Quoted from NPO:

It will become new policy if people keep buying. If we stop buying, maybe they'll fix the problem, but for now, there are too many rabid fan boys throwing money at them. We are our own worst enemy.

Fan boys will be less next time.... So Stern will raise their price to reach its turnover...and so they will be less again to buy nib...unless stern understand that it is not because playfields are less stressed in a home use that they can low down the building quality.

Quoted from MapleSyrup:

I think what Stern is trying to say with this clause is, "if your playfield is fu@%ed, we're going to take care of you, but can we please stop the nitpicky minutia of searching for imperfections, and demanding museum quality production??!". It's simply not attainable.

How old are the words dimpling and ghosting here? Do the ball heavier than 10 years ago?

Stern means that when pinball machines were used for location, distributors were less picky than collectors?

Truth is elsewhere. Stern is cutting building cost. As the market is destined now for collectors stern thinks playfield are less stressed in an home use environment and so build them in a less qualitative way.

Have a deposit on my next SW Premium so I will to go to complete it but enough is enough, never preordering another one as this new policy is a shame.

Quoted from beelzeboob:

all while prices continue to rise and quality declines, then being nice will accomplish nothing. I actually think customers have been too nice up to this point.

but you know that the only way it changes, the only way Stern hears us, is no nib purchase anymore

Quoted from PinballAlley:

The notice was headed as "New Language on the front of the service and operations manual." That as the pinball market continues to expand globally that they needed to add language to the front cover of service and operations manuals. "The language is intended to inform new participants in pinball about common occurrences associated with the game including dimpling, crazing, and ghosting." Stern goes on to further assure that "The language does not impact our warranty coverage." We stand behind our products and services. I must state that in my years of dealing with Stern , they have been great when it comes to making things right. I have had only one issue that was contentious. In the end Stern saw that I felt strongly about the issue and gave in. Because of this I must give the guys at Stern the benefit of the doubt. I have no unhappy Stern customers to date. I must admit that the notice left a queasy feeling in my stomach. Perhaps there is a "Legalese" issue with overseas rules and regulations that made the legal department deem this necessary. Right now there is too little to speculate. The real point of my post was that it is always best to err on the side of caution. In this case, look at what you are going to buy before you pay for it.

So stern informs dealers about this new "language" that "doesn't impact our warranty coverage ". Do dealers inform the customers about it when they preorder their game? And why taking the pain to write it in the manual if it does not impact the warranty? It will be seen in facts if it doesn't impact Anything.
Wood playfield is too soft, clearcoat too thin. That is all. Never seen these issues when I had my Lord of the ring. Have you heard about the words dimpling and ghosting at that time?
As there are more pinball manufacturers and so more games per year I don't know if there are more playfield manufacturers that could complete all the production...or building quicker but less quality.

Is it a joke or it's for real?

Quoted from capguntrooper:

Just installed my replacement KISS LE play field and the quality is noticeably different, not for better. I am hoping not to catch anymore ghosting as well. Now if I can just get Stern to replace the Game of thrones drop target they put on the kiss machine for the correct one, that would be swell
Kiss of Thrones anyone?

Did you receive a LE playfield?

Quoted from capguntrooper:

Yes my LE Play field was replaced

It was a LE playfield with sign and not a premium?
Correct?
