I am having a( Free play) save setting issue on two Stern machines , FG and SM. When going into the settings and setting each machine to free play it reads (Installed) just as they should. But then when I exit out the setting reverts back to being not installed. I have double checked both coin cell batteries and they both read 3 volts ,as they should. I am at a loss here and am growing tired of opening the doors constantly to add credits.

Quoted from barakandl:

Is tournament mode on or any other audits that could effect free play?
Try utils -> Install factory
then try turning on free play.

Honestly I'm not sure. I will do a factory reset and try again. I'm actually glad that you chimed in because I would to go NVRAM on both of these when and if I straighten out this issue and would like to give your product a try.

I do not think anyone has ever experimented with NVRAM (on the hobbyist level at least) for SAM boards. FM28V100-TG could probably be made to work in SAM boards. But you would have to work around the dallas clock and battery monitor. Perhaps trying VCC2 to system 3.3v on the dallas 1302 would be sufficient.
The coin cells should last 10+ years.

Really? I had no idea. I thought that NVRAM was readily available for these machines

Reverted back to factory settings and I still have the same issue
