I wanted to post this up here as several have asked if the Pin Stadium lighting system works with the Light Saber Dual mode. This video is a good walkthrough of what it will do for your Star Wars.

This game was in the Tilt Amusements/Stern sponsored tournament at the Chicago Expo last weekend. Gameplay was enhanced dramatically along with playfield visibility as you will see. The Light Saber Dual mode is even better now with the GI module and UV+Glow flasher options.

If you have any questions please email me at [email protected]

Quoted from ChipScott:

That's really a nice effect! Thanks for making the video. Very cool.
I saw the spotlight for that product on the expo footage last week...super stuff. You mentioned the pinstadium product could be installed when mirror blades are already in place, is that correct? Also, I remember you touching on the subject, but how easy was it to install with the new Spike 2 boards? Additionally, on that video footage you just posted, was that speaker lighting reflection, and is that a separate install from the otherwise standard pinstadium lighting package? Again, really neat product...im certainly interested.

I'm glad that you enjoyed the video! Yes they are mirror blade compatible also. We just launched officially at Expo last weekend and they were a big hit. The speaker lighting is a mod that someone had installed on the game already and is not part of the Pin Stadium kit.

The Pin Stadium lighting system is an easy plug and play install for the all versions of most any major manufacturer. For Star Wars in this example for the Spike 2 system the install is super simple too!

There is an adapter that you plug into in the back box.

It really changed this game and enhances the light show more than the videos can show. A Stern rep even stopped by this machine in the tournament area at the Expo and they said that they were very impressed.

I saw your email too, and will reply back to you there. Thanks.

Quoted from MattS:

And this game is still awesome!
A friend came over last night, we played nothing but SW, has a strong "one more game" appeal

Agreed! This game had speed like that of Iron Man and shots like ST and then it's own flavor. Surely a player's game for sure and really puts to the test your ball control ability as you have to get it tamed once that first Hyperspace loop gets hit. Very impressed !

How do stadium lights work in modes like lightsaber battle, where the lighting is intentionally low for the saber effect? do they wash out the light show, or interact with it?

Here is a video that shows the compete walkthrough of the Pin Stadium lighting kit in action on SW Premium. At about :55 in you will see the recommended GI Module option syncing with the Light Saber Duel mode (works with all the other modes to). It's really cinematic and theatrical, and takes this game to a whole new level.

Install time for this is about 10-15 minutes (very simple) and it's plug and play.

The speaker lights in the video are from http://www.speakerlightkits.com They will be available for Star Wars, Aerosmith and Batman 66 soon. Here is a picture of the same game (with more promo stickers) when it was at Expo.
Doug (SpeakerLightKits.com)

Yes these are on the Star Wars machine in the video and they are very impressive speaker lights!

You are more than welcome and thank you for your order. I'm excited for you to get these in your hands and installed on your machine.

Please post pictures and video up here when you get them that would be awesome.

Quoted from RobKnapp:

This is where STERN did it right on there STARWARS (3) model platform tier . They finely added choreographed GI LED lighting on The PRO/Prem/LE . And they also added all the same playfield RGB color changing inserts on all models.

Yes very much agreed that the light show was very well done with this machine!!

How cool would it be if someone made power blades with the lasers from x-wings and tie fighters light up?

That's would be a great idea and look amazing!

Quoted from DylanFan71:

Thanks for the tip. I was at 7 degrees. The first game after lowering the rear legs scored almost 600 million and made the Death Star from both flippers. Thanks again.

That is a great tip! That little bit of difference makes a huge change apparently.

Just unpacked mine, plugged it in, then played a few games and walked away to take care of a few things. While in attract mode, the fan started whirring loudly for a minute or so, then stopped. I've heard it do this twice now. Is this normal? This is my first Stern, so I'm not sure if this is expected. A little worried now.

It's a really good sign that you are hearing this as the newer Sterns have a built in sensor that reads the board temps. When they get to a certain temperature the fans are turned on and expel the hot air away from them and out of the cabinet. It's like your csr's thermostats and when the fans turn on even after you park the car.

If you don't hear them ever kick in on your Stern then this should be of concern. Congrats on your new game, it's an amazing pinball machine!

Quoted from Kobaja:

Some days ago I analyzed this, when looking at replacing the fan because of the noise. The stock configuration I recorded a few times with the audio recorder and compared. you can see that after switchng the pinball on, the fan will fire up for the first time after about 25-30 minutes, run for 80 seconds and make a pause of 640 seconds. annoying but normal, see attached photo. The fan noise is the regular smaller blocks in the image.
I ended up replacing it with a 60mm fan, using a custom 3d printed 40 to 60 mm fan adapter and a fan that would deliver the same volume of air with less rpm. Now it's absolutely silent.
If you're in Europe, I can provide the fan adapter part.

Wow that is impressive that you were able to get the fan noise eliminated. I have a 3D printer too.

Congrats! Love the MM, LOTR and SW combo.
And stay here for SW info. Don't even bother getting into other threads that mention the pin or Stern in general for that matter. A lot of folks think complaining means you love pinball. I don't believe that.
SW is different and super fun. I can't stop playing it like all my other friends who own it. Love it!
You are in a safe place.

Agreed! SW is an amazing game and there is no reason not to love it.

Quoted from JeffF:

This weekend I worked on our SW Pro a bit by adding a Star Destroyer, two Tie Fighters, and three X-Wings. I think it filled out the playfield nicley and they really look like they are an extension of the back artwork IMHO.
Also added a lockbar plate I picked up from kapsreiter here and it looks great. Thanks again dude!

That’s looks so awesome. It really does look like they are in action on the machine relative to the backboard graphics. Excellent!!

LE Owner here. I completely agree I played it again today and said to myself this is definitely been under-rated by many here on pinside, maybe thats a good thing! The more I play it, the more i understand it the better it gets. It immerses me completely into the game. As well with some very tough shots its making me a better player, on every other machine I own as well.

I’m with you both too. There’s tons to do and it’s very challenging which deserves a solid place in a home collection. I could not imagine never playing this before and then going out to play it on route somewhere and not spending tons of money on it. For the 1st reason it’s hard hitting and it really makes you tune your skills, and for the 2nd there is so much to do/learn that you could never get enough progress.

I also thoroughly agree that this game makes you a better player for other pinballs due to its challenging shots. It really goes to show that we should never judge until we play and never listen to anyone but yourself because this game should get nothing but 5 stars all day long.

Plus it’s so fun to watch someone else play because you get to see all kinds of great footage that you never realized was there because it’s so intense when playing it’s hard to raise your eyeballs off of the playfield.

Joined the club last night! What a fast game right out the box. First time I had the whole family in the game room playing. Unboxed it and set it up by 8 and went to bed at 1. Had to get it for a project at work so I have it till mid January and will get it back after week on the road. (Hope they take care of it).

Congratulations on your wise purchase. It’s a great Pin!!

Question for you: what flasher colour did you choose (if any at all)?
Thanks!

I checked and he has the UV+Glow flasher option color with the GI module.

Just finished an 8 hour 500 mile round trip for LE #235! Now its time to get it in, setup and have a beer.

It will be more than well worth the drive. Congrats!!

Found the issue! Bad crimp on one of the 5v plugs. Pushed it back down, secured, working again. Will keep an eye on it and see if it goes out again.

Great glad you found it!!
