I also have stacking off on principle. I like to play one scene at a time, I realize that pinball is not a one to one relation to how I watch a movie or read a book for example but I like to have a semblance of order not having 2-3 scenes playing at once just for the sake of completing more missions more efficiently.

I agree. I have basic pinball skills so don't expect to beat the wizard mode easily, but I feel like it should eventually be attainable if I'm having a great game.
Given that the game was designed to have modes stacked (and quicker progression), I don't feel guilty setting it up for 5 ball play to give me more time to get through missions with stacking turned off.

Guilt feelings or not it's my game so I can set it for 10 ball play if I want, but at least I don't feel like 5 balls is "cheating"

I've broken through a billion a few times (1.6 is my highest). I just can't seem to beat any of the mini-wizard modes. I even stacked tie fighter multiball a couple of times and still failed. I can't imagine battling and defeating the Emporer at this point.

You don’t need to “beat” the planet wizard modes to qualify to battle the Emperor. Just start them. The key is to not have a simultaneous drain event during the multiball. “Everybody out of the pool”

Try keeping one ball under control (trapped) during the multiball. This allows you to be more accurate with your shooting.

That’s a good idea. I don’t care for 5 ball games but maybe I’ll add a more easy to earn extra ball that will kick in at 500 M or something so I’ll get more progression when I have a good game going.

I have mine on but never select a stacked mission. I suppose if a guest wants to, the option is still there. You really don't need to disable it, since the selection is still optional.

Good to know. That means I have a chance!

Actually, I felt like the Emperor was easier than death star and hoth Multiballs, to be honest. Hard as hell to get to though.

#8307 4 years ago

If you are playing as R2, good luck getting to the Emperor. With R2, Jedi Training is never lit as a plunge award, so you have to get Jedi Master the hard way for the most part. Luke and Leia will have Jedi Training lit to advance easier to Jedi Master. If I am trying for Emperor, I will usually pick Luke for this reason.

#8308 4 years ago

Everybody sets up his game the way he wants of course.
With mode stacking I would start 2 modes and then bring in hyperspace MB or tie fighter MB for a guaranteed mode finish.

This way it got a little too easy on the modes for me.

I completed the game as Han, but still not sure on all differences the choice of character brings with it.

Well that’s my best game ever. Fought the emperor as Luke and then almost got back there again as R2D2. This really is a masterpiece game. Fast smooth shots, amazing depth of code and epic theme integration. Now I just need my topper...

Has anyone installed the Hallmark x-wing that can comment on scale? Looks nice with the weathered finish, more accurate example.

This thread has disappeared from my forum list even though I’ve posted in it today and have it marked as a favorite. I don’t show it as drained in my settings either, any ideas what’s going on?

I'm getting a Comic edition Pro this weekend, where do you get the mounting hardware and what type of X-Wings are those? Love to add 1-2 X-Wings and the Millennium Falcon to it. Speaking of which, are there any places making a good, lit Millennium Falcon like the Premium one still?

Thanks!

This is just a fabrication method I came up with. The mounts are actually copper lugs bought in the electronics aisle of Home Depot. I use automotive touch up paint and clear to paint the copper lug. The wire is actually a zinc plated sign wire (also home depot - see attached photo) that has very good strength and remains bendable with enough force from pliars but remains rigid and doesn't jiggle at all...I flat grinded the ends on a bench grinder and then glued them in the models stand attachment point (almost a perfect fit without glue) and let set for 24 hours...The X models are from Hot Wheels https://www.amazon.com/Hot-Wheels-Starship-Fighter-Vehicle/dp/B00MK0Z66G/ref=sr_1_4 although the one in the back is a Mezel Mod version with a

3D printed diverter cover/mount https://mezelmods.com/collections/star-wars-stern/products/star-wars-pinball-x-wing-fighter-toy.

They also can a Millennium Falcon for the Pro on Mezel mods https://mezelmods.com/collections/star-wars-stern/products/star-wars-pinball-pro-millennium-falcon

Thanks for the tips, think I'm going to use either Black Series or HW X-Wings, need to see the scale once I get the pin home.

