Quoted from CrazyLevi:You are so absolutely right.
Maiden is all prog rock noodling and galloping bass lines, always has been. It’s not heavy. Priest blows them away
But Iron Maiden has Eddie, which helped them sell the biggest scam in metal ever!!
Of course Maiden sells more tickets. It’s softer, gentler, and less raw and kickass than priest. That’s always going to appeal to he masses.
(That being said I’ve been to Maiden shows, they are fun, but come on. Priest destroys them!)
I did see Halford open for Queensryche and Iron Maiden. I felt bad for Geoff Tate as he sounded good but you could tell he was pulling all he could to hit the highs on Queen of the Ryche, and also being in between Halford and Dickinson in sets. My buddy and I decided we have to get there early enough to see Halford. Holy cow, I still remember my jaw hitting the floor when they opened with Resurrection. (By the way, check that album out if you haven’t. It’s awesome). Halford kicked major ass. He was my favorite part of the whole show. Also, priest released an anniversary addition of the Screming album with a included DVD of the whole US Festival performance. It’s amazing too. Can you tell I’m a musician?
Anyway, love both bands, but I’d rather see a Maiden pin. That last sentence at least, keeps us on topic.
