Well I bought one. But AFTER this one...HUO only. I am afraid I have said that before...but this time for realz.
You know how the mods thing works out - no one really ever gets their money back out of them. Which means that even after buying the "nicest" TWD LE, soon someone will be selling one that is "nicer" including the mods for around the same price.
I wish Stern would offer factory installation on these. At least that way we would know the LE of the LEs had been done right. Maybe the distributors will offer these mods installed? But I am out anyway for the NIBs, been a good long run. TWD was the dream theme for me, perfect note to bow out on.
Obviously I wish my LE had the nicest armor available, but I am not getting that on TWD LE and I bet all LEs going forward need that extra $1,000 in mods to truely be tricked out. If you like getting the highest end, top of the line, all the options from the factory etc , looks like the price just jumped $1,000 (MSRP). So the true LEs with all the options will be , what, $9,500 MSRP or so? After distributor gets it, maybe $8,400 or so delivered? Have we reached double the cost of the pro yet?

This. The mods are great. Here's the rub. The whole point was that pinball companies built the LE's to give consumers more value for the game than the pro or operator model. As companies got cheaper, private parties started making mod's for pinballs that SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE! WTF! So I see some great mods from Stern for there LE's and pros. My question is they should have the armor and the topper etc as an LE. That's what an LE is. We are just paying more for a game that should have been made this way in the first place. Stern isn't stupid they looked at all the people building mods and said "wow look at all the after market money we can make on this stuff". Make the F'N game like its suppose to be. Rant over

No it is not. Stern has produced many LEs at this point. Not one has had a topper or custom plunger or blades. That is what is great about these mods is that they are NOT selling something that is supposed to be there to begin with.

If you don't like don't buy. It is as simple as that.

What I think Stern did was smart. They are in business to make money simple as that. If I could find a way to sell thousands of dollars ($80,000 to be exact 200x$400) to my customers on a topper. I'm on it. Its a no brainer.

You now have a Pro model and a Premium model they are selling as an LE, and you have to buy the LE stuff. Kind of like when the changed the home model to a Pro and changed the regular model to the LE.

If they build it we will buy it. I'm not sure why but we do.

I do not disagree with your points above. The topper, plunger, and blades are okay with me.

I strongly disagree regarding Stern's release of the improved armor. The top of the line armor should have been with the LE, no doubt in my mind. At the very least, they should have announced there would be better armor option for sale prior to us tendering our deposits for an LE...

I'm in on this LE. I feel Stern did not do the right thing regarding the armor.

I switched to a pro mainly due to this

I was unsure which to buy, but then Tron popped in my head, and all the mods that have been made. I gambled that this would be the same......given the shows popularity.

God forbid they should try and up their game by adding something they've never done before

Mono color DMD forever!

Where are they selling armor? I see inside art panels, but no armor?

It is the black armor with the blood red hand marks/prints all over it. It looks great. I'm pinsiding on my phone this evening...perhaps someone can link us to it.

Page 1 of this thread I believe, the picture of the game in the first post shows the new armor installed.

Stern has not made the armor for TWD available yet.

Question.

I was just tucking my Pin in for the night...

and noticed somebody scribbled something on my playfield in what looks like permanent marker...

WTF?

Who does this guy think he is?

I keed.

I'm not sure what the big deal about Stern offering mods is.
This hobby is all about individualisation and personalisation, making your pin the coolest, best looking, most most blinged out version on the planet.
So your personal opinion will determine if you think the "factory" (insert any part that can be modified here) is to your taste or not and you have the opportunity to replace it with any number of great mods offered by a plethora of super talented aftermarket specialists.

So if company X had the must have fish tank topper all we'd be saying is "you gotta get this unreal topper from X!".
We'd still have bought the LE and wouldn't care where we got the topper, we'd just be smiling whenever we saw the reaction it got each time from someone who saw it for the first time.
Same for all the mods Stern are selling, either you want them or not.

The only thing I'd like to see in the future is the ability to chose these up front like ticking options on a new car purchase.
Things that are going to have to be on the pin either way like armour etc should be able to be optioned up at a discount at the time of order.
Cheers, Fitzy.

So Stern seems to be really pimping these things hard on social media. Think that's because they're high profit and they are reaping what they can? or because they're not moving and they overestimated interest so they have a lot of stock to sell?

#319 5 years ago

Or maybe because that is what a business does. Advertise their products.

They don't pump the games as much as they're doing with the mods.