You can click the email on the sales page to notify you when they have one in stock...I'm guessing it's popular again because of the Comic Star Wars...Mezel is great...

I’m with you. Stacking off is the way to play this game. So much more immersive to the theme.

Watched a deadflip stream of the home version and it has tons more video clips in it than our games. Would be nice to have a code update to involve some of that other video and polish this great game some more.

What clips specifically are you seeing that are not in the Pro / Premium games? I find that very hard to believe. Remember there are two LCDs so the mini one also displays content, often during the planet multiballs.

Agreed...I think the difference is the videos in the regular version are deeper into the code of the game so they aren’t seen as often but in the home edition they just let them play so to speak.

#8321 4 years ago

Yes there are more scenes, I've scene numerous from return of the Jedi, space battles scenes, more speeder bikes, more call outs.. but it is a different game without mode selection like the upper models... Would love to get some of those scenes but honestly don't know where they could squeeze them in outside of rotating them with similar contexted scenes..

I'm really hoping for another code update, also to add more variety to ball drains.. I want to punch Yoda

Just skimmed through this for about 20 minutes and there definitely seems to be some additional clips that are integrated into gameplay as well as some more c-3po chatter.

Is it possible that these clips could be from the huge selection of attract mode clips on the standard machines? Does the home machine have an attract mode? There was definitely some cool stuff I’ve never seen before.

Thanks for sharing. Looks like the game just plays clips continuously instead of only during modes. The game itself is a continuous mode and stuff just gets started on top of it. For sure a different thought process on game progression and rules design. The clips look much better on the stream than in real life since he is directly capturing the video. I think this game has a 5.5" smartphone size screen.

As far as end of ball sequences / callouts on our game, I agree it would be nice to have more variety.

Yeah, I know ...I was trying to come up with the best way to show it... I'm going with the... Just took off from a platform loading some captured bounties and getting ready to go after Han... Good eye most people wouldn't catch that

I bought the SW Comic Premium and it has been set up for about three weeks and has almost 500 plays on it already. Really interesting to read all of the comments since this game came out. Here are my thoughts:

1. In my opinion, the premium is significantly more interesting than the pro. Not only is the hyper loop the best toy on any pin IMO, but the fact that the shot is so difficult really makes it much more interesting... and more satisfying when you hit it. Can’t imagine the game without it.

2. I got the game level and at 6.5 and narrowed the outlines to the easiest setting and it played amazing for 2+ weeks. No signs of any of the complaints I had read about. Then I waxed the PF and re-leveled, and for whatever reason, it played like garbage afterward. SDTM drains from the inner loops (both directions), SDTM from the scoop. I HATED it. After “hours” of adjusting the leg heights and scoop power I learned two things. The first is that a few turns on the nut in just one leg makes a huge difference in how this game plays, and secondly, it explains why some people love this pin and some hate it. I was really questioning how anyone couldn’t love this game for the first two weeks, then I found out. It’s been said many times, but setup on this pin is critical. When set up well, I’d give it 10/10. When not, 2/10.

3. Now that I have some time on this machine, I keep a wrench nearby and if it starts to drain SDTM, I know it just needs a slight adjustment of just one or two complete turns to get the pitch and level just right. Not really tough now that I know what to look for and how to fix it.

4. Did I mention the hyper-loop. Amazing!!!

5. I love that you have to hit DIFFERENT shots on this pin depending on the mission. Too many pins have that one big shot that really gets boring after a few plays. SW doesn’t have that. Even the Death Star shot has variety depending on the mode and whether the fork is up or not. Love it!

6. I added a shaker (set to minimal) and I think it makes a huge difference. Hitting the Tie Fighter is really satisfying with the shaker, and meh, without it. That alone makes the shaker a must-have with this pin IMO.

7. The music and call outs are awesome. I don’t tire of it at all and it brings back great memories of seeing the films when I was a kid. Not often mentioned, but the lighting is absolutely awesome on this game. Great variety too, with lightsaber battle and escape from Boba Fett having a totally different look and feel than others modes.

