s little actual theme integration to begin with - and practically no toys or features - than having to pay extra for one thing that actually provides integration with the show is inane. And insulting.
And yes Ice, sadly, after being screwed yet again by Stern, most people will step right up and buy on the next release. I won’t be one of them. I put my money where my mouth is and I’ve been doing it since the clusterfuck that was AVLE. While Stern has released many fun games since, they’ve done absolutely nothing to make me a day 1 buyer. And indeed, have screwed up so often that I would never trust them with a NIB purchase.

how have stern screwed anyone? Nobody bought this game without seeing it. Nobody has to buy the kit. What if they had never_ came out with the kit? This is something that they have added. I'm struggling with this. The game plays the same!

#6868 4 years ago
Quoted from Kiwipinhead:

I just watched the R&M stream, I think Spooky have a hit on their hand, shame they limited it to 750.
also the funniest tilt in Pinball.

it looks very good and glad to have on on order but how could they dare ship a game with still build issues, bugs in code and the code not finished?!*

* that was irony

Neil.

#6884 4 years ago
Quoted from cooked71:

No question Spooky get a huge pass on many levels, but people like buying from them so they’re more tolerant. Spooky engage with their customers - people feel like they’re part of the Spooky journey.
I know Spookys size gives them that luxury and it’s more difficult for a company like Stern, but they really could do better in building their “Global Lifestyle Brand”. They’ve got the $$$$ to spend on marketing but they f*ck it up 9 times out of 10. I should feel good about buying Stern but I feel like I’m buying Stern because I have no choice (I know, first world problems).
Not sure what a Stern “Lifestyle” would look like, but I know I don’t want it.[quoted image]

I agree, stern on marketing and game release they totally have dropped the ball on that. When was the last Stern announcement a surprise to anyone? Yet spooky sneak out R&M with nobody expecting it.

"Stranger things" by "Brian eddy" for some a huge tv show and a huge pinball designer - expectations have been bubbling for months... and every knew for like almost a year. Everyone expected a game changer and whilst ST is good in my view it's not a game changer.

however, nobody, but nobody has to buy anything from Stern they don't like, if you are uncertain of the future of a game from them, wait until it's finished. Personally I've never felt let down by them, maybe they took too long on some stuff (GB). but TWD, B66, IMDN, DP, BKSOR, Star Trek, JP2 are fucking epic games in my view.

#6887 4 years ago
Quoted from JonCrox:

I feel sorry for Stern, Gary probably dislocated his shoulder patting himself on the back for finally having a pinball game with distributors before its announced (shady "leaked" video aside) and delivered the next day and with a killer current theme and then all the old poor QC, rushed out the door, poor code, dimples vs craters, etc comes back to haunt him.
Never mind, hes got "Stage 2" of the release to finally shown off the amazing projector gimmick that should have been shown on launch , ok, well done we all say, how innovative, shame the ball lock is wank, "dont worry he thinks , "I've got an ace in the sleeve with the UV add on"... but fumbles that in the end zone also as we all dump on the shady money grab.
I hope stern realise this "maybe" the tipping point is upon us and stop taking the pi$$ out of the loyal army they've worked so hard to build over 25 or so years. Or not, but I hope so.

wow - I have to admit to not thinking that deep about my hobby!

they've had the game with distributers a few times before launch and nearly all of them the day after launch. Having bought games from all the manufacturers; none of them have ever launched a game without issues, and those around in the WMS days say the same about them.

#6910 4 years ago
Quoted from frankmac:

The UV lights are safe in this pin. I played 5 games in a row and I can say that the UV exposure is a none issue![quoted image]

less worried about skin issues, but black light and your eyesight is something to be careful about.
