Quoted from Joe_Blasi:

you may not want an live RJ-45 jack on the back of an arcade game in some locations.
But maybe they should as they use cheap wifi sticks that don't work that good in some places.

As long as there's no configuration by default, it shouldn't matter.

Quoted from Fezmid:

As long as there's no configuration by default, it shouldn't matter.

1. I think it's DHCP auto
2. the wires are live even with no config some one can spike it with voltage or it may be sending POE over the line as well.

I didn't articulate it properly, but I meant not connecting the coupler to the node board - so it wouldnt be electrically connected unless you connect it in the head.

From a networking perspective, I thought it had to be selected before it was active but I could be wrong.

It may up it on boot and I don't think that stern let's you do any network config other then pick wifi network and they shipped with cheap 2.4G only wifi hardware in some of the units.

#3905 1 year ago

Hardware could be disconnected internally like their DBA connections. Put a blanking plate in and sell the connector that's like their bread and butter.

#3906 1 year ago

Anyone else experience slow connecting for Insider Connected? My Rush LE connects pretty quickly, but my AIQLE, which I added a kit to manually, takes forever to connect (says machine isn't connected when I try scanning in). Both are hardwired via Ethernet. Once connected it is not an issue though.

#3907 1 year ago
Quoted from J85M:

I’m one of those at nearly £300 a pop for an IC kit here in the U.K. I won’t be buying kits for my older spike 2 games but if I can get them online using home team, it makes me far more interested and keen to see what IC continues to add to games and brings in the future.

Unfortunately, if a QR reader isn't connected to the machine, the code disables the IC features.

Quoted from Flipstream:

Not since adding Hometeam to the code, you just need a scanner to set IC up then you can disconnect it. I have 6 machines on IC and 1 scanner ( how long Stern will allow this to continue is anyones guess )

I don’t think this is correct. Many folks have reported here that logging via Home Team allows them to share a single QR reader among many games.

As a recent new user I was skeptical about this insider thing. It’s starting to hook me though. My son and I are motivated to go to a local pub where they have a couple games on Ic and try to get achievements. I guess that means it’s working. I could see given more time to evolve it could be a really compelling platform and a big differentiator for Stern. Given that these types of platforms have been common in gaming for 20 years pinball is actually behind the times. But kudos to stern for starting the catch-up.

#3911 1 year ago

Ugh, I've had at least four or five games--a couple with really good scores--not post to SIC today because the machine lost connection to the Wi-Fi midway through the game. They really need to figure out a way to cache game data and post it when the machine gets back online.

Any consensus on IC lights not working?

I see - Reseat the cable, Stern will replace etc. But I didn't see anyone say if there was anything specific that was working.

Just added an IC kit, and the Light flickers on startup for a sec then goes out. The QR camera works though, just the light is out. Tried playing with the connectors, jiggling, repeating etc. But no real cause and effect answers.

Lots of faulty units were sold with IC light issues. Open a ticket. They will replace it.

All that I know is that whether the light is on or off it will still work...

Anybody know when the actual days reset? I was trying to pump up my days played streak only to see it reset back to zero. I've played at least one game ever since the badges went live so I wonder if I played too late in the evening to register for that particular day.

If it’s the same as the operator side it’s 8pm eastern standard time.

#3920 1 year ago

8/7/6/5 PM (east to west) is a horrible time to reset the "day" in what I assume is by far your largest market. How's a bar supposed to run an IC promotion that ends on a certain day?

#3921 1 year ago
Quoted from yancy:

You can choose the time your leaderboards and such will end, not just the day. Shift the end time accordingly.

It's still dumb you can't operate in local time, but you can work around the problem.

Is it possible to find a specific locations web link leaderboard?

#3923 1 year ago
Quoted from TroyS:

Is it possible to find a specific locations web link leaderboard?

From the Insider main page, go to locations, then find the location you want. When you click on that location, near the top there will be a tab to see the leaderboards for that location, if they have set them up.

The actual web link to use as a display at the location is only available to the operator.

#3924 1 year ago
Quoted from CaffeineSlug:

HighProtein just helped us out in this regard. If you want to see the Kiosk view for a location try the following:

* On Insider Connected navigate to the Location you are interested using the Location Finder
* Click on Leaderboards and if they have an active leaderboard running click on that (past leaderboards will work as well)
* The link for this should look like: https://insider.sternpinball.com/insider/leaderboards/[UNIQUE LEADERBOARD ID]?location=[LOCATION ID]
* Copy the [UNIQUE LEADERBOARD ID] and append it to https://insider.sternpinball.com/kiosk/[UNIQUE LEADERBOARD ID]

There ya go, now you can keep tabs on your local rivals

#3925 1 year ago

Dear Sweet Baby Jesus can we please get leaderboards for home use????

#3926 1 year ago
Quoted from Smack:

Stern already shows you the leaderboard though. Is there some benefit to seeing the kiosk view instead?

#3927 1 year ago
Quoted from CaffeineSlug:

Not really any benefits but here are a few differences.

* In Kiosk I can see the top 10 scores for each machine vs only the top 5 (or 4 if you have a score that is 6th or lower)
* In the Standard view you can view ALL of the scores for a single machine by clicking View Full Leaderboard

So really it just gives you more of the Top 10 data at a glance for all machines at that location.

I’m eastern time. I played yesterday 3 pm. Today at 6 pm I am about to play and my streak is reset to 0. This is some bullshit right here.

at least do stuff like casino days at reset at times like 6AM, 3AM, 4AM, 5AM. maybe they mixed up am/pm?

