Okay, so hear me out...
This is obviously just a dream from me, but the more I think about it the more plausible it seems to be. I know the strong rumors are Fast and Furious, KISS, and Game of Thrones, but I will lay out why I believe this could happen and come as a surprise similar to the way Wrestlemania did and some arguments against the other titles.

Game of Thrones although massively popular is an HBO show which reaches a limited market. It is also very adult themed and not just with violence, which with TWD Stern has shown they are willing to do, but also with sex....I don't see how this game could sell as well due to that, and how fans of the TV series would be disappointed by its tameness. In addition it would be poorly timed if it is to be their fall release as the new season I believe premiers today.

Fast and Furious, although I think would make a fun game seems to be a tad bit late. Most people will associate it with a car theme, and with the lack of success on Mustang (in sales at least, I think its an awesome game) would be another car game too soon. In reality the film series has become much more about daring heist and family with some over the top action as well, but not sure how well that would translate into a game without the focus being on the cars as it was in parts 1 & 2. I'm not saying it won't happen eventually, but I think if this was the next title it would have tied in with the Fast 7 release this month.

KISS....well this is me just not being a fan of music pins, and thinking that it would still be too soon after them acquiring the license for the game to be made, but who knows with the way that Stern can crank out games. I still find it hard to believe that this title would be that popular, but with the success of ACDC and Metallica I can't deny music pins seem to have a lot of success....oh wait there is also The Rolling Stones so maybe not. Anyway I'm not old enough to really know the music or history of the band well, but I do know they were the masters of merchandise, and still have a humungous fan base.

NOW THE PRO JAMES BOND PINBALL ARGUMENTS!!!
all james bonds.jpgall james bonds.jpg

1. It's James freaking Bond! A series that has existed for decades, is the longest running movie series I am aware of and is the third highest earning behind Harry Potter and The Marvel Universe (which I don't think should count), and as you look at that list you will see most of the other movie series already have machines as well http://www.the-numbers.com/movies/franchises/sort/World . It is popular globally which Stern says is still a large part of its sales.
2. A new film is coming out this fall, should coincide well with the Stern release cycle.
3. The new film looks awesome from the short preview and its the return of SPECTRE

4. The # and range of possible toys that could be designed for the game is near limitless.
5. Could draw on the new film only as a bit of publicity, or could draw on the history of the series different Bonds, villains, cars. Lots of artwork possibilities. Similar to the doctors of Doctor Who, but do that with the Bonds. Or similar to the Transformers ruleset with 50/50 playfield, one side is different bonds, the other is different villains. Lots of possibilities.
6. Stern seems to be doing a better job of keeping titles a bit more of a mystery, at least with Wrestlemania, not a lot of Bond rumors (until now), so the next title must be Bond.
7. Who doesn't want a game with a gun handle ball launcher?
8. Two previous James Bond pinball machines exist, everyone loves a trilogy. Including Goldeneye which was through SEGA which became STERN so I'm assuming they have worked with the licensors before.
9. Rumors of a game with a long development cycle could lend itself to the movie's timeline of script, pre-production, production, and post-production as well allowing time for artwork changes, callouts, and dmd animations to be worked on.
10. Pinball is a male centric hobby (not saying thats good, but its reality)....James Bond would cater incredibly well to that demographic, in addition it spans decades and appeals to many different age groups. It also could incorporate beautiful women as is a bit of pinball tradition, and what many pinsiders mention they want on games.
11. Yes I said 10, but have another...A Bond release would follow approximately the same amount of time between the first two Bond pinball machine releases, may as well stick with tradition.

If you think that a new James Bond pin is due feel free to contribute to this thread and discuss anything that you would like to see in a machine. I honestly don't care who would make it, but it just seems that STERN would be the leading candidate to bring a table to the public. Hope this long post doesn't bore too many of you.

A popular licensed theme that appeals to nostalgic old white men while still being currently relevant, this has to happen eventually right?

AGREED! Thanks for summarizing my rant in a much more concise way.

#4 9 years ago

Big Bond fan here. Have been for years. Title would appeal to me.

#5 9 years ago

It's gotta be better than Secret Service right?

