Just need an R2 topper and I think I am done upgrading/modding the game. Stern..any time...whenever you’re ready...any second now.

420 Tiefighters?????? Damn......

No, not really...the game is set to play easier for the kids. Outlanes are brought in, etc. I like that with these new games you can tweak away and make it as hard or easy as you like. That’s why I don’t post scores...too much variation in how the game is set up.

Noticed an LED not lighting on my Death Star on my Premium. Anyone troubleshoot the Death Star lights before? Haven’t opened it up yet. Trying to determine if it is worth it to worry about it.

Quoted from pauloz:

Wish mine looked like that. The one I got was terrible.

Mine too...never did put it on. I can probably buff it but don’t have the time. Kept the plastic one for now that I had purchased before I got my hands on one.

Quoted from konghusker:

Curious on owners opinions at this point. Debating between SW premium vs jjp potc. Are you guys still enjoying this game enough to hold long term? Is code exciting and deep enough for holding? Are machines holding up? I read that wizard modes still need work, or are missing something. Opinions about overall machine ownership please. Thanks guys.

I have both. Star Wars makes you a better player. Really tough but makeable shots. Great theme integration. I have had a node board fall apart on me. I have also had the Death Star LEDs fail. This is a very fun and challenging game that you won’t get tired of quickly since it is so challenging. Destroying the Death Star is very doable. Battling the Emporer is a stretch that is doable.

JJP POTC is just fantastic. Not from a movie integration perspective but a very good general pirates theme. Shots flow way more smoothly. Non-pinball players like POTC better than SW Premium. However I have had a lot of issues with the first run POTC. Others are saying the more recently manufactured ones are better. See the POTC thread for more.

The cost difference is significant though. I don’t think you will be disappointed either way. If I could only have one, I would go JJP POTC but hold off until the new year when they get the kinks worked out. If you want to become a better player, go SW. If you like the theme better, go SW. If you want a deep game that will take you forever to master, POTC.

Quoted from konghusker:

Thanks. Great to hear from you having both. Is either one more easily understandable for non pinball people to get? Both seem a bit confusing especially potc.

LOL...POTC is so over the top. Starting a multi ball is easy enough. But regular people get confused on the rules very quickly the more I go into it.

SW is a bit easier to understand as there are less shots.

Having said that, one of the quotes from POTC at Pincinnati was “I have no idea what I am doing, but man it is fun”

People were able to load the Black Pearl canon and fire it into the British ship. They were able to lock balls into the chest and start a multi ball. All without really understanding the rules.

Goodbye white T-molding. Was just never a fan and looked out of place in the lineup.

Quoted from snaroff:

The white doesn't bother me, but that does look better. Might even look better on an LE with the shiny black armor (the model I have).
Where did you purchase it? Easy to install?
snaroff

Amazon with Prime shipping. Really easy install. Stock one is not glued in or anything. Pulls out from the bottom. Copy the cuts into the middle section to bend around the corner. And use a rubber mallet to bang the new one in. Took me 20 minutes. The t-molding I got is shiny black and has a slightly shorter middle tab. Looking back I should have probably grabbed the matte one. But still looks great and worked just fine. No concerns with it coming out.

Finally defeated the emperor! That was epic! Thanks to all on the strategy, I had to get EFBF first and then go after everything else. That light show is absolutely amazing. As good as killing Smaug only way more tiring.

#6471 5 years ago

So I put in some new Kicker 4 Ohm speakers today. Surprised that they sound significantly better when set to 8 ohm in the settings versus 4 ohm. Better highs and sounds fuller. Had to set the treble way up at 4 ohms. Why would this be and is there danger playing at the 8 ohm setting?

Quoted from Tuna_Delight:

Word on the street is Stern is saving this until the vault edition.
Yet ANOTHER reason to get a SW now!

I have been modifying the audio on my SW premium. Was starting to look at the video assets too in order to see if I can replace some of the Yoda end ball comments for some variety. I am SO putting in the worst Jar Jar moments for the ball drain. You think Yoda got annoying! How wude...over and over again!

#6541 5 years ago

Going through the video to replace some of the Yoda end of ball sequences and came across a random picture in the assets. Anyone know the story?

Is this what you are looking for? Just did a test on the Death Star Run ...

Holy cow...I replaced the scores with real music from the movies but didn’t touch these. Takes it to another level when you can actually hear it.

Quoted from John_I:

I finally was able to get my light saber side rails back lit. The color is not perfect but I think they look awesome now.[quoted image][quoted image]

Ok...that is pretty cool. Thought I was done modding out my SW, guess I was wrong. Lol. So did you cut that out yourself?

#7505 4 years ago
Quoted from John_I:

The rails are obviously the Stern official mod:
https://pinside.com/pinball/market/shops/1092-great-american-pinball/02061-star-wars-side-armor-official-stern
I was able to get Hooked on Pinball to sell me the lighting kit. This was not a ready to go kit like with the LE. I had to do some custom cutting to leave the original backing behind the saber handle and just have the lit portion on the saber part itself. I also bought some theater gel material in red and blue to add the color and carefully cut and taped it over the EL panel to tint the light. One other key thing that is needed regardless of whether you backlight is to highlight the saber handles with a white paint pen so they stand out better. As they come from Stern, these side rails are basically a fail. With a little work they look awesome as heck. Here is the post with before and after on the white paint pen mod:
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/stern-star-wars-clubmay-the-force-be-with-you/page/81#post-4321453

Ah so is the blade not cut out and the EL paper in on top?

#7507 4 years ago
Quoted from John_I:

No it's all laser cut. Replaced the original white backing on the blade portion with EL

Ah, didn’t realize the stock one had a cutout. A set is magically on the way.

Quoted from deadghosty:

Hey guys, just picked this game up a few days ago, how ever slight problem. My escape bar on the right outside near the bottom right seems to be malfunctioning. The bar will stay down even though escape is not lit and sometimes it doesn't go all the way down or is only halfway down. I attached a picture of of the piece.
[quoted image]

Make sure the screw holding the gate in at the top is tight. Mine would come lose every now and then.

#7684 4 years ago
Quoted from marksf123:

If it is not happening then it would be good for Stern to just come clean and come out and say it so we can go another direction for a topper.

Agreed, I have been planning a screen accurate lightsaber that lights up and clashes with the pop bumpers but am not going to pull the trigger if there is an R2 coming out that is integrated. Tried my hand at an R2 and just not sure how to integrate as well.

Found some EL tape on eBay that is just about the right width and is not pink when you turn it off. What do you think?

Please tell me Disney didn’t actually approve that as the final did they? It isn’t even close to accurate.

Added in some under cabinet lighting. Easy mod. Couldn’t decide if I wanted red or white.

Does anybody have a photo of the lightsaber armor installed? These seems kinda cool but at the same time they block a lot of the cabinet art.

Not stock, but gives you an idea.

Quoted from F-2NIRO:

Good job, it's better to illuminate in red the left side ( vader's handle )

Except they don't make EL tape that wide and long in Red that I have found.

#11660 2 years ago
Quoted from Ashram56:

For that matter, I'd be curious to know where you found the EL tape you used.
Also, the inverter used for EL panels tend to emit a high pitched noise which is really bothersome. Did you find an alternate higher quality inverter?
Cheers

No, the high pitch is the annoying part that I still have not eliminated.

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/132328647953. You can find the same seller on the regular ebay site. But yeah, high pitched with the inverter that comes with it.
