I have the opportunity to buy a stern 2007 spider-man for $2000. I have very little info other than "it is in great condition, fully working". If I only intend to flip this for a profit, should I buy it?

Other than the quick buck, have you thought about telling other pinheads in your area about it and letting them get a good deal? Maybe they would help you out in the future.

I've been scouring Craigslist and the like to try to get an affordable pinball machine I can work on. At the moment I only have 1. I can't afford to keep a $2k machine, but if I could flip it, the proceeds could go straight into another machine. So I'm not really trying to make a quick buck, just trying to get a pinball machine I can afford
Quoted from Elevatorman:Sounds too good to be true
Are you local to STL?
If so same ad is listed here
Yeah. I've been in contact w him today.
Cash and carry deal. I think. It may completely fall through since I told him I would like to play it first.

It's probably a Gottlieb Spiderman.
This. Even a crap, but complete, Stern Spider-Man is worth around twice that.

He posted pictures. Probably a scam.
Finally heard back from him and he said there's a bidding war going on, and it's up to $3500. Guess it wasn't a scam!

This is the worst advice ever given to anybody on Pinside. A deal like that is found money and an easy flip for a $1500 profit, and "passing it on to other pinheads" will be of zero benefit.
But hey he's learning fast! Deals that good are rare and should be pounced on, not posted about here, and if they are on craigslist for all to see will quickly become a bidding war. That's like three lessons learned today!
It's not just fellow pinsiders, it's seen by all kinds of pinball people local too.Its normal for this to happen. Some people do that on purpose to get the bidding war going.Ive seen it time and time again.

Yeah makes sense. I'm not mad. Hopefully someone gets a good deal on it.

what?
and to think......... Some guy could of gotten a really nice Spider-Man for $2000 if it wasn't for all the @ssholes !
Quoted from hoby1:For 3500 just buy it. It's cheap enough
Last I heard, it was up to $5000.

Did you ever think he posted it so low to start a bidding war. I don't think you were ever getting the game for 2k.

I actually think he didn't know the value, because he said to me "I had no idea it was so popular" (once it was up to $5000+). There's no reason he would have to lie about it.
