Quoted from Okarcades:

The playfield is still holding up great Although the decals on the side of the head are really peeling. I'll turn it into stern and see if I can get them covered under warranty

Any word from stern on this?
I don't think I'm having that issue yet, but need to check

#36 8 years ago

hoby1 - no. Others have reported problems. IDK for sure it was ST... but def Metallica and some others.

Quoted from Okarcades:

have not rebuilt the flippers yet they still flip like new. Flipper Power set to low still. Easy backhanding the ramps. No wear around the decals that I have noticed but I didn't look last time. I will check flipper button wear next time I'm there.

Crazy - I had to replace my coil stop on the left flipper. HUO, 3 or 4 TPFs and 1 Houston show.
I'm pretty sure the right flippers need new coil stops too; but they aren't sticking yet.

Quoted from megadeth2600:

The other is sticky flippers ...

This is the coil stop. Replace them.
For whatever reason; the coil stops are crap on Star trek... the brass "inserts" wear extremely fast... which makes the stop on the bracket loose. This leads to plunger damage... which leads to sticky flippers. Also leaves a find brass dust allover the inside of your machine.

The other problem I've had is the white buttons themselves seem to stick. I ended up replacing mine to solve that problem.

Quoted from Okarcades:

Here's a couple shots of the progress tonight. Going quickly and only need to install the ramps and vengeance toy. Should take about 2-3 more hours total. Total time roughly 2 people about 10-12 hours total.

Boo... No popcaps?

Quoted from gunstarhero:

Looks ready for a shop job!

Nah, he's too busy making profit. At best; he'll wipe those rubbers off if he didn't do it after the pictures.
The wear in front of the drop is concerning... Part of me wants to get another cliffy and put it on the front of the drop to protect my LE.

Honestly; the only thing I hate about Star Trek is these damn GI LEDs... Why can't someone make a REAL led replacement with real #555 connector loops so the damn things won't wiggle out of their sockets. I'm always having flickering bulbs in the back in the inlanes and in the front in the flipper return lanes. It's the single biggest flaw with "replacement" LEDs. I swear if Comet, Niffy, or Cointaker could force a market change... they'd earn my business for life.

Quoted from Bruce:

I see yours are clouded. Are they dimmer and do you prefer the look?

My gut tells me he was simply sharing the process... not necessarily implying that specific LED should be used in THIS game.

Quoted from Okarcades:

Easily. I rebuild mine every 10,000 plays or usually right around there. Home use only flippers will hardly ever need to be rebuilt.

IDK; I had to rebuild mine in a home environ well before 10k plays... probably between 1k and 2k.
The stock Stern parts are crap. Those end stops disintegrated well before 10k on mine and left a fine brass dust all inside of my cabinet.
That said; I may have only replaced the endstop and the coil sleeve because that's all that was needed.

Quoted from TheFamilyArcade:

I’m fascinated that the left flipper has been flipped about 600,000 times less than the right. That’s bizarre!

Not as all.
Remember ST has a upper right flipper to shoot the warp ramp. "in theory" it means the right side gets 2x as many flips as the left.

No. ST is not a spike game... I think it's whitestar ... one of the last.

Quoted from CactusJack:

Are you using Stern parts for replacement or some other brand?

The first and only rebuild I did was from PBL. Unsure if they are stern nos or repos.

#394 5 years ago

mine does that somewhat regularly. My fix is always to wiggle the opto connections under the Playfield. it's happened to me about 4 times or usually at a show or on location. this always fix it