#6 9 years ago

I believe it would have to better than Secret Service to be a success, shouldn't be hard to beat.

#7 9 years ago

Hope you are right on this. Casino Royale would have been cool. My favorite of the last several Bond films. Hope Spectre is better than the last two films which were not my favorites.

#8 9 years ago

I'd love a James Bond Pin! Just don't put the crappy Bonds on the pin. Sean Connery and the new guy. That's it for me.

#9 9 years ago

I thought the sega bond was fun.. at least at the arcade.

I just heard Tommy talking about this recently on This Flippin Podcast and it got me to thinking how cool a Bond game based on the Daniel Craig movies could be.

I enjoyed the Spectre fIlm and would love to see a new Bond game!

#11 8 years ago

Can't believe someone bumped this thread! And thank you for listening. To be honest I made a playfield sketch last week and actually wrote out a rough outline of rules for over 12 modes. I also state on the podcast, and in our podcast thread I don't have the ability to build this, but I think some of my ideas are decent! Be great to see this happen.

Link to the Rules:

Many wont make sense without the sketch of the playfield, but it is honestly so bad I don't think it should be shared yet....lets just say I'm not an artist.

I thought Spectre was "meh" (other than that killer train sequence) but would also love to see a new Bond game!

#13 8 years ago

I would be all for a Bond machine however it would really need to incorporate something from all of the bond eras to really be collectable and nostalgic.

I haven't seen Spectre yet either, but you didn't like Skyfall? That movie was incredible!

Quoted from Psw757:

I like that idea.
I heard a theory that ties all Bonds together where this could be plausible and even put all of the past Bond actors back into one movie together.

Basically "007 + James Bond" are just a code name. Once the agency Bond works for feels that current Bonds id may have been compromised, they seek a new Bond.

So for example Roger Moore's name in Bond could have been something like "Gary Stern" but had to be changed to be a Bond!

#16 8 years ago

I like Spectre better than Skyfall but both were pretty good. I'm not sure how they'd license a Bond pin that would cover several films - a single license for a single movie would be easier.

#17 8 years ago

Man Spectre SUCKED - there goes the pinball possibility?!?!

#18 8 years ago
Quoted from wtatumjr:

Single movie just doesnt cut it in my opinion, the Bond brand is too big.

I think the films have all been written by same man/family and a license coving the Brand would probably be costly but worth it.

James Bond is a world wide brand covering the last what 60 years?

Make it a special edition covering the history and I'd happily pay big money for one.

Quoted from Psw757:

Not so, but they've all been produced by members of the Broccoli family! Doesn't matter for licensing rights since you'd still have to go to the various studios that have made Bond movies over the years, and then maybe also to all the individual actors for likeness rights. Surely a huge pain to pull it off, though nothing's impossible if you've got the money and time.

#20 8 years ago

The rules I came up with basically had you accomplishing a goal based on different bond movies, realistically I just picked my favorites.

6 months later
#21 7 years ago

after watching your Goldeneye twitch got me thinking about a custom / new James Bond game to include all the bond movies.

- maybe a insert in the lower middle of the playfield for each movie with the goal to achieve all missions
- have 1 x target/s for collecting weapons (hit once to toggle a gun, twice for a sniper rifle, 3 times for a rocket launcher)
- have target/s for collecting gadgets (same concept - proxy mine, laser watch etc)
- have target/s for a vehicle (same concept - bike, car, train, boat, plane)
- and target for the person / group to take down - activates weapons

- one ramp for getaway or retract after say laying a mine and one ramp for chase
- a spinner that when hit lands and flashes a mission - movie so would variable but not totally selective and if no targets are hit and you hit the spinner again the mission changes to another one. Once a mission is accepted with a target hit the mission starts and once completed that movie stays lit and the spinner only flashes random unfinished movies.
- orbit shot traveling left to right allows you to travel between cities and right to left country to country ???

then on the apron on the left side could be a lcd screen showing the selected movie and the recommended weapon, gadget and vehicle
and on the apron on the right hand side could be a world map with rgb lighting showing where the enemy is in red and where you are in green. maybe using the wrong weapon eg pistol against a tank might mean you need to escape - so a ramp shot to getaway.

