Quoted from Okarcades:

I have never had any problems except the bracket underneath broke. I have a back up ready and waiting for it to break. I can't believe it hasn't yet.

It plays pretty well but doesn't seem as fun as one with less plays. I'm not sure if it's just me or what....
Flippers are strong like new but the game seems dim. Either the lights are dirty or dimming or the plastics are getting dirty. I forsee a shop Job in the near future.

I have seen two ST pros next to each other in the same arcade and one was visibly brighter when compared to the other. It was thought that Stern uses different vendors for lightbulbs, which would account for the variation in one game being brighter than the other.

Quoted from Okarcades:

I was in town and got a call that the right flipper button was broken. Since I didn't have many parts on hand I had to get the ol' soldering iron out and melt it for a ghetto fix. It works awesome though!

@chuckwurt... maybe this is your GoT fix

A new button was my fix. Haha

I got a new button too! After I ordered the right size because I didn't have one in hand

How many plays are we up to now?

#356 6 years ago

I'll be heading over there in a week for an update

The only thing wrong with week was the ghetto bulb fix fell out. I had the metal things to hold them in ordered but I forgot them at home

A few shots of how dirty it is too! It seems to get more black underneath compared to most games but who knows

25,947 Plays and we are Still SUPER satisfied with this game right now. Every thing still works. It is by far the least troublesome game we have. I added some stats from audits page.

Right flipper flipped almost 2.5 million times!!

Only had to wax it and change the sling shot rubbers.

We also noticed that we keep grinding down the plungers when they mushroom and now the plungers are too short and the flippers stick was too high up!

Oh well it still kicks ass!!!

have you not done a full flipper rebuild in all those plays? impressive that it is still rocking if so. That is a ton of flipper hits.

I've rebuilt them twice maybe 3 times. Just new sleeves 3 times and fixed the plungers 2 times and eos switches once. And coil stops twice for sure.

still very interesting to read you (and about this nice ST) in this topic

This is most likely what is causing the game to be dim. The routed Ghostbusters I picked up was like that. Clean on top where you could reach with a rag, but absolutely filthy underneath. Under the playfield, some inserts and/or LEDs themselves were so dirty the light could barely shine through. I pulled boards off the bottom and cleaned everything up under the playfield, it was like a brand new game afterwards. So bright and shiny. Try taking a q-tip to the bottom of a couple of your inserts and be prepared for blackness.

I did that last time it was shopped! It's hard to keep up with it. Next time it breaks really bad we will strip it down and get it all bright again!

27,116 plays now. Holy cow its getting up there!

This thing has taken a serious pounding and totally handled it awesome!

The only thing going wrong this week was the flasher mount broke under the vengeance ship. I always carry spares so it was a quick, easy and cheap fix. Back up and running!

Very encouraging for recent Stern purchasers! How does the game feel when you play it? Does it still feel like it did when you first got it or does it feel like its old and sloppy? Thanks for keeping us updated on this game. This is one of my most favorite threads on Pinside.

#369 6 years ago

How often do you rebuild the flippers?

#370 6 years ago

Great update. Congrats on the earnings. Game is holding up well.

It feels old and sloppy! At least to me it does. But I don't think anyone else feels the same. Once I rebuild the flippers again it will play like new!

I think I'm on my 3rd rebuild so far and it will need it done again soon.

So if a person rebuilt their flippers in a home environment, they should go 5 thousand games maybe and still be pretty strong?

Easily. I rebuild mine every 10,000 plays or usually right around there. Home use only flippers will hardly ever need to be rebuilt.

Thank you for the info. I was curious about that. I have 2 games with nearly 2k plays on them and the flippers still feel strong as ever.

I think 500,000 flipper cycles is the generally accepted rebuild point.

Hard part is keeping count every time you press the flippers dude

agreed and you can check that in audits for anyone curious.

Also, a new sleeve can greatly extend the life of your flippers on route or at home. Gets a bunch of funk out of there and take 30sec to do.