There are bars that stay open to times like 3AM / 4AM so maybe some said that midnight is bad or it some how messes up midnight madness modes.

#3930 1 year ago

you guys are overthinking it. It's simply they aren't doing timezones right and are not calculating things based on midnight in a local timezone relative to the point of interest (player home or location). Their stats are all janky for the same reason... and Stern won't answer what they are really calculating by.

The operator stats are trash for the same reasons.

#3931 1 year ago

Super easy fix for Stern... it even says what time zone the game is in at the top of the page, they just neglect to use that information.

Can someone give me the Cliffs notes for the Marco IC stream? Heard Gomez was on it.

All resets are done on Sterns end.
My only hope is that all phases go smoothly.
Yeah I was quite bummed it was released with nothing but gameplay audits for operators but its all worth the wait.
Their signage to signup is horrible.
I basically walk casual customers thru weekly.
Also, how about a street team?

#3933 1 year ago
Quoted from CaffeineSlug:

You don’t have to be signed-in to see the kiosk view. Makes it a bit more convenient to keep tabs on your leaderboard spots through a bookmark.

If you try to bookmark the regular leaderboard page, every time you click it, you’ll get shunted to the login screen, because Stern hasn’t figured out how to do login redirect URLs yet.

#3934 1 year ago

That makes sense, hadn't considered that!

#3935 1 year ago

A few of you already have but if you have a leaderboard set up, please post a photo and let us know what display and hardware you are using? I really want to add one to our arcade.

Here is one example I found:

There are many ways to do this - I did a summary a couple months ago with the different options and pro's and cons. (click my silhouette, and go back a few posts)

A big question you need to ask yourself is - Do you need it to turn on and off automatically, or will someone be there to turn the TV on and off everyday? This kind of drives the primary direction you need to go in. The next question is do you just want to display the leaderboard, or do you want it to also display digital signage too? Answering these questions first will point you to the setup you will need.

#3937 1 year ago

Thanks davegauth, I have read your post. I am more interested in how things look and want to get inspiration from others. This will be in my personal game room so turning it on and off is not a major concern. I am interested in how and where people mounted their screens.

Here is what I have on location..

This is a 58" TV. I still find it a bit hard to read as the fonts are small, and the higher it is the more off angle it is. I would have mounted it lower and on the wall(above the wine barrel) but I'm going to need that space soon.

If I was to do anything for my home - I think I'd use maybe a 50" TV and mount it in portrait mode and at eye level. Kind of like a movie poster on display.

Is that orange door a restroom? Hang it over the toilet. I'm only half joking.

Maybe on the wall to the left of the door? Won't be easy to see when someone's playing the closest game, but at least it'll be eye level. Could even go portrait mode there.

It's a maintenance closet, mops brooms that kind of stuff shoved in there. It's the space the brewery gave me to work with.

You are right, to the left of the door maybe an option at some point too. I have a couple more machines going in the space, and maybe a multicade under the Leaderboard. It would have been much better with a 65" TV up there, and maybe angle it down. But the brewery had this brand new TV I could use. Saved me from buying one.

Groovy looking,
Yeah I'd prefer portrait vs landscape and lower level closer to eye level.
I'm figuring how I can setup at a location this month.

Use a projector for a leaderboard? Looks like you're already using one for the green image on the left wall (or is that a laser)?

It's a laser, star field, some moving patterns etc. A HUGE projector would be interesting.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions when you do. The pinheads like it and spend a couple extra $s trying to get their name up for each machines. I find myself chasing some scores too.

If they patch it out, I sure as shit won’t be updating my games that already have completed code.

If Stern can for once resist the urge to be completely greedy there will be a better long term gain keeping as many people and games on IC rather than selling a couple IC units.

Leaderboard tip.. at least with my browser, I found the reflexive design of the Stern Leaderboard pages would not take advantage of my higher resolution displays. I ended up forcing my device to use 1080p as this was the only resolution that allowed the browser content to truly fill the monitor's screen area.

Leaderboards look great on a 65" portrait mode TV

I do wish Stern would give us some more controls over the layout to drive things like text size, etc.

I’m using a 40” tv in landscape mode and it’s difficult to see the names and scores. Stern needs to fix that but unfortunately I believe it’s not at the top of their list of shit to do.

Yeah, it's difficult to find a 'one size fits all' solution when you are dealing with something that could be 15' away or 3' away. Something they could fix just with some URL parameter options to offer some style inputs.

It's also why we went with a larger monitor.. knowing people would not be right up against it (like Stern likes to show at tournaments, etc).

Maybe someday...

never the case. I had my games on IC without a reader so I could get stats on the number of plays etc.

I took delivery of GZ Premium yesterday, my second machine with Insider Connected. The first machine connected immediately and has been trouble free since then, but I’m having issues with GZ despite it being in the same room and connected to the same AP.

I managed to get it connected to the AP when I set it up yesterday, and scanned my insider QR code to link it to my account. I logged in and completed the registration and it’s now showing on my profile. However, the game now reports that it’s unable to connect to Insider Connected, and when I test the connection I get a result for CDN speed test, but server loopback reports no connection. It also thought I was up to date on code 0.97 when 0.98 is available.

I’ve reset the Wi-Fi dongle and connected to the AP again using the QR code generated by the other machine which is connected to Insider, checked the time on the game is correct, and updated to 0.98 via USB and I’m still having the exact same issues. Does anyone have any suggestions re how I troubleshoot?