- for the orbits and ramp shots have arrow inserts that flash where to go and maybe in a expert / comp mode if you take the wrong path you end up in a different city and need to collect a vehicle again ????

just random thoughts, not sure if it would work but could be a different way to play a game

extra bonus if you get all the missions in the right order

#22 7 years ago

Maybe if a different pinball company didn't have the license already?

I am looking forward to queen out of the uk

#23 7 years ago

Yeah I have heard Bond is coming as well if the company who got the license can survive at least.

#24 7 years ago

Craig is one ugly guy, especially when compared with the other Bonds.

#25 7 years ago

I heard Craig turned down 99 million for the next two movies?

#26 7 years ago

Yeah some crazy deal. The guy who played Loki in Avengers is strongly rumored to be in the running as next Bond and I kind of hope he doesn't get it. I just can't seem him as fitting the character.

#27 7 years ago
Quoted from Mike_J:

Craig is one ugly guy, especially when compared with the other Bonds.

I disagree, but regardless, it's interesting how what is considered good looking is so subjective - no matter if it's pinball machines or humans.

#28 7 years ago
Quoted from Mike_J:

Craig is one ugly guy, especially when compared with the other Bonds.

That's what made him the best Bond there ever was.

Not some pretty boy model who worries how his drinks are mixed.

Quoted from Mike_J:

He's not the best looking guy, but he still makes a good Bond. Too bad the stories for the last few films were meh.

I wouldn't say the best, but one of the best.

Quoted from girloveswaffles:

I wouldn't say the best, but one of the best.

I was on vacation with "king of all strokes" Mike Bodak and we saw Casino Royale (2006). We both being Bond fans, were like "Wow, was that the best Bond film ever???".

The next night we watched "From Russia With Love" and "On Her Majesty’s Secret Service" back to back, because it seemed like sacrilege that a new Bond film could be the best. Certainly visiting the 2 best Bond films would set us straight, we thought.

At the end of the second move, the truth was in our faces. Without a doubt Casino Royale was the best Bond film ever.

Idris Elba would be perfect as the next James Bond!

#33 7 years ago

How about Ninja as the next Bond villain?

I agree. He has Bond Charisma.

I'm not interested either unless it's based on full Bond brand.

Based on one movie or actor is a no go for me.

Too many great older characters

Well the Playfield I drew up and modes I made up include two bond movies from each bond, well except Lazenby. But again I'm not building anything.

#37 7 years ago

Gotto agree with you Iceman. If JJP could roll this one out with Keith on the rules it would be killer, to have every Bond movie represented would be a buy from me purely on the theme/brand history and if anyone could code a pin for all 24 films woven together its Keith.

Where is the love for Lazenby?

#39 7 years ago

No way. Especially if that dork from Mrs. Doubtfire is on it. Plenty of better titles to be made.

Robin Williams? He never played Bond dude

He was on there I just didn't have two movies to choose from that's all.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. Casino Royale is literally on T.V. right now on PAX T.V. I tried watching it but after the first twenty minutes of it I gave up. It absolutely is the lamest of the Craig Bond films.

From Russia with Love is Ten times more watchable.

A jjp james bond pin with all movies is just to good to be true.

I agree I think jjp could best implement the theme overall but I'd love having more certainty in stern delivering the game.

If you are a Bond fan, you should have watched it in a theater.

Casino Royale (2006), at 96% is the highest rated Craig film:

I love the Bond films. I have them all on blu ray. I think Skyfall is my favorite movie, but Shawn Connery is still my favorite Bond. I would love to see a really well done James Bond pin. It's probably the ultimate theme for me.

No, but Pierce Brosnan did. He was just a so so James Bond.

Casino Royale and Skyfall are, IMO, two of the best Bond movies ever, and certainly the best ones in many years. Craig has done well.

This reads as if you haven't seen any of the other Craig Bond films. Whatever you think of Craig as Bond, Casino Royale is handily the best of them.

Quoted from girloveswaffles:

Agreed that Connery is the superior Bond. Dr. No, From Russia with Love and Goldfinger are all still fantastic.
