Second this. Curious if he plans to do a 1.05 build of it for connected support! Can’t be getting those cheevos with stock assets. Blech!!
Quoted from Gotfrogs:I sure hope so because I updated today to gain IC support. Man I forgot how bad the original call outs are!

I disagree. While the voice acting isn't very good, I find having call outs that actually have something to do with what's going on in the gameplay to be quite refreshing.

You absolutely have the right to your opinion. Even if it's wrong!

All of the worthy guidance callouts are still here in the new mix, Tim just replaced the crap knock-off callouts with the original gems from the movie. No comparison - 1000% improvement. Plus... more John Williams <3

Guys. I ain't some dude who just discovered Tim's code lol. I have had my JP since Oct 2019. It's now over 3200 plays and most are be myself. I've had Tim's code since he started with audio only. I know it's good.
Relevant(original) callouts are useful. Movie callouts are cool and familiar. It's a personal choice.
I prefer the Stern callouts (but hate the voice acting) especially when I have ppl over to play. However I prefer Tim's music throughout. I don't really care about the video scenes as I actually look at the ball when I play lol.

Hard for me to dig the Stern callouts when I don't like the voice acting. All I know is Tim's work brought JP2 to life for me. I already loved the shots, rules and consider it an Elwin's masterpiece, but the content from the movie is just NeXT LeVeL.

I just install and played some games with the custom code...
What a difference!! Its AMAZING!
This is what it should be.
Congrats and many thanks!!

If you have ANY valid new gamecode image, and the SDcard write was completed successfully, then you are good to go.
Refer to this guide from Stern: https://sternpinball.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/How-to-Create-a-SD-Card-for-a-SPIKE-System-Pinball-Machine.pdf
Note1: This Stern guide works for any valid gamecode image. You download the ZIP file, you open the ZIP and copy the 8Gig gamecode image itself, then you use the utility to write the card. Don't even try opening the resulting SDcard in Windows. Just pop it in place of the SDcard already installed and power up the pinball.
Note2: Stern prefers to use the Etcher utility, but many others use Win32Disk utility. They both do the same thing, but some folks have PC compatibility issues with one or the other so you can try them both.
Has anyone successfully ran the new stern code for the insider connected then switch back to the custom code?
Quoted from Jecco74:Has anyone successfully ran the new stern code for the insider connected then switch back to the custom code?
Use 2 SD Cards... One with official code, one with the custom code. Personally, I'd consider never installing IC on my JP if the custom code doesn't get updated... It's that good.

Yeah same. I've got IC on my new GZ LE and feel no urge to spend the money to add it to JP after using it for a bit. I also run 2 SD Cards, which is best practice really.
Hey all, I have my JP pro on order and am in the April run. I would love to have this custom code when it arrives. I know I have to Pm Tim for a link, but I just wanted to ask, does anyone know if it runs on the most recent code of JP with IC? I here horror stories of machines being locked. Sorry if this has been asked a hundred times already.
I have played this code before at a friends and it was fantastic.

The custom code is based on 1.03 (non-IC) - so at this stage there is no IC version with custom A/V. That said people have successfully switched between the 2 versions (you just have each version on a separate SD card)

Tim will have the correct answer for you
Can you link to these horror stories about people being locked out of their machine because of using insider connected with custom code? I am using my personal custom code on four different machines with insider connected with no issues at all. Aerosmith, Star Wars, Jurassic Park and avengers.
How wouldStern know that audio or video clips have been replaced? They can’t see the contents of the files. No one is altering the “code” of the game to allow for higher scores or rule changes. If Stern was scanning the code image, they wouldn’t find any discrepancies. We can’t add longer songs or videos than the existing slots allow.
It is fine to update the images that support insider connected.
That said, I don’t care what anyone does with their games and if they update or not. So do whatever you feel comfortable with.

Actually it would be pretty easy for Stern to see that the data block section has changed if they wanted to. They own the operating system and could easily scan the data block anytime they wish and compare the actual checksum against the expected checksum and report any discrepancy next time the internet is accessed for any reason. That said, no evidence yet they have anything like that in place.

Does anyone REALLY believe Stern would brick customers' pinball machines?
Evidence they currently are not done anything, is me. Multiple "custom code" versions of all the games I listed. I swapped several SD cards in Aerosmith last night alone. The new Rush mix I made and the Motley Crue mix I made a few weeks back.

Do you play video games? Same story there. There is no doubt that stern will eventually take action on this and their ability to detect is so easy by setting flags. There incentive is to protect IP and 3rd party relations.
I can’t say this enough - Do not use custom code with sterns insider connect. Do so at your own risk.

