I'll have to check mine but I think I have more than 15k plays on mine and the playfield looks amazing. Bought it pre-routed before going to my pinbar many years ago so it's been well used.

STILL have the original balls in it. They are fine.

#202 7 years ago

I've changed my balls out a few times. Mine were not fine. Lol

You definitely should put new balls in there for sure. Change them once a year, it's very cheap to do that and not worth the risk of ruining your machine not to.

#204 7 years ago

Looking forward to seeing more pics! So good to hear how the playfield is holding up. Just means my HUO currently with approx 1000 plays will last forever

You got a long way to go before you will have to worry about anything.....you probably will never have to worry. Star Trek is a great game and it's a keeper for sure!

If the balls are very pitted, or have any signs of rust I replace - but I operate 40 pinballs on route and the playfields on my games still shine like new. I'm in the minority but I think replacing pinballs is totally not necessary unless they are badly pitted, signs of rust.

Just tumble them. Good as new.

That may be very true, but for a $1.00-$1.50 for new pinballs once a year why would you even risk it? I mean that's like an average of 4-6 dollars per machine.

I have the same opinion. For Around $100 a year I can keep my playfields from getting beat up. If the balls arent too bad when I pull them out I will tumble them, but if they arent good when I pull them out of the tumbler I retire them. And if they are good I only put them in older games or games with full mylar.

Because I've never had a problem, and I've been doing this for decades.

I'm not a fan of a disposable lifestyle replacing things I don't find necessary (just my opinion). I do inspect the balls, but 99% of the time a tumble makes them nice again. Rusty balls and badly pitted go right in the recycle bin.

Also, 6 bucks us plus shipping to Canada will be at least 10 usd per game including duty taxes etc. 40 games would run about 600 per year CAD....at least. Modern games generally take 4 or more balls.

I got GB NIB and put on the launch party at my location in Tucson. For the 1-year anniversary, I should check the number to paid credits just to show how impressive some of these machines/locations are. Looking at the numbers, looks like I should expect 2,604 paid credits on the meter.

My location doesn't have very much foot traffic aside from the people coming in to play roller hockey/soccer. Aside from league/tournament players, there isn't much casual foot traffic. Getting another location soon though and that should be a much higher foot traffic area. Pinball is growing and I'm getting locations contacting me, not the other way around!

Up to 15880 now! Only problem this week was a broken wire on red switch #5 quick and easy fix. It was also really dirty. Very little time taken this week to get it up and running in perfect playing condition again!

Outhole and shooter Lane looking good!

Your shooter lane cliffys aren't really doing anything. They should line up with the edge of the ball channel on each side. Because they aren't you have wear on both sides starting. The right side metal guide won't move if you use the clamp and install the screws back in the order mentioned in the instructions. Clamping is a necessary part of the install process to make it stay put.

#215 6 years ago

I love this thread! There needs to be a help group to generally support people to becoming less precious about their machines. Get in there, play the frack out of them, maintain them properly and have fun for years!

I didn't know that! I didn't read the instructions lol. Ill get that fixed next time I'm up there. Thanks!

Love this thread... Please keep us updated!!

Question though, assuming .25 a play you're just reaching the break even point. How do you feel about your overall investment? (From the looks of it, it was a pretty solid one)

He was doing $1 play or $2 for $3 in the beginning. Dunno what he's doing now, but he has a 50/50 location split, too.

ugg... yeah i didnt think about having to split it.

#221 6 years ago

Pricing is the same and after the split I'm at about $3,700 income. I'm very happy with my investment. The game is set to $1 per play or 2 plays for $3. Considering I have put probably 300 plays my self as well as 10% for replays, specials and matches. Still very very happy!

I put 2 sided tape on the top and bottom on that protector. Seems to work quite well.

If you use the clamp and follow the instructions, you don't need anything more than it comes with.

I removed the RHS cliffy from my shooter Lane, I felt that when the ball popped out of the trough it would bounce around like crazy. So now just have my left hand shooter cliffy as that's the side that gets battered the most, no more crazy bouncing around.

I have cliffy's everywhere else on my machine. Awesome product!

Lowering the coil power helps with that (and helps the machine last longer).

Just noticing that your spinner is starting to lean backwards...easy fix to bend it fwd so it doesn't get damaged.
Great thread btw.

My spinner had the same thing happen to it. the bottom got hit so much it had a big dent and would sit crooked. I just hammered it back flat and bent the thin metal rods that hold it. Pretty quick and easy fix.

Ohhh man. Nice reading.
Whole time i was reading, i was thinking, what if routers were like you back in the 90ies, all those williams games would be in much better condition today.

I love the way you take good care if your investments also show the amount of love and reapekt for your pins.

#231 6 years ago

In a sea of negativity, this thread made me smile! Looks absolutely incredible. Keep up the great work, and let the dollars roll in! I'm a firm believer that your maintenance is attributed to your success on location.

$1 a play or 2 for $3. I guess you are not routing this in the math major mess hall. jk.

#233 6 years ago

OP...Have you had any issues with the flippers yet? (Rebuilt or replaced parts on them?)

#234 6 years ago

The only thing I had to replace on my star Trek flippers were the end stops.and mine is HUO!

At how many plays?

#236 6 years ago
Quoted from newpinbin:

At how many plays?

about 1,000 plays for me. it was an easy switch to make - first time i've done it. Basically the left lower flipper was shedding gold metal into the cab, turns out the end stop bit had become loose, so i just replaced all of the end stops as I'd heard stern factory ones aren't hugely reliable

Sorry guys! Super busy at work and with another business I've starter. I am going to the location a week from Sunday and I will get more pictures. Not much has changed since the last photos.

As far as the flipper rebuild I did that at around 12,000 plays and it should be documented in this thread. When we ripped it apart we made sure the next 12,000 plays would hold up a little better than the first. I only have the earnings and plays pics from my last visit.

I'll have more pics in a week or so!

I forgot to add these last week! Nothing broken at all!

The only thing I needed to do was wax it up and bend the metal flap down on the warp ramp.

The paint around the vengeance drop target is also starting the wear.

Has a bunch of plays and should have it self paid for after next month.

With regular waxing the playfield had no wear except for around the vengeance and around the in lane switches. The cliffys kept popping up and getting the ball stuck so one side was removed.

This game has done its job as far as an income producing machine.

Excellent work stern!!

Wow. You are closing in on paying this one off. What do you figure you are into the machine for parts and such in repairs over its lifetime so far?

I'd say less than $300 counting the titan bands, leds and plastics. This game has been very good to me.

19,988 plays now! Had to rebuild the flippers and it was awefully dirty this month. Also had to changes the rubbers which looked back until we took the off and found out they were white

The Allen blots for the flippers are about worn out! Check out the pics. Nothing else broken. This game has now officially paid for it self and everything is now just free money $$$$ not free but it doesn't owe me a damn thing!
