I'd like to see Catacomb or Seawitch priced like The Pin.

They are simpler than games like The Pin, so it should be no problem to hit that price point.

#108 9 years ago
Quoted from BestShot31:

There is a risk for Gary Stern in making the remake "Vault" versions: What if the remake versions do not cover the costs of tooling/parts and licensing because he doesn't sell enough of each remake?

Stern is one of the most conservative companies around.

They are not going to stick their necks out far, that's for sure.

All the design, tooling and testing is already done. A license is ~$20.

The orders are pouring in already, and production has not even started.

#157 9 years ago

Gamatron would be a fun surprise remake.

Quoted from RobT:

Makes zero sense to do a premium version of Tron.

It makes perfect sense to make a Premium Tron.

1. More money for Stern

2. By adding in the lighted ramps and extra modes from the LE, even many current owners of Tron Pro would buy it.

3. By Stern not making the Premium a numbered or Limited Edition, they would not kill the value of my TronLE.

4. I know of only 2 TronLEs on route, and both are good earners. An affordable Premium would allow more Ops to deploy them - good for pinball.

#199 9 years ago
Quoted from Aurich:

But I think the LE owners will feel hurt, and it would definitely give pause to future LE purchases.

Why would I feel hurt?

A premium would not be a limited edition. Stern could run a few hundred more every few years. There will always only be 400 LEs.

#203 9 years ago
Quoted from kbliznick:

But any premium would be almost identical to the LE.

But it still would not be a Limited Edition of any kind:

Way more than 400 produced

Different backglass (obviously there is not enough demand to run the 3D again)

Decaled cab rather than the real silkscreened LE

No numbered sign or certificate.

Factory LED lighting

#204 9 years ago
Quoted from nate1981s:

I remember Gary Stern saying that TSPP playfield would never be rerun as the licensing costs were to high

Gary says a lot of things.

He also said Tron would never be re-run and they did 3 more runs, LOL

#207 9 years ago

Consider AC/DC .

The LE has a lower playfield (with an often cloudy window).

The Premium has a lower playfield.

The reason most people bought a Premium over the Pro was to get the cool lower playfield.

-

I don't believe that having a lower playfield on the AC/DC Premium has devalued the LE.

-

So by the same logic, I don't believe that having lit ramps on the Tron Premium will devalue the LE.

#214 9 years ago
Quoted from RobT:

How could the ACDC Premium having a lower PF lower devalue the LE when the Premium was announced at the same time? It was already in existence. Obviously not the case with Tron.

None of the 4 Tron Pro reruns were announced at the time the Tron Pros were released either.

Yet a NIB Tron Pro sells for $900 more than it did when it came out even though it has crappy side decals and a crappy 2D translight.

The market was not ruined by 4 reruns, in fact the value went up and the item quality went down.

#215 9 years ago
Quoted from kbliznick:

If the LE's had different cab artwork and different translites I would agree, but they don't, so it's too close to the LE.

The Tron LEs had screen printed cabs.

The Tron LEs had 3D translights.

The Premiums will have decalled cabs and 2D translights.

#219 9 years ago
Quoted from RobT:

Right.
AND THEY DONT HAVE THE LIT RAMPS LIKE THE LE! (remember your analogy was to ACDC Premium having lower playfield, like TRON LE having the lit ramps)

So, aren't you making my point?

#225 9 years ago

I think we are now talking about 2 different things.

-

When the Tron Premium comes out with lighted ramps, LED lighting, metal decals, 2D translight and drop targets, I can't wait to see it deployed on route, attracting new people to pinball.

My own TronLE will be still in my basement, laughing at the refakes.

#228 9 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

Why Vid? Why laugh at it

I can't control it's emotions.

But knowing what I know about my TronLE's attitude, it's going to be laughing.

#234 9 years ago
Quoted from Rarehero:

Crappy decals? Screen printed had that low res "pixelated" look that people always bitched about. Decals are higher res & look much better.

Decals get torn up on route in a hurry.

Ops never replace them, so they look like trash.

Quoted from Rarehero:

Also, if the cab of a screen printed game was damaged, it's boned.

Nothing is stopping someone from putting a decal over a screen printed cab.

#235 9 years ago
Quoted from RobT:

I thought that you were arguing that the release of a Tron Premium wouldn't negatively impact the value of TRON LE, and were using the example of AC/DC Premium not negatively impacting the value of BIBLE.

Yawn

#241 9 years ago
Quoted from Rarehero:

Screen printed Sterns didn't have replacement decals since they were never decalled in the first place. Now it's an actual "part".

And that's good, but I've been printing decals for damaged games for a decade.

Quoted from Rarehero:

Screened cabs get scratched, graffiti'd, and worn by the flipper buttons.

All cabs do, but screen printed (or stenciled ) cabs are more durable.
-

Like anything, there are pros and cons to decals.

#244 9 years ago
Quoted from Rarehero:

You make decals for all the Stern games before Transformers?

Yes, but I'm not licensed to sell them.

I only use them in restoration work for my clients.

#291 9 years ago
Quoted from goatdan:

How many people do you think would have ordered either Xmen or Transformers knowing what happened to the resale market if they also had no chance of the games appreciating in value? I know I'd never think about buying angle again.

