Quoted from TheLaw:

Oh I'm sure it happens, but I'm not interested in the new player angle at all.

New Star Wars players, not new pinball players. We were all new Star Wars players for a few minutes before checking our bank accounts and placing an order...

#6102 5 years ago

Yep, games are confusing until you play them a lot and learn the rules.

#6103 5 years ago

Besides the flashing arrows, you can also check the monitor, it explains what to do in each mission.

Quoted from Hoochoo:

Here's my update to the sticky post "Summary of shots needed for modes." (I'm unable to edit the original post)
Newly Added:
DS4: Destroy the Death Star
H4: Escape from Hoth
T4: Escape from Tatooine
E4: Battle above Endor
Lightsaber Duel
Combos & Escape from Boba Fett Activation
Escape from Boba Fett
Defeat the Emperor (Jedi Multiball)
Also added:
Icons for: Points, Hurry-Ups, Adding Time and Non Compulsory Shots that can be timed-out.
Note: Much of this was tested on a SW Premium using Code 1.03 and should be 100% compatible with the current latest code (1.05). All shots are compatible with the Pro model; just ignore the Fork Ramp icon (||) for the Left Loop shots. If you find any errors please point them out I'll do my best to update the post ASAP.
Click of the images below to view them in their proper resolution.

THANK YOU! This is very well done and very helpful.

On the complexity topic, yes - SW has it in spades. Many of my pinball friends think the game is just "OK" until I point out just a couple very basic concepts and strategy ideas - then most of them love the title.

1) Don't just randomly pick a character - each has their pros and cons. Some are super easy to start one or 2 MB every game (Han) - use the PF inserts to help you decide.
2) Don't just randomly pick a mode - use the playfield inserts to pick which one or ones to play to progress towards multiballs
3) Strategy to get to Tie Fighter MB almost every game if you play certain characters

#6106 5 years ago

I most always play four games in one set. One for each "hero." That way I don't get burned out on the game. I've pretty much started to select "Light Tatooine" for my first ball. Tatooine, is the hardest of the four (for me) to get lit. From there I just shoot the lit shots and have fun. Oh, and I have it set on five balls, mission stacking, and ball save and video mode times turned up. I admit I'll never win a tournament, but we have a blast playing our premium. As of now, the right orbit is the shot that I have the most trouble making.

#6107 5 years ago
Quoted from zacaj:

JJP-POTC has 125 modes. Every single one says "shoot these 2-9 shots before the timer runs out". Every one. You don't need to know a thing about it. Star Wars has modes like the speeder chase, luke's duel with vader, shooting shots to light the tie fighter on a timer, building and collecting values, etc. They're way more complex, and many of them you can't_ finish by just shooting lit shots blindly. And they don't time out. Star Wars forces you to know the rules to its modes to progress. Not to mention Hoth MB with all its different stages and requirements.
Most of pinball seems perfectly content with some 'shoot the blinky lights, or just ignore them' modes with no deeper logic as have been found in every other stern save Dwight's last efforts somewhat

Agree, good points. The modes in Star Wars feel substantial as not only are each of the 12 modes unique but all feature licensed actor audio and video. Pirates might as well have 1 chapter mode as without licensed actor audio and video all of them feel the same in my opinion. Pirates does have 5 unique multistage wizard modes thankfully but I still favor the 4 location wizard modes in Star Wars (not to mention the main wizard modes) due to them each having licensed assets. The "pick a pirate" character feature in Pirates does help make up for the shortcomings of the chapter modes as it ends up making them a lot more interesting thanks to the strategies each character offers. The map award system also adds a lot of fun, especially the plundering awards when playing with others.

#6108 5 years ago

I’ll never get there but I would really like there to be a final wizard mode or celebration MB for completing all the characters.

#6109 5 years ago

I dislike the video mode and Light Saber Duel so I have them set at the shortest duration. What I don't like about LSD is that it takes over whether you want to play it or not.

#6110 5 years ago
Quoted from fxdwg:

that chart right there is why my star wars is one of the least played games of my collection... I love the way the machine looks, but no way do I want to think that hard, or have to remember all that stuff. pinball for me is an escape, and should not be more work, or labor intensive... my brain is very tired when I am done working for the day!
although. much cred to HooChoo for making that chart, well done my friend.

Just shoot the colored shot, or the blinking one. It’s not that complicated.

Stern just tweeted that there are some as of yet undiscovered eastereggs on multiple titles which may be triggered by dates and time of day. I haven’t tried it yet, but I wonder if May 4th might be a special day for Star Wars.

