Everyone is all Rick n Morty vs Stranger Things, and I’m sitting here like “I bought both” cuz why the hell not?

Because that's a butt load of cash? I'm buying neither and sleeping great. No worries about late deliveries, projectors, pf issues, or any of that.

#2402 4 years ago

Why TF does stern keep going with there plastic ramps!?! Is it really that much more of a price hike to put those in?? If that’s the case then find a cheap license and go all in on everything else. You could justify that kind of money if they just blew it out of the park with what the designers really want the games to be.. I can’t imagine these legend designers being OK with these thin games.

The thing is it isn't like that really. There's people who think both look like crap. There's people who like them both. No one is expected to have the same opinions regarding both of them, but there's a trumped up view from some people who seem to think any negative thoughts towards one means they are pro the other. Those who have issues with Stern in general, have them regardless of R&M.

Eh, I actually much prefer plastic ramps. Give me some ToM plastic ramp goodness all day!

Right? So many classic games have plastic ramps. Some have plastic, some have metal. It’s a design & aesthetic choice. To be anti-plastic ramp with zero reason as to why metal would be better is just like saying “too many inserts” without playing it and seeing if they benefit the rules and gameplay.

I didn't think Eddy and Stern would be a good match, and the streams supports this. Eddy made great machines with a company that gave him creative control and a good budget. I knew Stern would say, "one cheap toy, Brian." The raising ramp was too expensive so they nerfed the wire forms and raised the price. JJP would have been a better match.

This game will come and go like star wars did. Those who buy it will defend it (it's easy to love a game you own - I love Gladiators), and those who don't will forget about it.

Stern is also back to rushing shipments with abysmal code, a practice I thought they were getting under control.

For all the armchair psychologists pondering why people criticize the game and the company: please define the word "forum" for us, will ya?

I’m actually hoping stranger things is similar/better version of AFM so I could sell my AFMrLE for a tron or dialed in or something. I have a small collection so I often need to change things up and keep it fresh.

#2414 4 years ago

Very early code and only played about 4 games but considering I like the show and eddy games in general I was hugely disappointed in this one so far. The ramps and loops are fine for the most part but not the most fun to shoot. The right loop around to the left is pretty cool. The left inner lane (to the right of the left ramp) is my biggest problem as it just tends to hold the ball for a second before releasing and at least from my limited experience getting the ball in the demogorgon is going to take more adjustment than the DP katana ramp in order to make possible. I honestly don't think the shot was makable on the one I played as any direct shot would shoot off the ramp too high up. We'll see how it progresses though. Could still turn out decent but the pro at least seems very empty and I wouldn't say any of the shots are a whole lot of fun to make.

Actually no...

There‘s an old german porn pinball machine where the nude pictures that you unlock get projected.

#2420 4 years ago

Total AFM rehash but here’s the problem. The call outs for each shot are lack luster, especially the super jackpots. Shooting the demigorgon and killing it is also very lackluster, hardly any interaction other than the video and ramp going back up. All can be fixed with code I guess but will never be as good as AFM.

On the premium and LE the demigorgon isn’t static so I’d expect more fanfare.

It’s Christmas. People been cooped up in their homes with relatives they can’t stand, stressed out about any number of things. Their teenage niece keeps arguing with them about politics. Mother in law on your ass. Grandpa won’t shut the hell up about some Fight he’s having with his neighbor.
And of course the holidays can put people who don’t have any loved ones to commiserate with in a foul mood too. Hey, shitting all over Stranger Things is better than suicide or a mall rampage, for both you and society at large.
Plus - and this is a huge factor - this is the first chance the Rick and Morty cult has had to dump on a new release since they paid $1,500 for a game they won’t see in two years and haven’t seen a stream for yet.
It’s a perfect powder keg for over the top hatred. It doesn’t matter WHICH game was released, these rabid jackals we’re going to tear into it like your alcoholic uncle into the egg nog. There was more pent up energy here than the sexual tension between Diane and Sam at the cheers bar. And it had to be released!!!
As usual it’s representative of nothing. stranger things will sell like gang busters both here (the upside down) and in the real world, which pinside remains completely out of touch with.

Damn Levi, you ain’t so crazy after all!

Time for family in law stress relief drinking starting in 3, 2, 1.......

BOTTOM LINE
We are looking at a sub $6k street price pro pinball machine!!!!! Why did they stream the pro? I'm guessing so they knew the LE's would sell out like they have and they want to collect the money before folks can change their minds.

Exactly what I was thinking as well. I’m not buying this pin but Stern can sure sell a lot of pinballs even when not streamed. Unbelievable!

can't understand the hate for this game. It has lots of shots, some challenging, it has a ruleset that looks like is quite deep. So the theme isn't perfect but it never is - most folks haven't played it?

I don’t care what anybody says.

Stream makes clear that Eddy still has the nicest head of hair in pinball.

#2431 4 years ago

It looks to me like Stern + Eddy turned into Stern vs Eddy, and Stern won. It looks, sounds, and plays like most Sterns, and Brian Eddy wasn't able to work his magic to differentiate it. I don't really know why all Sterns feel like they're the same. They just do. There's nothing necessarily wrong with that. Tons of people love Stern games. They'll probably love this one too, or at least they'll say they do.

Brian: Working on Jaws.

Gawee: ONE cheap toy.

I think on AFM, Brian Eddy stated that the lower playfield was openbecause the saucer was supposed to move/fly around the playfield. Time and cost at that time as well? It should have been technically feasible. In the case of Stranger Things, the projector probably requires an open lower playfield so the beam is not blocked.

#2435 4 years ago

I am exited to see the Prem/LE game play! I have never watched Stranger Things and I am purposefully not going to watch it, as I don’t want to get hooked on the show and then decide I have to have the game.

Did Ryan Brooks ever get an update on the Stern MMR he has been waiting on? It would be a nice Christmas miracle!

#2439 4 years ago

I, for one, am looking forward to playing the LE (not mine) and having my mind friggin' blown by the incredible gameplay and projector effects!

...and if that doesn't happen, I'll rush back here and report it.

#2440 4 years ago

Don’t think I can remember a Stern game that has such a fundamental difference between Pro and PreLe. Maybe Munsters.

This game lives and dies based on how well the PreLe projector works, and how much effort is put into coding it.

The game was designed around the projector. The layout is deliberately vanilla to allow for the projection. The layout is simple, it works, you know where all the shots are - needs to be so you can shoot it in the dark . The layout is designed around static flat surfaces to project on to.

So you take the projector away and you’re left with a vanilla layout and that’s it.

Still can’t believe they didn’t leave the magneto ball lock on the Pro.

Critique of a $6000-$9000 toy isn’t “hate”. It’s normal discussion that should take place when deciding whether a $6000+ toy is worth purchasing.

#2442 4 years ago

Watching the stream and I get a Star Wars feel about this game. And that's not a good thing.

#2443 4 years ago

Any links to the previously streamed videos? I'm sure they were posted but I have a lot of catching up to do.

#2444 4 years ago

I wonder how hard it would be to install your own projector into a pro, and run the Premium/LE code?

#2445 4 years ago
Quoted from Rarehero:

No Rarehero , everything has to be binary today. People are assaulted with too much information so need to make a black and white judgement instantly. You’re either a hater or a fanboy.

#2446 4 years ago
Quoted from JodyG:

I wonder how hard it would be to install your own projector into a pro, and run the Premium/LE code?

I don’t think it would be possible - but even if the code worked, the game wouldn’t know what to do with the different magnet lock.
