Is there any difference between the "factory" shaker motor from the stern store and the ones at pinball life ?

Cool thought so but someone had mentioned Terry makes them at one point so thought it may be different.
Yeah, i thought they were different also.
What is the difference between the shaker for Spike and the shaker for SAM? Is the motor and wiring directly connected to the shaker the same for these 2 types of pins? How is the wiring harness different? I know you also need the interface board to connect to a SAM pin, but if you already have the Stern interface board could you order the Spike shaker and hook it up to a SAM pin using the interface board you already have, or would wiring changes be needed?
They are not interchangeable, you need a specific one for Spike...and if I remember correctly Stern will only warranty a factory shaker for Spike Games.

Stern service bulletin #184 doesn't address using a Rev B shaker on a Spike game, or using a Rev C shaker on a SAM game. It addresses using a non-Stern shaker on a Spike game - "Use of anything else other than an authorized Stern Pinball OEM shaker motor assembly on a SPIKE equipped game could damage the game’s cabinet node board and will void your game’s warranty". So I'm still curious to know if the actual shakers are identical between Rev B and Rev C, perhaps with some wiring harness change ??, and of course for use on a SAM system you'd need the Stern Shaker Motor Interface Board. Another way to ask the question:
Could you order a Rev C kit and use it on a SAM system if you already have a Stern Shaker Motor Interface Board?
Could you order a Rev B kit and use it on a Spike system (just don't use the Stern Shaker Motor Interface Board)?
Rev B is for SAM/Whitestar and rev C is for Spike. They are not interchangeable due to a grounding capacitor being on the former and not on the latter.
Rev B includes the interface board that is required for installation in SAM/ Whitestar machines. Rev C does not require the board as it plugs directly into a node board already in SPIKE machines.
Thanks, question I wanted to set one of my weights 90 degrees to reduce shake but I didn't see a second hole for the set screw like I have on another shaker. Should it have that or have the weights changed. I was able to set the weight 90 degrees but I'm sure it will come loose as I can't line it up with the notch in the shaft.
Just got it from your store

Great sale you're running right now. Thanks!
Haven't been putting the second hole in lately due to no one really wanting less shake, and also there is a setting for less shake in Portals.
If you change your setting and still feel like your machine shakes too much I am pretty sure I can find a weight with both holes sitting around the warehouse. LMK
Yea I messed with the setting but it seems to make it shake less often but not less hard. I def prefer it at 90 degrees still enough shake excessive and I can leave the setting at full which I like.

Yea I know !! I ordered too soon That's ok thought Terry always gives great service
They are diffrent, his has a adjustment bolt that runs across it, an older design.
They are close, but not quite the same.

So the stern ones don't have that adjustment bolt? I like that bolt as it lessens rattle, unless the newer stern ones do a better job of this?

The GOT pro on location near me that has a shaker and I don't notice any rattle at all.

Yea you wouldn't notice it in a noisy environment, but in a home for sure. When I crank that bolt down it goes away. But of course they may have changed things to make it better.

I hear ya I guess I've heard rattle on other games and it's pretty noticeable even in a basement full of games being played.
I'm thankful for sale and that I was able to grab a couple. I have to admit, I was under the impression these were Stern shaker motors as that is how they seem to be advertised. Can anyone verify they are not "factory". I've bought some before for Sam games and never had issue and guess never thought too much about it, but the warning from Stern seems a bit scary. Has anyone had or seen this issue?

That is in reference to the cointaker motors I believe. The ones that PL sells are Stern if I understand correctly.

Crap, I looked and none are on the website...
Quoted from Hougie:Crap, I looked and none are on the website...
I think they immediately sold out after I posted a thread about the sale haha.
They are very well integrated into GOT. gotta get one.
When I was buying my shaker motors I asked Terry if his were Factory Stern shakers and he said no. So the shaker motors from Pinballife are not factory Stern shakers just to clarify. I was looking for the factory Stern shakers because I had already tried the coin taker red tremors and I didn't like them, too buzy. I have never tried Terry's so I can't say. I ordered from Sterns webpage when they were running a sale and got the factory shakers for $120 each shipped.
They are no. But they are good shakers.
Stern's no longer have the bolt and do not rattle. That was the only issue I ever had when we carried PL shakers is they needed adjustments.. Where Sterns did not.

What causes the pinball life ones to buzz anyhow? I know I fix mine with the adjustment bolt but what's different about the stern ones ?

Ive wondered the same thing? Thicker metal on Sterns?