One of the Eastereggs is on the new Beatles machine, starting Dec 10 the Beatles wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Got my premium in 2 months ago and loving it. Noticed a few issues with it and didn't know if anyone had any advice. First issue was I was not able to backhand the right ramp. After reading post 4461 here seems my flipper is not aligned with the guide and well below it so going to make that adjustment to hopefully help out there. The other issue is when I make the hyperspace shot the ball comes out the lower ramp to the inlane with such force that sometimes it is going over the hole and over the end of the wire frame onto the play field or it hits the end of the wireframe at the hole and goes back up the wire frameslightly. When getting multiple balls from the hyperspace multiball going, the backing up on the wireframe causes the balls to collide so hard that one gets shot up to the glass. First time it happened, I about had a heart attack as it was so loud that I thought the glass was about to shatter. Any thoughts on any adjustments I can make there. Can post this in a tech thread if needed but figured I'd start here. Thanks.

#6115 5 years ago

Try a diagnostic on the hyper ramp circuit. You can load a couple of balls in it and it should keep them in there. This was a bug in the earlier software. The latest version was supposed to address this issue.

#6116 5 years ago

Battles and defeated the Emperor for the 3rd time last night, but this time in the dark. Boy, the playfield is DARK in that mode. The GI is blue which makes it really dark. Maybe adding some whites or turning the spots on would be better. Anyway, time to adjust the difficulty of the game.

Sometimes my hyperspace loop fires a little hard down the inlane but it never has the momentum to jump the rail. Can you post a few pics of how your wireform is attached?

#6118 5 years ago

Took a few pictures. Can take more if needed; I was in a time crunch tonight and took what I could.

Just picked up a premium. Having a blast playing. Honestly I still don't know what some of the different arrow colors mean, & sometimes they flash between different colors & sometimes solid. I don't know what I'm doing, help!!!

Just in case, so you have the recent code 1.05?

#6121 5 years ago

Yes I have 1.05 installed. The balls have no problem going around the hyper ramp. The only issue is going down the wire form with such force.

#6122 5 years ago

Do you have the solenoid power turned up?

#6123 5 years ago

Curious on owners opinions at this point. Debating between SW premium vs jjp potc. Are you guys still enjoying this game enough to hold long term? Is code exciting and deep enough for holding? Are machines holding up? I read that wizard modes still need work, or are missing something. Opinions about overall machine ownership please. Thanks guys.

#6124 5 years ago
Quoted from konghusker:

Are you guys still enjoying this game

Yes. But, I have a strike against me in that I'm a SW nerd. I have the DE DW pin as well.

#6125 5 years ago

Still loving my SW Premium after 1+ year in house. Physically it's holding up great, and there's plenty to do code-wise. People have requested a super-duper wizard mode after you beat all four characters. I think people that can do that are quite rare so it's unlikely to be something you'll notice unless you're a phenomenal player.

I can't compare to JJP POTC as I've only put a few games on that and only on the prototype. I assume you'd save $2.5k or so going with a HUO SW Premium over a NIB JJP at this point, if that makes a difference.

Yeah, me too. We love SW. Still can't believe I haven't bought this yet. Potc looks awesome though and if toy story comes next, that one could easily be it. Can only get one though. I was concerned about the long term fun factor.

Does make a difference in my decision. I think jjp games are worth more, but I'm not rich, so I need to get a good long term game. I have enjoyed SW when I've played it though.

Get the Star Wars, awesome game and I have the POTC as well. Potc is pretty awesome too but it isn’t 3k more awesome and I’m a Star Wars nut too!

I wonder if you'd do best to pick up a SW Premium HUO now (haven't followed pricing but HUO is generally 15-20% off NIB), then swap it out for a POTC next year when those will probably be a bit cheaper. Plus, one of these games seems to match your decor a bit better

Kind of thought the same thing. Never enough room or money for these things unfortunately. Thanks for input guys. Love to hear owners true opinions. Thanks

#6131 5 years ago

I know Stern takes the heat a lot but all companies take time to get updates going so i ASSUME JJpotc will as well, so might be better to catch up on it later.
SW is a goddamn fun game man, moving the multipliers around is a ton of fun and actually adds something to gameplay. I'm going to have to dump either SW or IMDN at some point and I can tell you SW will not go first

#6132 5 years ago

Mechanically and node boards holding up?

#6133 5 years ago

I've only have 1 node board issue with a Stern and that was GB, others have been fine.
SW hasn't had any issues for me at all (pro).

