Quoted from Rarehero:

Yes, there's a reason it can't be the voice actors or DMD footage used in the movies. If this rumor is true, it's not a Sony movie license. It's a Marvel comic license. They will not have the rights to use ANY movie footage/storyline/voice clips.
-They could (and will) reuse the code. So, it would probably be SAM unless SAM code is easy to port to SPIKE.
-They could re-use the music, as it was original and not movie based.
-They could *maybe* re-use J.K. Simmons voice, as it was all custom and not really tied to any movie narrative.

It sure sounds like a lot of work to only sell around 500 of a game at about $5000 (dealer cost would then likely be around $4200).

Quoted from Rarehero:

Mark, you don't understand licensing.
EVERYTHING on that playfield is from the MOVIES. They're all from the movies' style guides for movie licensed products. There are Spider-Man toys, lunchboxes, etc all featuring that same art.
If they do a VE without Sony's movie license - they can use NOTHING from that art package. Not even the logo.

Not even the toys (the molded parts)!

Quoted from Shastings:

Actually most pinsiders think "loose" is right, so they'll probably keep it.

I noticed in the SM manual that the "loose" is correctly spelled "lose" in the diagrams showing the backboard.

The person that screwed that up would never have received a passing grade in English and graduated from my high school.

Quoted from DylanFan71:

If I had to guess about the art, I'd say it's based off of the Ultimate Spider-Man that's on Disney XD now. It's the most current television adaptation.

I don't think that style would be received well. It is too childish looking.

Quoted from ita47:

Stern redesigned the center ramp on the later runs of SM. On the later runs the ramp screws to a post that goes through the playfield to support it. There is also a longer stainless protector. Its a better design than the original which was prone to break. I discovered all of this after my center ramp broke on my 2007 SM. The later design looks to be much stronger. So I don't really think this is more proof, just replacement parts for a known problem on the early SM.

What you describe is the way mine is mounted. Mine was from the last year of production.

Quoted from Aurich:

Wow, I take back my comment about using the cartoon voices, really hope they don't do that, listen to Peter:
» YouTube video

That kid stuff is awful.

Quoted from epthegeek:

Does Peter even talk in the current game? Seems like it's all the bad guys.

During Bonesaw there is a good one. I am sure there are many more but don't remember off the top of my head.

If the VE is going to be this it will be terrible:

I am more concerned with the sounds than the art for the new game. Stern should have a good feel by now of what Pinheads want in the art for a superhero pin. The sounds have been a bigger problem recently for Stern when it comes to where the audio is not licensed.
If SMVE is done wrong it could be a huge flop and the losses/costs would be put on future titles like what happened with The PIN.

Quoted from someoneelse:

spiderman is kid stuff by definition, it's a comic book hero.

The movies were not kid stuff, thus the PG-13 ratings. The movies were the reason most adults are interested in the revival of Marvel superheroes.

#543 8 years ago
Quoted from jchiu:

Marvel comics were not "kid stuff". Harry Osbourne drug overdose, death of Gwen Stacy, numerous sex references. In Iron Man, Tony Stark's alcoholism, probably a million more examples.

Shouldn't you be addressing that to Pinsider "someoneelse" since he is the one calling it kid stuff. I only called the saturday kid's cartoons with the childish voices as kid's stuff.

Quoted from hoby1:

Spike Blows IMO. I'm going back to buying older Sam and white stars
How much cheapening went on... Average weight dropped by what looks 25%. Power supply's instead of Transformers.Throw away boards and everything is component based. Higher profits for Stern and no savings passed on to the consumer. I'd stick with the original although I love the idea of the cartoon theme

Duck, I hear markmon coming.

Who knows, maybe the VE will have different villains.

I honestly don't know any Spider-man villains beyond the ones in the trilogy.

Quoted from JoeJet:

If I were still a SM owner the thing I would be looking forward to is the potential to replace those hideous slingshot plastics. . I never liked the after market ones either..

You didn't like these?:

Quoted from sparechange1974:

Looks great! Where do you get these? ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

They used to be available on Ebay.

#675 8 years ago

Why do you say that? Everyone else is calling it SMVE.

#689 8 years ago
Quoted from epthegeek:

Because of the premium price tag?

Then that would be SMVE Prem like any other Premium.

You can freshly wax an old one and it will be faster than anybody would want. When I have waxed mine it is pretty much unplayable until you get 20 or 30 games on it.
