ha! i feel your pain...i sold my Cyclone pinball bc the missus hates clowns. silver lining though...i used it in a trade toward my gotg and star wars pro pins...which is why im here waiting for my tropper w/ the topper troll
The Stern Star Wars topper will be an old pinball legend one day. Some people will say they have seen it and that Stern plans to release it after Disney completes their decade long approval process. Others will say they have one and that Stern only released it to a select few who submitted a video stating why they were worthy enough to spend $1k on it.
Quoted from TheLaw:Guys Sunday is only a few days away...
Yes, I read somewhere that it will be unveiled on Sunday, September 9th. Can't wait, lol.
Quoted from Zavadoza:R2D2 Topper ...and IMDN as well.
He moves his head left and right and makes sounds.

"wheres the beef?"
Not sure what to think yet. Looks detailed but is a bit on the smaller size for a topper. I'm guessing it will be $500...The base of the thing doesn't look that great and should have been the top section of the X-Wing that R2 sits in.
Looks pretty lame, not a shock.
I'd say it's a little anti-climactic but it would be impossible not to be at this point.

I'll give Stern this, at least it's not another topper that just plasters the name or logo of the theme that's already on the backglass or playfield. Those have always seemed kinda like a waste as they are replicating something already on the game. This is something unique and it actually interacts with the game.
George Gomez said they will start selling it as soon as they can. Sounds like it's still waiting approval (as we've known for a while).
I cut off the sounds at the end. Sorry. R2 makes sounds in attract mode and during the game.
Nothing projected that I could see. but a white light around his base and lights on his head.

Thanks for posting the video! Notice any other lights going off in the dome or is just the 1 green light?
Any rumors on cost yet? I wish that box he's sitting on looked more like an X-Wing Fighter. But I guess this probably already costs $500 minimum?
Quoted from PanzerFreak:Thanks for posting the video! Notice any other lights going off in the dome or is just the 1 green light?
Definitely his red round light and possibly a white one? Sorry, I'm not a SW officianado. But it looks like it has his standard 2 lights on the dome.
So there are the standard R2 lights and sounds? That's at least nice. His movements are a little herky jerky but I suppose that is what you get with what is probably pinball parts inside and not necessarily something custom built to achieve realism as a prop reproduction.
If I had my druthers, I would have just had a complete R2 in the same scale with no base at all, even if the dome just did the same things it does now.

I don't have the pin but I would be pretty disappointed with that. The movement and the base are terrible, very underwhelming.
I like it, was about what I was expecting. But then I wasn't expecting much from something designed to sit on top of a pinball machine. It's R2D2. His head rotates, and he beeps (which is about 90% of what he does in the movies). What do people expect? 3D hologram projection system that projects Leia on top of the pinball glass saying "Help me pinball player, you're my only hope!"? Not that that wouldn't be awesome.
Trying to figure out what about that topper possibly could take soooooo long for approval. It looks extremely basic Imo. Does it at least bounce? No hologram like the settings hinted? For $150 at Target you can get a fully functional r2 that does produce images on walls. This isn't the Droid I was looking for.
My expectations were much higher. If that's it, I'll just build my own. It shouldn't cost more than $50 in parts to duplicate what that video shows.
Very underwhelming.
I pictured R2 on top of a X wing from behind. Kinda imagined the wings of an X wing that would open in multiball
Quoted from Moortus:My expectations were much higher.
What were you expecting?
Personally I thought it would be an X-Wing. So it's R2D2.

Knock yourself out.
Maybe it’s like Whack A Mole - comes with a rubber mallet and u reach up and Whack it when it pops up for bonus points. 40x Whack A R2 Bonus wooo hoo!!
$500 and 1 year waiting approval for that? Just about every R2D2 toy does more and looks better. EPIC FAIL!
Quoted from kermit24:Are those slots below R2 a speaker?
YES!!! Possibly for some super awesome add ons or upgrades in the future?!?!?!?!
Or maybe just heat vents like everything else electronic.

Don’t be silly. Those are droid testical cooling vents to keep the bearings chilled. Duh!

I thought there would be more of R2's body and the base would look like a battle worn xwing. Something like these images.

Yes they are vents for Levi’s hot air.
The R2-D2 looks fine but the base looks like absolute shit. Wtf!
They couldn’t even put some art on it or Star Wars logo? What a joke.
Quoted from Oneangrymo:can't decide if I want this topper or just display my Star Wars puzzle box with han solo penis finger.... hmm....

That puzzle box has some serious dimples!