I assume that anytime I buy a pin NIB that it will depreciate in value the moment I open it.

#294 9 years ago
Quoted from flynnibus:

Imagine stern announced ac/dc as the pro and said nothing about other editions. You jump because you love acdc... Then a month later they announced the premium version with more stuff and a better game. Would you be pissed you didn't wait or feel burned that stern didn't tell you that that edition was coming? You betcha...

That is exactly what happened with AC/DC Luci edition, yet I did not see the villagers lighting any torches.

Why? Because it's only pinball.

#295 9 years ago
Quoted from flynnibus:

Then look at woz.... They promote a le edition as this exclusive, top if the line edition that will only be available if you buy NOW. They up-sell you on exclusivity and that this is the best edition you can buy. You buy in those expectations. Then later they announce the ruby edition... Your le is no longer the 'best edition'

I think WOZ people were more angry that JJP was building Ruby editions, instead of finish up the already paid in full WOZLEs.

Every Ruby, even the prototypes, is time wasted from finishing the LEs.

#299 9 years ago

Luci is the best version of AC/DC.

It's window is clear (unlike the LEs), and it has the best artwork by far.

#301 9 years ago
Quoted from flynnibus:

The ruby had to be about fresh cash flow at the expense of preorders.

No doubt.

#314 9 years ago

No matter what we say here, Stern will be making a Tron Premium (so I've just been told).

So we will soon see if the world of pinball ends in a fiery death.

#323 9 years ago
Quoted from Concretehardt:

??? more details please!

Not my place.

#324 9 years ago

Who wants to buy my TronLE with clearcoated playfield, LEDs and video mod??????

/s

#327 9 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

Is it a real LE, or an LE refake?

It's a Super Real LE #3xx (I can't remember).

But it's superior to the Normal LE because it got a day 1 clearcoat that looks like a sheet of glass.

Plays faster than fnck.

#330 9 years ago
Quoted from gprotein:

Did Centerflank sign the apron?

I have protected it forever under the clear.

#333 9 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

That sounds great! Well GLWS, because the way the wind is blowing, pretty soon the marketplace will be full of original LEs.

I instantly got a pile of PMs wanting to buy it, but there is no way I'm selling.

It's my favorite game in the whole collection.

#335 9 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

I figured you would.

I thought all the ?????? at the end of the selling statement would signal that I was being sarcastic, but a lot of people wanted that game, and took their shot at it.

Sorry everyone, I was joking!

#339 9 years ago
Quoted from hank527:

Vids LE is no longer for sale. I bought it and I am sending it to Stern to be put in a new style cabinet

I told you it could easily be done yourself.

You never want to listen.

#355 9 years ago
Quoted from vex:

right there. nobody knows what will/won't be next. that will put a damper on consumers eager to pay top dollar for titles that might be made at some point. when consumer confidence falls so do prices in the secondary market. at least thats how i see this

And lower prices is good for the players in the hobby.

#360 9 years ago
Quoted from big_ragu:

Anything older than LOTR would be pretty difficult/expensive to manufacture, IMHO.

Classic Sterns were unlicensed and unramped games.

Should be relatively easy to manufacture.

If a complicated game like "The Pin" with ramps, speech, multiball, licenses, and flashers can be sold at a profit for $2500, a much simpler Seawitch should be money.

#370 9 years ago
Quoted from big_ragu:

I would LOVE to see a cheap NIB Seawitch, but I can't imagine there would be a big enough market outside of Pinside.

Most ops I know don't buy pinball machines, because they remember the days when a machine paid itself off in 2-3 months and then started to EARN.

$5000 for a Pro is just too much money when a crane out-earns a pin 10 to 1.

But $2500 for a game means an op could deploy 2 for the price of a Pro.

A simple game like Nine Ball would also attract new players who would otherwise be intimidated by a complicated game like AC/DC. (James deployed a bunch of pins at at 20something bar and Comet out-earned all the DMD titles. Why? Probably because everything else looked too complicated).

LED lighting would make the game look fresh and not like the 1980s.

#371 9 years ago
Quoted from rotordave:

Something new and different like Hypnox would be cool ...

Or LAZERLORD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TRON: Legacy was a great movie.

I watched Tron the night before going to see TRON: Legacy in an actual **twin projector** Imax 3D theater (not the crappy single projector theaters).

Most of the people I saw it with did not "get" the movie. They totally missed the point of where Tron sacrifices himself after gazing into the eyes of his maker and then is cleansed of his sins by being baptized in the Sea of Simulation.....

#422 9 years ago
Quoted from Rarehero:

When Sam is zapped into Tronland - he gets hit by a disc and bleeds. Is he still biological or is he made of 1's & 0's?

He is a digitized replica of a human, so he bleeds binary blood.

Quoted from Rarehero:

If they zapped-in humans are biological, do they have to eat?

As a digitized replica, yes.

Quoted from Rarehero:

There's a scene where The Dude & Sam are eating a roasted pig....is that a real pig, digital, or is it merely symbolic?

It is a digital pig, edible by digitized humans.

Quoted from Rarehero:

When Quorra gets out and become "real" - is she flesh and blood real?

It depends on how Flynn wrote the code, but it's a Disney movie, you can just relax and enjoy the ride.