I've seen one with over 150,000 plays on it. And that was 2 years ago.

IDK; I had to rebuild mine in a home environ well before 10k plays... probably between 1k and 2k.
The stock Stern parts are crap. Those end stops disintegrated well before 10k on mine and left a fine brass dust all inside of my cabinet.
That said; I may have only replaced the endstop and the coil sleeve because that's all that was needed.

#383 5 years ago

wow that cliffy is coming apart... pretty cool, thanks for updating.
I had some issues with my warp ramp optos recently, and a few switch adjustments. Yeah, sterns seem to hold up pretty well in general.

#384 5 years ago

Looking through your pics, I’m fascinated that the left flipper has been flipped about 600,000 times less than the right. That’s bizarre!

This is a great thread. How long has this been on route? This has made some nice coin, and no end in site.

Is ST a Spike game?

#385 5 years ago
Quoted from TheFamilyArcade:

Not as all.
Remember ST has a upper right flipper to shoot the warp ramp. "in theory" it means the right side gets 2x as many flips as the left.

No. ST is not a spike game... I think it's whitestar ... one of the last.

#386 5 years ago

Gary Stern ought to give you a free STVE for all this free advertising! Awesome thread.

ST is a SAM game.

Zitt,
Are you using Stern parts for replacement or some other brand?

#389 5 years ago
Quoted from CactusJack:

The first and only rebuild I did was from PBL. Unsure if they are stern nos or repos.

#390 5 years ago

WPT 2006 was first SAM game.
https://www.pinballnews.com/games/worldpokertour/index5.htmlM

GOT or Wrestlemania 2015 was first Spike game (I believe). Unless you count home edition not sure TF was first home edition (?).

#391 5 years ago
Quoted from Okarcades:

I have not rebuilt the flippers yet they still flip like new. Flipper Power set to low still. Easy backhanding the ramps. No wear around the decals that I have noticed but I didn't look last time. I will check flipper button wear next time I'm there.

Have you thought about putting clear flipper button protectors on there? They’re cheap $5 and would help to protect it.

#392 5 years ago

Having a problem with star trek. It is awarding multiple warp ramps in a row even when a game isn't started. I was sent this video today of the bar owner. There was nobody in the bar and no game started.

#393 5 years ago

It's the opts on the warp ramp itself. Either misaligned, one is flickering, or the connection under the PF is loose.

#394 5 years ago

mine does that somewhat regularly. My fix is always to wiggle the opto connections under the Playfield. it's happened to me about 4 times or usually at a show or on location. this always fix it

#397 5 years ago

That's what I figured too but why would it award it when not in a game. If I engage a switch it doesn't give me points during game end. Opto or not.

No switch trip should activate points when no game is active. It was racking up points while not in a game. Super weird!

#398 5 years ago

Here's one for you tech.guys-If you ever lose the LED board #520-5322-00E,this piece is used to control about 12 led lights on the play field of a Pre model! This board was coded specially for this pin alone!! If you have to replace it,you have to order #520-5322-20! They are just now coming to stock at Marco's! This was a generic board used by a few other pins that have the ability to code their boards on startup-ST Pre does not do this!!! The SLE does, and so does the Pro,but not the Pre model! This board controls the lights on the Vengeance, the 3 beam -me -up- lights- 3 weapons power lights on right side, and the E-K lights right side drain lanes, and the 1 light on the ST symbol over the warp ramp ! The replacement board they HAVE been selling is # 520-5322-00,no code,so be aware of this little glitch!!

But ST code is kinda special this way. It's always been notoriously buggy compared to most other Stern releases and even the latest code update doesn't address everything it could.

I had almost the same thing happen to my game. Except the whole game not being started is really weird.
had to take the backboard pieces off to get to the opto's
took off the top part of the ramp off in the back.
Cleaned all the black stuff off, cleaned the optos out with alcohol.
made sure they were realigned when re-installing.
Tested and works fine now.
I brought a spare opto R/T up there just in case. (didn't need it, you might)
it's only one opto that registers warp ramps.
