Recently got my Meteor up and running and everything works great except the left sling is dead. It does not fire during gameplay or solenoid test, but it does fire when I connect a test lead from it’s transistor to ground.

I already replaced the disc cap on the sling leaf switch. Also, I get ‘02’ when I run the switch test so it appears 2 of my playfield switches are closed, but I haven’t been able to find them.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Quoted from Knxwledge:

Start with changing the transistor, very likely that's your problem.

I replaced the transistor, still have same issue.

Quoted from snyper2099:

You have to address the #2 switch in order to determine if other higher # switches are still closed.

Thanks. The middle coin switch was wired wrong and I cleared that up and sure enough it indicates that sw 16 is closed which is the left sling. I already replaced the disc cap on one of the sling switches. When I unsoldered and disconnected the diode on other switch it cleared the sw closed indicator, so I replaced the diode but still get sw 16 closed on diagnostic test and sling still won’t fire.

Thanks for your suggestions. I was quite sure the switches weren’t mechanically closed but checked with the rubber off just to make sure.

Here are photos of both switch stacks.

More info…Following reseating all plugs on the mpu I started a game and manually closed each of the left sling switches with the ball and the game rebooted each time.

After removing the switches from the playfield I disassembled each to make sure the insulators are in place correctly, they are, I put them back together in the same configuration.

I disconnected the 2 orange feed wires and it cleared the “16”, if I touch the feed wires back on 16 appears again. I snipped one of the leads on the disc cap on the other sling switch, but it didn’t cure the issue.

Left sling solenoid DOES NOT fire on solenoid test, (but does with test lead to ground on it’s transistor).

Thanks, but I already replaced the diode.

Quoted from slochar:

I don't think you have an issue with the actual physical switch at the sling they look fine. I think you have a short somewhere else in the switch matrix.

Yes! Found it by unsoldering wires and using test leads I discovered one of the orange wires between the 2 switches was soldered to the wrong tab causing the switch to be permanently closed.

Now, switch test all clear and on gameplay both sling switches score 10 pts., but do not fire the solenoid.

Quoted from slochar:

ok, now you need to troubleshoot the solenoid driver board. Often the tip122 (tip102 is better replacement) - is blown.
https://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php/Bally/Stern#Solenoid_Driver_Board_Issues
First off go into the solenoid test with your manual open to the solenoid page. In the solenoid test make sure that the numbers 01-19 in the match display (they count up) fire the CORRECT solenoid vs. the manual. Note any that are listed in the manual that do not fire. We know neither of your slings do but check the other solenoids just to make sure they are correct.
If they are, you likely just have 2 blown transistors and/or 3081 predrivers. Follow pinwiki on how to test these and replace.

Finally got back to this and checked all diodes with my DMM and they are all within range. I swapped out the driver board with a working unit and all solenoids, including the left sling, fire properly. The left sling diode appears to be #2 which I replaced with a new TIP102. The two big caps on this driver board look original, might this be this issue? Thanks!