Intellectual Property is always a very real topic. The license holder is always obligated to comply, and the IP owner is legally entitled to full compliance. Stern must demonstrate to the owner of the IP that they are protecting their license, and the way they do so TODAY is with their license agreement that they supply with every machine (yes, albeit unsigned). This notice identifies the existence of the IP and their desire for compliance. That is the simplest and most basic step a license holder can use. There are other steps of enforcement and remedies that are possible and more aggressive. It depends on how big the problem becomes. Look at what some of the biggest software vendors do... When they detect a license abnormality, they usually start enforcement by advising the consumer of the situation, and offering the means to comply. Other vendors are more aggressive. Like I said, there are a range of approaches and remedies.
Could Stern put a notice on the screen next time your machine boots that says that unauthorize gamecode is detected? Sure. It would be a next step, doesn't mean they brick the machine, but it would be an indication from Stern that something may be awry. Their enforcement is up to them, and they usually want to maintain a happy consumer base so lots of things for them to consider...
By no means is this a criticism of Stern nor the quality of the individuals that work there (I don't know them), but developing, for lack of a better term, anti-piracy technologies into their systems would require an extremely high level of both hardware and software engineering, in addition to a significant expense for them to do so. Not to mention, the complications that could artificially arise that would require additional tech support. Then there is the constant, never ending, back and forth of addressing hacks of their security each time it is cracked (and it will be).
I assure you that people who know how to develop such technologies are highly compensated, or if there are security technologies that can be licensed/outsourced they are quite expensive. Quite possibly Stern has done the analysis and determined that going down this path is just not feasible. However, that doesn't mean that they have given up. Rather, they just approach the issue from a legal perspective. In other words, they issue warnings, change EULAs, and make it clear there are legal consequences (assuming they act on them) for anyone violating their IP stipulations. I'm sure at some point, there will be someone or some entity that is made an example of. Typically doing this once or twice is enough to deter the vast majority of others from doing it in the future once they see the true consequences of such actions.

I might be wrong but I believe he only made code for the premium. don't think it's been ported to pro.
as for inside connect, he uses an older code so it's not going to have IC compatibility. i'm guessing it'll just be disabled until you swap back to the official card.
With the current state of insider connect you’re not really missing out on much. But i’d bet it’ll be a must have feature in the next year or two.
Maybe when I finish a few other custom updates for some new games I have, I’ll update the Jurassic Park custom assets on the connected code.
Quoted from Kneissl:With the current state of insider connect you’re not really missing out on much. But i’d bet it’ll be a must have feature in the next year or two.
Yeah so far with GZ the only machine I've got IC on, I'm not seeing anything compelling me to convert any of my older compatible games. As it is I barely remember to pick up my phone and connect it or don't even have my phone in the room.
Agree. Maybe a bigger deal as they expand it, but for now not a huge need. I have it in Godzilla, use it, but see no need to upgrade my JP.

Couldn't you just not allow the pin to call out when running the custom code? A simple network rule would completely shut it off from the outside. Unless you are saying you think it would know custom code used to be installed before switching back to the connected code?

Don't connect to wifi or remove the wifi USB dongle if installed.
Quoted from PoMC:Don't connect to wifi or remove the wifi USB dongle if installed.
Yeah I understand that, my comment was saying network rule just cause it would be even easier to lock off the pin at the network level and turn it back on just as easy. My only concern would be if some flag or something would be tripped and persist when you put the inside connected SD card back in and turned off the network rules to allow the pin to call back out.

Aka like how every other company does it.
The thought that turning the network off or just disconnecting each time would somehow save someone from Stern if they were truly checking is comical. Reality is that a flag is set and once that user reconnects it’s over. The question is if stern wants to do it, that’s all.
Quoted from delt31:The question is if stern wants to do it, that’s all.
This is 100% correct. If Stern wants to stop modified code, they can.
If you need proof of that, read this short, but amazing story of DirectTV's war against hackers getting free satellite signals in the early 2000s.

I don't think Stern will track people down or brick machines, but if your machine is connected to the Internet, they certainly could.

It doesn't really matter if you are connected to the internet or not. If you swap SD cards that contain non-IC modified code and newer IC enabled code you shouldn't need to worry at all imo. There would need to be a mechanism in the hardware by which the IC enabled code could identify that a non-IC enabled modified SD card was used previously. And if they could do that, the IC enabled code could brick your machine, network or no network.
If they really want to stop modified code it would be easier for them to encrypt the SD card image and make it so the hardware would only run the encrypted images once you boot up with a newer version, if their current platform even supports that. I can't think of any reason they would go through the trouble because there's no financial incentive. Maybe if the licensors are giving them grief about it?
DirecTV could brick/loop hacked cards, and as the article mentions only went after the cards not the hardware itself. I'm told people would swap between hacked and non-hacked cards without detection, since nothing was flagged on the boxes. I'm guessing their estimates for the number of cards they took out with their big attack was based on the number of new subscribers right after that since they had no way of knowing otherwise.
