Quoted from J85M:

No of course they wouldn’t have advertised that. Here everyone IC $200 per unit, but if your clever you really only need one!
It’s like Jacks JP Pin reveal stream, Jack got asked about being able to upgrade the small lcd and he went into something like “yeah probably if you get….” Before Watson cut him off real quick with “no no no nah you can’t do that” it was so obvious from the exchange it can be done, but stern won’t advertise that similar to them not shouting from the rooftops you can likely get away with one IC.
It’s really simple if Stern to sell more units lower the price and bring IC into the market as a lose leader type product which it should have been from the start.

Really bad analogy - a display is a display… and they didn’t sell it as a kit.

Stern isn’t trying to make retro kits a profit center.

And you still didn’t answer what you’d get. Every workflow today starts with the scanner.

Bad analogy? Well I wasn’t making one to start with or comparing IC to displays.

I was a simply making the point from a recent observation, that Stern do not advertise everything you can do with their games/tech.

But it doesn’t surprise me as you often seem to read what you want, over what someone actually puts.

You know you don’t always have to beat the donkey till it’s dead mate, like you have done multiple times in this thread already.

Well, they need space to download and verify an upgrade image before updating the image on the motherboard SD card.

This makes a LOT of sense. So the board that attaches to the QR reader actually also contains a download buffer drive (microSD)

It wouldn't surprise me if that was also used as a temp cache device for achievement data since it has to send it over the internet. I haven't even seen where that microSD goes so this is pure speculation.

Anyone else not able to connect to Stern now? Got machine yesterday, set it up, insider connected worked fine (earned achievements and such). Turned on machine and though the qr reader signals it has read my qr code (makes ding sound) my info doesn't load and games are just "player 1" instead of my profile.

I went into the service menu settings where I see I'm connected to wifi, it can check for updates and tell me I am up to date, but says can't connect to Stern inside connected. I've rebooted, reset the USB wifi adapter, and wiped the wifi settings but still no luck.

#1656 1 year ago

My games are registering and achievements collecting, but it hasn’t updated my High Score or any of the scores I got since day one.

What’s a shock, Insider Connect is a piece of junk

#1657 1 year ago

I suddenly can't connect tonight. Perhaps an outage?

#1658 1 year ago

I can't connect tonight either. They need a "status" page so we can monitor outages like this.

oh good - I'm going through thinking it's a problem with my new machine (since there's another one)

Probably a dumb question: where do I find the ethernet port for trying a wired connection?

You are still comparing replacing a part w another equivalent part (a lvds driven display) to “not disclosing hidden functionality”. It’s not even the same concept! A horrible justification of ‘maybe’

#1663 1 year ago

If anyone is annoyed with always logging in or looking for a photo of your QR code.
I used this and it seems to work great.
Even after I generated a second code.

Insider connected back online for me

#1665 1 year ago

So I got my zilla LE today. It says its online.

Made my insider account, got the qr, but when I scan it, the machine makes an error sound and posts no message. What am I doing wrong?

Go into the “net”? Utility in the service menu, then register and it asks to scan your QR to see who it’s registered to.
Then maybe do a “check connection” to force a call to stern, then see if you’re good.

#1669 1 year ago

Number one request for stern: if game is set to free play, please don't log me out of my account (so I have to rescan) if I restart a bad game

Ya logging back in after restarting a game is a little annoying. Especially when you put in a player 4 on accident and have to kill the whole game for 3 people.

I figured out that our game wasnt registered. Insider worked fine after that.

One thing though. My buddy accidentally scanned the registration of my LE into his account. How can i fix that?

I agree with where you all are coming from ...free play / home environment (or at least just you playing), it is annoying. One callout though is at a show (like Chicago Expo) , it would have been great if it DID log you out each game. There were so many times we were either playing as someone else, because it was claimed already by the previous player. I ended up just giving up trying scan in as I just wanted to play Godzilla.

Maybe have it as a menu setting though for the option?

The nice thing about the JJP/scorbit setup is that you claim from your phone, and you have the control on your phone to "autoclaim player slot', which is awesome in a free play / home environment.