8. I also like the variety of the multi-ball modes. Tie Fighter MB is fairly easy to unlock and has 3 balls. The 4 different mission final modes each have 2 balls, which is cool and different. Then the Hyperspace MB is on a totally different level with anywhere from 2-6 balls at once. Victory MB has 4 balls, and Jedi Master MB has 6. Really keeps things fresh.

9. I also think this pin makes great use of the center smash button for shooting Toe Fighters when lit. Great risk-reward feature and also fun for someone else to hit if they are watching you play.

10. One thing I wish they would improve is the use of the mini-LCD screen. Other than the initial skill-shot plunge, that screen is pretty pointless. I wish they would find better uses for it through a code update.

This is by far my favorite modern pin, and if set up correctly (and a premium), I can’t imagine anyone thinking it is less than a 9/10. For me, it’s a 10/10!

Can you elaborate on what ‘using them correctly’ entailes? I am still figuring this game out.. haven’t gotten too far, don’t usually move them around much yet

Quoted from Mbecker:

Hitting the stand up targets increases your shot multiplier, the drop targets and mystery shot can double it also. I mostly use it during multiball since the auto launcher it hitting the stand up targets repeatably. You move the shot multiplier around by pressing the lock down bar button, flipper button to where you want it and then lock down bar button again to lock it in again. The higher the multiplier gets the less shots are available. You have to hit the stand up targets when the shot multipliers start to flash or your accumulated multiplier will reset.

Totally agree, that screen is underused. It should be doubled up with what shots you have left in modes.

Yeah Star Wars premium is a masterpiece at all levels. In the top 100 this game is position 40, a real shame for the community. It completely destroy titles like TZ CV LOTR AF DI Wizard of Oz FH Hobbit and etc ...
Tons of early ignorants haters rate this game very low at the beginning but after tons of great reviews from persons who really have the chance to learn and go deeper in this game.

Pinside rating system is a complete farce and no one should give it any heed. It is a rating system built on the false notion of popularity of old games versus the new games. Old games always rate higher, because people remember them from their childhood. New games get hammered and don’t stand a chance, because so many give low scores, unless they own them, to keep their golden child high in the ratings. No rhyme or reason to the rating system. Only the comments sections have some value, imo. Star Wars should be in the top 5 and yet ranks 40.

The only real barometer for any rating system is sales numbers and that we will never know, unless a company goes out of business. And I bet SW has sold more than all of them, by far. Biggest franchise in the business.

I agree and don't want to go into the list of pins that are rated above it. I realize that ratings are personal and not everyone likes the same thing but I do agree that if you like fast, toys, rules, great theme it's got it all. But come on, sword of Rage (Wonka, The Hobbit, Elvira, TBL?) are rated higher than SW?

I agree that the ratings don’t accurately describe how good this game is. Have all the club members rated this game? I hope so. On other owner (JJP) threads, they have no shame in asking fellow owners to pump the game in the ratings. Not asking for that, but I think all SW owners should at least rate the game to give it a fair shake.

Outstanding mods ! .... I’ll be adding ships (thanks for the ideas) and a better sound system soon ... and I agree on the ranking of this game ... it’s a blast to play , never gets boring , always a challenge... but #40 ? No way . I’ll give it time , once it’s not available anymore NIB , this will definitely be a classic and rarity . I will never trade/sell this diamond.

Maybe people rating the comic version of the game will give a more accurate reflection on how the game plays in its current code and with people understanding the importance of proper setup.

Will be interesting to see how it rates versus the prior versions...

These really should be lumped in with the others for the rating, it’s the same game with different art. Easily a top 20 game in my opinion.

Absolutely. It’s a variant of the same game. robin can you help with this? Star Wars Comic is another game variant vs a new game.

What about people who rated the game badly because of the art though?

Don’t think art alone can tank a rating and based on most of the reviews I’ve read that wasn’t the reason for low rating.

I had a pretty good video mode score tonight.

I think this game is officially the most addictive game I've ever owned!
