Trust me when I say, don’t listen to him

I think it's going to be a blast, and I think the Premium/LE has a chance to be a special game.

Quoted from drfrightner:

With everyone talking about Dialed In instead of what the thread is about speaks volumes. Stranger Things is a BOMB!
In my opinion it might be the very worst game Stern has ever produced. Forget the theme as a pinball this game is not good.
This game is a stranger thing, because the strangest thing is why anyone would buy this game.
I only say that because when you look at Munsters, look at how fast the LE prices dropped. You can get an LE now for $6500... that is a loss of 2500 plus.
I'm nearly positive if you wanted to sell your Jurassic Park LE RIGHT NOW you could get really close to what you paid. JJP Pirates LE you can get more than you paid. Stranger Things will be one of these games 6 months from now going for 2k loss. I'd say if you really wanted one let someone get really bored of it and then buy it and save 2k at least.

You have The Beatles in your collection. I’d say that you know a thing or two about shitty Stern games that tank in value- haha.

Quoted from Rarehero:

Stern has released almost every game massively unfinished. I mean, we could go back to Wheel of Fortune...but it’s still happening recently. Batman ‘66. Ghostbusters. GOTG. They do it because they can. NIB maniacs will still buy the games no matter what. What incentive to they have to release a finished product?

They are pros and are dedicated to greatness. They’ll finish the product like they always do.

A better question is why would anybody think they won’t eventually release a finished product? They always do.

I shit you not, I hear even a WWE code update is in the pipeline.

You bring up some interesting points but comments like these make me scratch my head. Lets unpack all this... You say its too early to tell either way. HUH? If you walk into a car dealership and look at a brand new Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger. You will immediately walk right to the one that catches your eye. You'll never say well time will tell if I like one of the others based on how some code gets added. Code can make a game more fun no doubt, but every pinball game has code. Do people love MM because of the code or because of the kick ass Castle, the monsters that pop out of the playfield, the super fun artwork, funny things that happen during the game or again is it the code? Which one do you think it is?

When I think of Attack from Mars I think about the artwork, the funny scenes on the screen, how much fun the game is to play or do I think of the code? Those old games don't have much code, yet you still pay a ton for games like Twilight Zone and there is NO CODE updates. So why would you judge a game strictly on code alone? HUH! If how the code develops impacts a value of a game then should Theater of Magic, or Indiana Jones go down in value since there are no code updates?

My point is there is more to code and I think first and foremost a game must pass the eye test. Yes there was many people on this site that ripped on Batman 66, but guess what it never impacted sales. People bought the game despite people on pinside hating on the code. Why? The artwork is amazing, one of the first games Stern ever had a color screen showing real movie clips. People love Batman 66 based on the theme first and foremost not to mention the game is fun. Yes code made the game more fun. My point is code can't save a dog. Stranger Things doesn't have Batman 66 artwork, it doesn't have the clips like Batman, and it looks cheap. Maybe the LE is better when you add in the extra features but the PRO its a DOG!

Quoted from Rockytop:

I have no clue how Stranger Things will end up, but one thing I know for sure is it's way too early to tell either way. Odds are it won't be the worst game or the best game ever. It will likely be fun.

Let's seen the full featured game with closer to 1.0 code and then dog it or praise it.

People dogged TWD, Batman66, MET, etc...when they came out, but as the games developed they became favorites.

You may be right, you may be wrong...only time will tell

Beatles is a FUN pinball game, and honestly it might be one of the best art packages on any Stern game ever. Beatles the theming is great, it feels like a 1963 pinball game. My complaint about Beatles is the price, otherwise I love Beatles. I don't care that its based on an old playfield the game is a lot of fun.

I have to say Stern might want to bring back this artist because he's their best.

Oh and btw you talk about TANKED in value... good point.

To bad mine didn't tank in value since I bought it for only $6800. I ripped Stern for the price not the game so I waited around and got one for a lot less. That is exactly what I would do with this game I'd wait because people will get bored of this game fast. Munsters same thing selling for a ton less. Just be patient and see what happens in the used market. That is just my opinion save the money and get one later.

I would assume rock fantasy is getting one soon, pay attention to their Facebook page.

Modern I don’t think does the “buy every new stern” thing but you could call and ask them.

Jackbar and sunshine are a lock for Monday.

im Courious if this game is gonna have a video mode. The first time I watched deadflips video I heard mike say that there is no video mode. That surprised me because it’s one of the options in the mystery menu. After watching the video a second time at about the 47th minute someone on stream brings this up and mike and jack gave a very tongue in cheek answer. Did anyone else pick up on this?

One of the mystery awards you could see in the stream was Video Mode - during the stream they tongue in cheek said to ignore that - so one is coming I’d say

Beatles is the laziest money-grab Stern has done recently. I was SHOCKED at all the panning B/W STILLS used for their concert crowds on-screen when much more compelling actual live-action footage is available. Using crappy stills just came across as cheap, which NO version of Beatles pinball pricing was. They were all massively over priced and should have had a deluxe presentation to match the price. Indefensible. A huge "meh" - and the still-falling prices on the secondary market reflect that.

I wouldn't judge a game on code alone. We agree there. I agree that code can't save a dog.

I just don't think the Prem/LE is going to be a dog. The focus of Eddy's vision and design was around the Prem/LE and it's features...mainly the projector.

A good game needs a good layout, theme, features/toys, callouts, ruleset, art, etc...A good game has a total package that comes together. Maybe not all the individual elements are perfect, but the end result is a fun overall product.

Stranger Things (prem/LE) has the elements I look for in a game.

