I am starting this thread to document repair of various modern Stern SPIKE node boards.
Information and pictures that you may be able to add is greatly appreciated.

This board seems to be unique to BM66.
It's function is to rotate the joker figure and perhaps field switch closures.

Q5 was visibly damaged.
Upon removal of Q5 (lower left, a 2N7002 dual N channel FET, https://www.nexperia.com/products/mosfets/automotive-mosfets/2N7002PS.html), diode testing U27 indicated a short between Vcc and GND. Since U27 drives Q5, it seemed reasonable that U27 would be shorted. However, upon removal, diode testing of the pads and other components, still indicates short (.055) between Vcc and GND. Diode testing U27 once removed indicated normal readings. Somewhere on the board, another part is damaged. Without schematics, this is going to be a tough repair.

The BM66 manual contains no schematics.
I've scoured the web and found no schematics.
I plan to call Stern to see if they can send schematics to me.

This is node board 8 out of a Guardians of the Galaxy (original run from 2017). Looks like MP24943 (U9) has failed. I've taken the board to a local repair shop where I'm hoping it'll get fixed (I have a soldering iron, but nowhere near the required skill to replace this chip).

The shop suspects capacitor C23 might be damaged as well, but I don't know what its value should be.

Sure wish Stern would wake up and setup a support plan for these items. They could set it up so it's a profit center for them (Reasonable profit) and people would gladly pay to keep their machines running.

C23 looks like a decoupling capacitor on the VIN pin of that chip, usually values are 0.1uf for these type of caps.
(just a guess)

OchoFosho ,
It was a good idea to take the board to someone with the ability to deal with the physically tight position of that voltage regulator. That part has an "exposed pad" under it that is soldered to the PCB. It might take quite a bit of heat to remove that part.

Thanks, I have sent this info on to the repair shop. I'll follow-up when they've had a chance to try fixing this board. They're currently waiting on the chip to arrive.
