Schematics for a lot of the boards are available. But yeah, unless experienced in surface mount board repair just best to wait for the new board.

Seems like communication is breaking down somewhere. Bad cable, bad connector. Not sure how the cables daisy chain, but if 8 connects to 9, could be a problem on 8, 9 or a bad cable. This is all wild ass guessing, not an expert by any means.
If it were me I'd try a different cable if you haven't already, just to see.
