Hey all,

I have what I hope is a quick question.

On #Star Trek (Pro), about 1 in 5 times when either flipper is pressed, the center opto (switch 33) under the ship fires, behind the drop target. That opto works fine on its own, and nothing in column one will activate it. Pounding on the playfield or cabinet in switch test does NOT fire it.

The opto board was replaced to see if perhaps that was the issue, but it wasn't.

Any ideas?

Certainly a weird one, following.

Make sure the alignment between the 2 optos is completely correct. I had a similar issue with the right ramp entry on my ST where flipper vibration would cause the opto to trigger. I realigned the optos so they were pointing at each other correctly and it is fine after that.

So this wasn't an alignment issue, but I think it was actually a weak joint on the opto boards or something. This was a friends machine, and he ended up replacing all 4 of the optos (2 Tx, 2 Rx) under the ship (while the whole thing was disassembled). And now the issue is gone.
