Took me a while but I got through this entire post.

I have an Insider Connected, code neutered, Mando Pro (v1.02 code). It shipped with the hardware installed. I am relocating the scanner to the coin door.

Looking for an apron without the IC hole. I cant find them in any pinball store inventory. Anyone selling them?

Also, it appears to me that this is a camera(?). So we have a machine with Linux at its core, WiFi and connected to the internet. My mind wanders about exploits and hackers, lol.

All pro aprons for the last couple years have had that hole hidden under the right side triangle decal. See if Stern can send you that decal to cover it up.

Good to know! Thank you

Russian hackers gonna get a lot of shots of neckbearded pinball dudes...

Then I wouldn't recommend the coin door mount solution lol.

Interesting. Hadn't taken that angle.

I commented on this couple of posts back. You have a Linux computer connected via Wi-Fi to the internet. The QR reader is a camera. I was making a joke about being exploited. Once your PIN is connected to the internet, it will stay connected. Every time someone scans their QR code, it will upload the data to the Stern servers.
There have been many exploits of city governments and companies lately. If someone gets into Stern's systems, I assume they have capability to do a lot of things to the machines connected to the internet.

Quoted from John_I:

How would this happen? You are not logged into the game in any direct way, that is why they use a QR reader to identify the player. If there was some sort of direct WiFi or Bluetooth connection between the player's phone and the pinball machine, then maybe a hacker could find an exploit.

Yeah no Joke! Shipped within the hour and I'll be receiving it tomorrow. Old Town Pinball seems to be one Solid Distributor.

Bought my Madon Pro from him completely agree. Great customer service.

This may have been posted before but this is my build/print. I wanted to put the headphone jack and volume control in the same door with the insider connect reader. I found this on thingiverse. Painted it with Rust-Oleum gloss black hammered spray paint. It's more gray than black. May hit it with a coat of gloss black.
Great model:

/rant mode on
Insider connect requires a modified apron for the reader, which is frankly awful looking. OK, no worries, just put the reader in the coin door using some community made 3D model. Yes, but... In Europe, Spike 2 coin door does NOT have the opening that is being used to fit the reader.
And a US coin door is 200 euros, and it's not available...
So I have a choice between not installing IC, or install IC and ruin my apron artwork with this awful integrated reader. Or not update the firmware and stick with the older one to ensure I get Scorbit compatibility (because of course Stern disabled Scorbit support in the latest release of the firmware), but in this case I lose some bug fixes that were not made available.
/rant mode off
If anyone has a practical solution to this, I'm all ear.
I think I'll end up adding an opening in the cabinet bottom, route the cable and reader externally to a suitable location outside of the machine. And use a mechanical splitter to share the reader across machines.

I can't remember where but I did see a 3D printed box for the reader. Saw it on the back box underneath the edge. Looked okay. Would keep you from cutting a hole in the bottom. Will look for the model tonight.

Does anyone else have detection problem with the Startech Wifi adapter?
Did anyone get a Canakit Wifi adapter in their Insider Connected kit?

I had one that it would never find. I finally tried unplugging it and plugging it back up while it was running. It immediately worked and has worked for hundreds of games since.

YMMV

I am trying to connect to pinball friends through my insider account.
The 'search' engine is not working, I only see default stern user accounts.
It's not my cookie settings.
Has anyone else succeeded? Or is it an All-Access option?

When my wife and I registered I couldn't find her. Then I discovered it was case sensitive. Then I was able to add her and a couple of friends.

I haven’t been able to log in for over a week. Anyone else with the same issue?

Same as you. I just dug into it. I run PiHole on my hole network as a DNS sinkhole. If you cant access geolocation.onetrust.com, the page will never load.

Once I whitelisted the domain it loaded just fine.