#6134 5 years ago

You win...

I've had to replace one plastic (right ramp). That's it.

Lol. Good to hear about positive experience with the game. Thanks

#6136 5 years ago

Jjp potc and sw are so different. Hard to compare.

My swle is the best thing ever. Ever. Ever. I go to places with hundred or more pins regularly and end up playing Star Wars there as well.

It's ridiculous. I've owned it since it first came out and can't get get myself to liking anything else.

It's holding up well and continues to challenge. Plus it's hard. So I end up putting high scores on anything else I touch almost instantly

Whatever motivation or plan you have, after buying SW, trust me that plan will be replaced by one where you keep Star Wars. Imho.

Awesome setup! With how big of a fan of the movies you are I would go with Star Wars. I was nearly ready to sell my LE for a POTC but decided to hang onto it as the ruleset, toys and the licensed assets (actor audio / video, clips, and licensed music) make for an incredible pin. Seeing the Death Star and Hyperspace toys in person blew me away after reading some of the initial negative comments on here, both are very substantial toys. I don't think you can go wrong with POTC either, it's an awesome game. I just think if you have a life size Han Solo frozen in carbonite statue that its clear which game you should get

#6138 5 years ago

Good to hear positive reviews. I enjoy the game the few times I've played it. I appreciate the input guys. Thanks

#6139 5 years ago

I have SW pro and love it. Owned about 4 months.

I'm a big jjp fan though.

#6140 5 years ago

Those 2 games are light yrs apart. I love my swle
Have Had it for 9 months months. Still fun and hard as hell. Potc looks cool too. Good luck

#6141 5 years ago

Thanks guys. It's a tough decision. I have a hard time letting go of games, so either way is a long term decision.

#6142 5 years ago

Anytime I want my butt kicked, I will play Star Wars. TSPP is too easy, so I can go back and forth between the two. I am determined to beat this thing!

POTC looks awesome, but I can say for sure that you won't be disappointed with Star Wars. Theme is great, sure, but it has substance... It's fast and brutal, but also deep. Once you learn the table, it is always very clear what you are doing. I love it. It's a permanent pin for me.

#6144 5 years ago

Has anyone had an issue during Hyperspace Multiball where the machine doesn’t eject a 3rd ball after 2 are in the loop?

#6145 5 years ago
Quoted from D-Gottlieb:

Nope haven’t turned up the solenoid. Other issue is I’m getting credit for TIE fighter hits when I hit the left flipper. Doesn’t have to be a ball in play as I can be on the mission select before putting a ball in play and hit the left flipper over and over to get TIE fighter hits.

I have both. Star Wars makes you a better player. Really tough but makeable shots. Great theme integration. I have had a node board fall apart on me. I have also had the Death Star LEDs fail. This is a very fun and challenging game that you won’t get tired of quickly since it is so challenging. Destroying the Death Star is very doable. Battling the Emporer is a stretch that is doable.

JJP POTC is just fantastic. Not from a movie integration perspective but a very good general pirates theme. Shots flow way more smoothly. Non-pinball players like POTC better than SW Premium. However I have had a lot of issues with the first run POTC. Others are saying the more recently manufactured ones are better. See the POTC thread for more.

The cost difference is significant though. I don’t think you will be disappointed either way. If I could only have one, I would go JJP POTC but hold off until the new year when they get the kinks worked out. If you want to become a better player, go SW. If you like the theme better, go SW. If you want a deep game that will take you forever to master, POTC.

Thanks. Great to hear from you having both. Is either one more easily understandable for non pinball people to get? Both seem a bit confusing especially potc.

LOL...POTC is so over the top. Starting a multi ball is easy enough. But regular people get confused on the rules very quickly the more I go into it.

SW is a bit easier to understand as there are less shots.

Having said that, one of the quotes from POTC at Pincinnati was “I have no idea what I am doing, but man it is fun”

People were able to load the Black Pearl canon and fire it into the British ship. They were able to lock balls into the chest and start a multi ball. All without really understanding the rules.

Sounds like a leaf switch for one of the standup targets might be sensitive enough that vibration from the flipper firing is causing the switch to activate ? Put the game in switch test mode and see if any of the targets are overly sensitive?

#6150 5 years ago

So my hyperloop flap that drops the ball to the inlane wireform is getting a little buggy. Occasionally, It doesn’t seem to open enough, resulting in the ball bouncing back or getting stuck in the flap. Has anyone else had this issue? Any suggestions? Thanks
