I got this game two weeks ago and the game still isn’t playable. Was told everything worked 100%, however when it arrived, unfortunately that wasn’t the case.

When the balls are in the trough a ST LE switch test should look like this when all is correct:

Each switch should only test one ‘square’ with the balls in a row on the upper left. Yet when I test the ball trough switches on my machine, each switch doesn’t activate just one square, but the entire column:

Last pic has all three ball trough switches activated. Even the shooter lane switch tests the entire column (not pictured), however the ball jam does not (the opto tests normal). Every other switch on the entire game tests normal. I’ve reinstalled the code... didnt help. No mods where added on the game. What in the world causes this and more importantly, how can it be fixed?

When you figure it out please share info as I have many STERN SAM Systems . Thank you and good luck .

Any ideas?

Try isolating the problem from the board by pulling the switch matrix connectors from the MPU and use a jumper to test the row and columns manually.

Just spoke with stern. Usually my issues go no where there. HOWEVER...after digging a little more, I believe we have it narrowed down to a transistor...Q2. Tester a couple more different switches, and they are now doing the same thing (pop bumpers, sling shots). They didn’t do that last night. So need to order a transitor. Update when I get it in.

Alrighty. So I continuity tested that little transistor and sure enough, it beeped.

Went ahead and replaced it (as well as the opto that was out), and low and behold...IT WORKS!! All test normal now!

So after having this game for almost 3 weeks, I can finally play the thing So if all switches active like that when only one should...transistor. Good to know