- 9 ball paths (counting jump ramp)
- 4 ramps
- 3-4 cool things
- projector to actively paint targets and immerse the player in different settings

- magnetic ball lock, to my knowledge the first time we've seen a lock like this that can hold multiple balls

- Demogorgan toy with drops, saucer, tamp that comes down, shooting it in his mouth, movement of the demogorgan, it certainly seems more complex than most toys Stern has in most it's games

- great theme. I love Stranger Things

- assets from the show including clips and music and cleland will work his magic...which is always awesome.

- custom callouts

I like the art.

We all like different things and that's ok. If you hate STH, the good news is Stern will release another game in 3 or 4 months.

Quoted from chuckwurt:

Not true at all. Munsters and Black knight showed the pro and LE same reveal same stream.

My bad then - I would have sworn on my grandmothers grave that I had to wait and see the premium BK....but I am the first to admit I’m wrong! It happens.

Quoted from PinMonk:

Beatles is the laziest money-grab Stern has done recently.

I respect your opinion I just don't agree. Beatles artwork is AMAZING! Beatles artwork gets a 10 out of 10. The game is based on the band from the 1960's so I honestly think it was clever to pick a retro style playfield for the design. They took a playfield people liked and improved it drastically. I love the spinning record, and loved how they did the graphics on the screen.

I personally thought Beatles was one of their best art packages ever... because the artist understood what the game was shooting for! The theming is dead on the money hey to each their own.

However none of that has anything to do with the price. Was it overpriced yes! With all that being said I think one thing on here don't realize is this... Stern doesn't make pinball games for people on pinside. They make games that appeal to people who have the money to buy them. Stern doesn't care if they sell every game off a Beatles collector website or to people thru pinside. Stern has NEVER advertised on this website not that I've seen.

Beatles price was based on a fanbase for the beatles not people on pinside. I paid $6800 and love my Beatles its one of my favorite games!

I agree. I think I said we'll have to wait and see if the added features improve the LE! I'm basing my opinion on what I saw and played the PRO!

But I agree with you, the projector could add enough for a fan or collector of pinball to bite, but the game itself still doesn't have a lot going for it.

The projector is cool but I want to see it work in a bright location.

They are pros and are dedicated to greatness. They’ll finish the product like they always do.

Pros don’t sell unfinished untested toys for $6-9k. Marketing people who have no respect for their customers do.

Only buy when complete. Anyone buying this game right now is a fool.

#3070 4 years ago
Quoted from cooked71:

But this game was clearly designed around the projector - why launch with the weakest version of the game?

Because.

Can.

With Franchi being gone, it appears he was the previous leak (things not being leaked like they use to)

Hey, Jackass!! I leaked one thing. I was lied to and I owned up to it. That was it. Your accusation that I leaked more is irresponsible and slanderous. You have no idea what you’re talking about and just flapping your mouth to hear yourself talk, but that's nothing new. Shut your uninformed mouth.

#3074 4 years ago
Quoted from zeddex:

Stern has never ever done this with any pin......since the pro/premium/LE system has been in place and people cared this much. They Roll out the PRO first....and the PREMIUM a few weeks later. That always means you have to wait to see the bells and whistles. You can complain, but it’s never been any different.

Wrong. JP2 premium was shown as well first then the pro.

It's super clear that this projector feature is not ready for primetime and if I was aprem or worse LE I would pull my money no question until I see this thing in action.

And I'm a huge fan but something is def up.

With the FOMO behind Rick and Morty, I think Stern rushed the release of Stranger Things...feeling their dominance was threatened. This may have been a huge misstep.

#3078 4 years ago

I thought there was an owners thread somewhere... but cant find it right now. Perhaps because I am annoyed.

My buddy got his pro today and already we found an issue that is making the game unplayable.

Under the demogorgon, slightly to the left, the ball is consistently getting stuck, almost as if a sling or guide rail is missing. To access this area means taking apart a lot of that section of playfield.

This happens when the ball enters the demo mouth or the area behind the drop targets at a slower speed.

Anyone else having this problem?

#3079 4 years ago
Quoted from jimwe5t:

AFM, MM, MB have very few modes and only are revered because nostalgia has a way of keeping some people thinking they’re so great. If they were produced today for the first time, everyone would be complaining at how shallow the coding is and would refuse to spend $9k on any one of them.

But since people are spending $6-$10k for them now, the SECOND time around, that means you’re just wrong.

Haven’t seen or heard of this. But right to the left of the demogorgon there should be a one way gate.

Club thread here:

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/stranger-things-club-join-our-party/page/2#post-5381232

When you take all that apart see if you see an easy way to adjust the demogorgon toy. Preferably if you can make it sit higher.

Quoted from zr11990:

How do you get such a short time for child porn and didn’t it come out that he had molested kids? If I’m wrong on that someone tell me.

The DA didn't try the sexual assault case against his relatives since it happened almost 30 years ago and it would be too hard to prove. So, they (I think it was two DAs since it was in separate counties, not sure) put a plea deal together for both cases (the child porn possession and the sexual assault) and he got a tremendously short sentence, less time served, plus probation and registration as a sex offender. I, too, was really shocked at the SUPER light sentence, given the offenses.

Spot on! As I am following it all to get real information as well as I am considering buying the pro and jazzing it up to my taste.
Coming from the never bought a NIB and thinking the new stern stuff is poor quality in the physical finish camp.
I love my original AFM, like my original MM ( not fussed on the theme really though) and therefor thinking I would like this as I love the theme.
I 'm not fussed on deep rulesets or comps etc.
Would love to see some more video of it and high quality close up pics of in and out around it.
Wish there was some swish filter to get rid of crappy replies and posts!

Played JPLE and love the game play but not the theme/movies so that makes it not for me.

Pretty much resided myself to the fact if I do buy one, its a full pull down and playfield reclear, redcal and beef up cab, sound upgrades before even playing it.
