I’m in, 6 months from now these things will be 1k on eBay. This is Licensed Star Wars, and original trilogy, it will only get better with age, no matter how many people hate it. Will look amazing on my CE. People said the same thing about Ghostbuster topper, but I’m still getting asked if I will sell mine.

Received it in the mail today. The base is metal and fairly substantial.

Sorry no gameplay vid. Gotta go to work and pay the second mortgage I took out to get this.

#528 4 years ago

Alright, full disclosure, I haven’t posted a video yet because I received it with what appears to be a bad motor. I’m working with Stern to get it resolved. It may be something simple on my end I have to fix. We are still working on it.

I did have to go to work that day but was hoping someone else would have posted a video by now. Anyway, I will post multiple angle pics, and I do like how it looks.

Yes I know, you pay this much money for something you shouldn’t have problems like this. I get it. I’m hoping mine is a singular experience. Stern has always been amazing with their customer service with me. I truly believe they will remedy the issue. It also helps I live only about 40 min away from them.

He lights up, beeps and rotated. I don’t see a projector.

Quoted from kermit24:

Your topper is different than the one in the video and the stock Stern photo. The red light in the front of R2 is lit, the cone is in the front instead of an exposed screw. The other thing I noticed is this in the back. Probably nothing, but almost looks like a light or something:[quoted image]

The green light does light up, I had it off because the side LEDs are so bright.

Quoted from konghusker:

What exactly does it do? Does he bounce around at all? Any projections? Does it make sounds?
I'm really wanting a premium comic edition, but IMO the topper doesn't match the comic art at all. Looks out of place. Would probably look great on the LE, but not sure about the comic edition. Either way, it's still cool. Thanks for the pics.

He makes multiple sounds, lights up, and rotates. I haven’t played a game with him because the limit switches aren’t working and I don’t want to do any damage to it. So he may do more but I don’t know yet. As far as I can tell there is no projector.

It’s definitely mounted correctly. The wires come out of the baseplate of the topper where the plaque is and has to match up with the hole in the box. The grill in the front, I believe it’s a speaker grill. It does make R2D2 noises it’s not super loud but definitely can be heard. Yes if left alone he does some attract noises.

Quoted from Psw757:Forgot to ask, how did you get it so early?

The moment I saw it I wanted it. Discussed with wife the price. Guess what I got for my Christmas present this year? Anyway, ordered it from GAP and I only live about an hour from Chicago so I got it fast.

Also because of the switch issue, I tried to play it but it was, let’s just say distracting, with the motor noise. Anyway it does operate a lot during gameplay. There are circuit boards throughout the inside back so I’m sure it does more.

So, I fixed my topper. It was simple but something I was worried about doing after paying so much. I will post more extensive gameplay video now that I can, but it will have to wait until tomorrow morning. I will also post a video of the issue I had and what I did to fix it. I was wrong, there is no speaker in the front, it beeps through the pin speakers.

BTW pinside inverted those pics I didn’t take them that way.

Well since a game play vid was posted, I won’t add another one. I will show what happened when I received mine.

Quoted from Dr-pin:

Much talk about what it can Do.
According to the noice, it can probably smoke, if you leave it on for a couple of minutes.
Quality stuff for sure. I bet you the parts goes for around 10$ in your not so local chinese radioschack.

Actually it was pretty sturdy, probably one of the most sturdy toppers I’ve had. (Have about 5). I fixed it by turning it past the stop to the right. It worked perfectly afterwords. I can only assume it was turned when packed.

many thanks for the detailed pictures !! Maybe someone can show some under R2....?

The bottom is a flat plate with holes drilled for the back box screw locations
