STERN Star Trek LE I noticed that my flipper started to flutter When you lock a ball our would get a metal , shots were the shaker was supposed to engage . I went into test coil test mode and tested the shaker motor. It would work and after a few start button presses to activate the test I saw and heard the shaker motor hum and the weights would not move . I would need to manually flip one of the weights with my hand and it would spin. But it will work 80% of the time and then the shaker motor will just hum and cause weird issues like some of the flashers will flick on. I have to flip the weight with my hand and it will spin. It is very intermittent . I believe the shaker board is OK as I am getting power the motor as I can hear it hum trying to spin. Is there any advise as to why the motor Hum's and will not always spin the weights ? Is the motor starting to fail ? Can it be cleaned with contact cleaner or lubed with oil some way. My board and shaker came installed from the factory # 520-6803-00 . Marco has this number as a replacement for the 520-5065-00 that are in my XMEN and Avengers . Any one had this intermittent issue . HELP if you can. Thank you so much . Rob

Bad field on the motor

Thanks for quick response LTG but I do not understand what a bad field is . Could you explain what you mean. Does the motor need to be replaced ?

Quoted from RobKnapp:

but I do not understand what a bad field is

There are multiple fields on the motor. And each one wired to a separate piece of the commutator. Electricity goes from wipers to the commutator/fields and causes the motor to turn.

If one of the fields is bad, the wipers hit the dead spot and either skip forward roughly or stop. If the motor stops on this spot, it won't work unless you give it a turn.

Each field is wound like a coil. The pulling effect is what makes it turn.
