I'm working on a Stern Stampede EM machine. I've gotten most of it working as it should, but can not get the ball count to increment. I have traced back every switch in the chain, and it seems the score motor isn't turning from the out hole relay. The score motor will move slightly, but won't move forward even one position. Occasionally it will work. Obviously something needs adjusting, but I can't figure out what. The score motor works fine when it's triggered elsewhere. So it's not the motor run switch. Any insight is greatly appreciated!

there is a switch on the outhole relay that runs the score motor. has it been cleaned , re-gapped , and checked , and wire connections checked?

#3 8 years ago

Yes, it has. It looks like the motor wiggles but doesn't start a rotation when it triggers. If something else triggers the motor it works as normal. I have tried adjusting the switch, is it possible it's making the connection too quickly and not engaging long enough to start the motor cycle?

is the outhole relay staying pulled in or does it drop out right after it pulls in?

Drops out immediately it seems. Pulses for less than a second.

Is there a self hold switch on that relay? if so, it aint workin. or, it is being canceled too soon. find out why. can you manually activate that relay? does it hold for the motor to run? or let go right away?
What happens if you manually short the outhole switch? does the relay lock on?

Found my problem! It was switch E3 on the motor, "Outhole Relay Lock". I had cleaned it, but it apparently needed some major adjustment in the space between blades. Seems to work fairly consistently now. Thanks for the help, your suggestions definitely sent me down the right path.

I have a Stampede also that everything works but the Ball Count Stepper. It is not getting power to the coil. I manually move the plunger and it advances as it should. It does reset to the first ball after I restart the game after manually advancing the stepper. I have cleaned all the scoring motor switches and checked the gap but you still play the game forever on Ball #1. Any help would be appreciated, I am still a novice but learning.

Here's the circuit that controls the Ball Count step up coil. For no good reason I'd start by checking the switch on the Extra Ball relay.

Thank you, I am just getting back to this machine as I worked on a couple of my other pins and Summer got in the way. I will try your idea.

"For no good reason I'd start by checking the switch on the Extra Ball relay."

Thanks Howard R. You found the issue. It was a switch on the Extra Ball relay. I had cleaned and adjusted them but they needed a finer adjustment. Thanks everyone for their help on this issue.
