Here are pics of my stern Star Trek playfield with 4,938 plays. Almost 5000! On route Since April but only heavily played the last 3 months. No playfield wear anywhere that I can see. Stern playfields are pretty tough in my experience. I'll update this thread monthly with pics and show number of plays.

Looks like Stern has it together!

#3 3 years ago

That's a lot of plays. What's the pricing set to. I would have thought it could only get that high on free play.

#4 3 years ago

Where's all the bare wood that we should expect?

#5 3 years ago

I've got a ST on route over a year and except for some wear at the Vengeance drop target hole the playfield is perfect,

#6 3 years ago

What sort of location is this machine in? Seems like an awful lot of plays on it so its making good coin!

#7 3 years ago

Location is a barcade. Price set to 1 play $1, 3 plays $2, 5 plays $3, 7 plays $4, and 10 plays $5. Having a bill acceptor has been huge for revenue. People love a deal so they almost always put more than $1 in

#8 3 years ago

Have the dimples more or less leveled off the pf by now?

#9 3 years ago

The first month it was very dimpled but yes th high spots are coming down now and dimpling is much less noticeable. But as many people say even the old Bally and Williams games look the same. My Addams family looks about the same as this now.

#10 3 years ago

I like what you did with the mini post. Are those just post sleeves cut in half?

#11 3 years ago

Yes super bands sleeves cut in half with super bands on top. They last a really long time and look awesome. I totally recommend it.

#12 3 years ago

What? No pic of the shooter lane?

#13 3 years ago

5458 plays still looking good. Only things that have broken so far is a solder joint on the left flipper and a solder joint on the vengeance Opto. Game is lasting great for being on location.

I highly recommend cutting a super band post in half and use the smaller super band mini rubbers on top and installing them around the warp ramp. Looks good and works great. Lasted 1000 plays so far and still look brand new. With just the super bands minis with no sleeves they would only last about 500.

Good you have the ramp protectors. I have a chip on the alpha and beta ramps. Time for me to order.

#16 3 years ago

Yes I ordered as soon as I got a tiny crack. It Happened right away with probably less than 1000 games. Protectors are a must

#17 3 years ago

Amazing. Kudos to you and keeping it looking tip top for a location pin. Has it, and does it, still earn well?

With over 6000 plays and at a dollar a play, I would say that it has earned pretty well!

#19 3 years ago

Heck yes it work great and earns great! I've only had it since April of 2015.

Are you the location owner? If not how do you split with the owner, if that's alright to ask?

#21 3 years ago

I don't own the location. Split 50/50

#22 3 years ago

wow, that's a lot of plays.

now can we see that shooter lane

#23 3 years ago
Quoted from Okarcades:

So it'll take another 6000 plays to break even right?

#24 3 years ago

If the game is worth $3000 he already broke even. Unrealized of course..

#25 3 years ago

^^^ yes. People always seem to forget the value of the machine. Ill post pictures of the shooter Lane next month. The shooter Lane is a little rough but I guess I really don't care about that.

The playfield is still holding up great Although the decals on the side of the head are really peeling. I'll turn it into stern and see if I can get them covered under warranty. I also slipped a few pictures of my walking dead In with 4,396 plays. Both waxed once on month since they were new.

Both playfields have held up very well so far. I was a little worried with all the talk about stern quality on pinside but I'm very satisfied so far.

Walking dead is actually out earning star trek so far which surprised me.

I can see why your games have gotten so many plays. You obviously care about your games. Clean and Maintain regularly I presume. There are others out there who don't even wipe a greasy rag across the playfield when collecting the cash. I wonder how those playfields are holding up compared to yours.

#30 3 years ago

Here's what your ramps and drop target will look like at 20k. I had to add a post behind the warp ramp to prevent further damage. Other than that it's held up nicely...

9500 plays and no 'googly eye mod' yet. Get with the times......

Seriously though, very well taken care of games there. Congrats.

#32 3 years ago

Mine has been heavily played for years at a pinbar. The playfield quality of Sterns is top notch, it still has a day one shine on it.

Every ramp entry tho has been severely cracked. I've had to fiberglass repair all of them. They are strong now with the repair.

I really wish stern would redesign their ramp entries. They break on every single game, it's only a matter of time.

Any word from stern on this?
I don't think I'm having that issue yet, but need to check

#34 3 years ago

My decals were covered under warranty and they mailed me a new set for free. I won't put them on until I absolutely need too.

Yes I wax them once a month minimum which is not as regularly as I would like because of all the plays. The playfield is holding up great and the ramps are fine so far but I also have the metal protectors on the alpha and beta ramps.

#35 3 years ago

Was there a problem with the original ST decals . First time Im hearing of this.

#36 3 years ago

hoby1 - no. Others have reported problems. IDK for sure it was ST... but def Metallica and some others.

#37 3 years ago

Op...how is the drop target holding up?

#38 3 years ago

my drop target looks like sk8ball's. I had less then 10k plays when it happened. Ramps are still holding up well on mine.. Knock on wood

#39 3 years ago

Im actually talking about whether the drop target functions properly (not wear around the dt). Ive had to replace the plastic "shelve" and the spring and still have some issues with it going up and down.

#40 3 years ago

Drop target is still in great condition and working fine. Only problems so far are..... Broken solder on left flipper coil. Peeling decals. Vengeance opto need to be resoldered (pain in the ass) other than that the game has played great with no other problems except broken rubbers.

#41 3 years ago

My star trek finally cracked the 10k play mark. Still no major problems. Playfield looks great and waxed and cleaned about every 500 plays average. It almost paid for itself.

thanks for the updates...looks like it is holding up well

#43 3 years ago

Very nice. How often do you see yourself having to do flipper rebuilds?

#44 3 years ago

Out of curiosity, do the new games wear around the flipper buttons on the decals?

#45 3 years ago

I have not rebuilt the flippers yet they still flip like new. Flipper Power set to low still. Easy backhanding the ramps. No wear around the decals that I have noticed but I didn't look last time. I will check flipper button wear next time I'm there.

#46 3 years ago

Great update, thanks. Have you had to change many of the LED's?

#47 3 years ago

Crazy - I had to replace my coil stop on the left flipper. HUO, 3 or 4 TPFs and 1 Houston show.
I'm pretty sure the right flippers need new coil stops too; but they aren't sticking yet.

#48 3 years ago

That thing still looks very nice, cool stuff. I think this reiterates the idea that on location it's essential to keep them clean from time to time and to jump on minor issues before they become major issues.

#49 3 years ago

No leds have been changed yet either. I have new coil stops waiting to be put in but they still flip like new. The right flipper has over 1 million flips and still going strong.

Just curious ... did you change the rubber rings early in its life cycle?

I have an LE ... I am having issues with only two things. One is the center drop target which will be fixed by this weekend at the latest (common problem where it's not resting when it's kicked back up ... causes many drop/kick cycles).

The other is sticky flippers ... however, I noticed that there is a *lot* of black gunk dust crap from rubber rings. I switched over to Titan rings a while back ... those are still like new. The junk must have been from my first few sets of standard black rings (which I am done using forever on any machine I have ). That gunk impacted my flippers. The coil stops were fine. A quick cleaning of the sleeves and I had like-new flippers .

Did you have similar problems with the rings, or did you replace them frequently (or replace them with a totally different brand all togeether)?
