Stern gets a lot of flack on pinside -- some deserved and some not -- but one area where they have really set themselves apart from anything that has ever been done are the rule sets. In just the last few years (it seems) they have been massively creative and it has spread to other manufacturers as well. Which I think is a good thing. I *love* the complex rules -- and I understand not everyone does.
Stern has taken games like GOTG, TWD and ST that were really boring and don't necessarily have epic layouts and turned them into gold !
I keep thinking what they could do to interesting layouts like RS or JM with some rule changes.
My question is: I can you think of a modern-ish game that is so freaking bad that no amount of rules can fix it?
My answer would probably be Giligan's Island... I am slightly repulsed by the design but even there I have faith that Stern could somehow turn it into gold.