I hope he isn't telling you it's his now!

Have him go into his account (picture icon), and he'll see a tab for Machines.

There's an option to UNREGISTER machines on mine, so hopefully that's the same.

So have they released pricing for this sucker yet? I’m keen but I’m thinking the price will be too high for me. It’s cool tech but I don’t think I want to spend more than $100 AUD for it

This would be cool for locations. Anyone know if eventually operators will be able to do similar displays?[quoted image]

you can do this with scorbit now - its cool I have all my games on, WMS, Stern SAM, Stern Spike, JJP, Spooky and Classic Stern

At our pinball club we have an all-time and monthly scorbit board and have it for competitions and automation of tournaments.

No doubt in my mind that Insider Connected will follow suit with something similar for location play/tourneys/etc. I think I saw some screenshots where they had a similar interface at Expo to track high scores. Will be exciting to see the roadmap for 2022.

I just printed out my QR code and laminated…as I was finishing, the concept of Stern including like an insider membership card with QR code popped in my head. Could be included with the paid tier or a nominal purchase with the free one.

The last thing I’d want is more crap in my wallet. Just screenshot it on your phone, make it a favorite and your done.

Is anyone else having issues with it not showing your correct high score? All of our accounts don't show up the correct high scores we have.

#1682 1 year ago

I noticed that my IC account didn’t show that I had played my GZ on Sunday or the couple achievements I got.

Anyone else seen this?

#1683 1 year ago

I've got an odd one ...

I played a GZ Pro this past Friday, its 2nd day on location, but my IC account shows the date of that as two weeks earlier. Neither the pin nor the location was registered/online at that time. Also, the wrong date is before I even used IC for the very first time on a different GZ at a different location (dates+stats on that one appear to be correct).

This type of issue seems to be pretty common thus far. For me, personally, I played ~3 games in a row and never logged out...and only one of the games was logged in IC. Lots of people are reporting wrong dates, missed games, missed achievements, etc.

Could be an issue at the machine itself or on the server/cloud side.

Which means they’ll be about $300 AUD if not more. Too much for me unfortunately. I like some of the things but not all of them. Can you hot swap node boards? You could buy one and have a cat5 cable hanging out of your machine and you could just move between games… I’d be up for $1200 to fit out my current collection

Not sure, but the "right" thing for Stern do is enable some level of support for online features with just a wifi dongle for the home environment. Im fine using a Stern Insider App to scan a QR code on the screen to associate my account with a specific machine I own. Then, when you want to add a player, you could have a list of associated accounts to choose from. Of course, that won't happen, but it would be preferable to spend like $30 to add wifi to 2 machines rather than the $600 through the current method.

Aus price likely to be $450 to $500.

On coin play, it definitely needs to auto log you out. I played a GZ Pro while waiting between rounds at our local monthly tournament, and afterwards someone else walked up to play and I had to quick run up and press both flipper buttons to log myself out. Otherwise, they would have ended up playing as me, and it would have fubarred my achievements.

It's happened to others too, I've been hearing.

It's nice to just be able to keep playing without constantly scanning in, if possible. I wonder what the balance is though. I feel like a "Recent Player" option would be nice, but also, I don't want anyone being able to play on my account.

Another issue I've run into is, 3 players, all signed in, 10 credits on the game. And then, Start button 3X, because 3 players, right? Well in this case, 4 players because Start button the first time auto-adds 3 players (because we're signed in) and then 4th player for 2nd Start Button press. How do you address that?

I agree - it seems like the process when on free-play should still be 1)sign-in 2)press start button (and repeat for every player).

#1696 1 year ago

There is Standard Adjustment #46, Start Button Behavior, which controls the start button behavior. Options are: "All Logged In" (default) or "Single Credit".

If the insider connected setup was done on the game and the web app so that the game is online and ready - you can walk up and scan your QR code before pressing any buttons. You should hear a tone acknowledging the scan, and then another tone when it successfully identifies you as a player (and the screen will add you in the player 1 slot).

Do the network set up on the game in the service menu (to get it on the wifi), then log in to insider and connect the game.
