Quoted from flynnibus:

The card is blank when you put it in.., game does all the formatting and loading automatically . You just need to leave a sd card and wifi dongle in each game.

Correct.

However, in my case the SD cards that I had bought (and that seemed to meet all the criteria) wouldn’t finish getting formatted. I waited for maybe an hour before giving up, since it should take maybe a minute if not even less. I had one different brand SD laying around, so I formatted that in an IC machine, then read the contents as an image file on my laptop, and finally wrote that image file back to the SD cards that I had bought. They have worked flawlessly since in 6 different IC machines. I don’t know what was wrong with my SD cards originally (tried all the different file systems, FAT, exFAT, NTFS etc, tried removing and recreating partitions etc) but cloning a working one did the trick. After this operation all the machines accepted and reformatted the cards without any issues.

Bug related to different language maybe?
It’s worth sending a bug report to Stern even if it just gives them another data point.

Quoted from mattosborn:

Mine never reads the printed cards in the dark. The light from the reader is just not enough on its own. Seen this on many other machines as well. They struggle to read the cards if there's not enough ambient light, whereas the code on the phone pops right up.

Maybe...*maybe* the card stock reflects the light a bit better. I dunno.

Works on Aerosmith, JP, and Godzilla all without issue. And the latter one is in a different room so I don't think it's an ambient light thing.

Quoted from scootss:

I downloaded the "card" from the stern site, added a picture for the players in my house, and printed on card stock. I've never had an issue even when playing with the lights off.[quoted image]

Do you just not like home team?

I love home team...but I had Aerosmith before home team and my JP Premium has the movie code so home team isn't supported.

For people at home - why not just use home team and ditch scanning all together?

ETA sorry, much later reply

The only thing I think would be is you had some MBR/EFI thing that was incompatible. I would just take a working card and looking at it's partition table and boot record for prosperity to know. I don't have any IC games at home right now to check...

My reason is personal, but my father died the day we ordered the machine. Took my kids up to his house to help clean up and he had just jars and jars of quarters. So the kids wanted to actually use money in the machine and not do free play. As far as I know, free play is required for home team.

I tried to talk them out of the quarters so we could use home team, but they weren’t having it and I get it, so here we are making funky cards to use. Which is fine.

We also play at a local pinball place, so the cards double for that when we aren’t home.

Very sorry for the loss of your father. Love the idea of using those quarters to play pinball, even if just at home.

I think the restriction on Home Team is it can’t be registered to a Verified location/account.

I’ve had this exact problem and checked the boot record of the card using disk/partition management software - it’s not that, the non-working card was set to MBR exactly the same as other working cards. (That is definitely a good thing to check if you’re using a thumb drive for updates though - GPT will not work!)

Anyway back to the cards that won’t format, for some reason, the Spike2 CPU boards just don’t seem compatible with certain brands of cards. My advice is to try a different brand - I’ve not yet encountered a Sandisk card that didn’t work for Insider Connected.

Yeah looks like changing that setting didn’t do anything. I guess I can try unregistering the machine. Not sure if that matters.

Would it be possible for Stern to add badges or "victory laps" for completing all achievements again? Or for completing certain groups of achievements again? Something to keep working towards after you've cleared all of them for a game?

Yep That reminds me I need to reflash turtles 87 code. Didn't realize I had autoupdate on until it updated...nothing worthwhile in the update either

Go a slightly used Foo, and can't seem to sign in into my network.
Oddly once I leave it alone, it says its signed in, but then doesn't work.
I've tried typing in the PW, twice.... (all lower case and pretty sure its correct)
[also is there a way to view what you've typed in full?]
any other ideas, tips tricks?
and once its online can I just use my existing QR code that I used for my Deadpool?
Is there some registration of my new to me, machine required?
thanks

If you already have a machine on IC, you should be able to use that QR to mirror the network settings to the new machine in a few seconds. You will still have to unregister the machine from the previous arcade location and add it to your own if it is still set up on the old location.

All right so over two hours of reading through this forum I’ve learned a lot. However I have not figured out the answer to the question I came here for. Well vaguely.
I currently have a Home Arcade, We have 12 newer stern machines here, I would say on average they probably have between 75 and 200 plays on each game. I started the daunting task yesterday of updating all machines and connecting inside or connected. Six of them are equipped with insider connected and I just purchased enough upgrade kits for four more. I would like to be able to set them all up and configure with a monitor on the wall showing the leader boards. About once or twice a month we have five or six friends that come over outside of our family and play.
Question being. Do I have to register as an arcade and apply for a pro account?
Does anyone know if we can configure a leaderboard just for my home location? Is so how??
Thanks for the in-site and coming responses.

The short answer is that, right now, leaderboards are just available for verified public locations. Home leaderboards are one of the top requested IC features and I’m positive Stern knows that and they’re on the way, but nobody knows the timeframe for that.

But no

I think they nerfed the option to disable auto update

If you have one IC kit, can you use it to set up IC on multiple games and then have them work without the scanner? Could you just plug in a wifi dongle and have it connect and use the home team function?

Yes, just a WiFi dongle and sd card required

I just checked on an up-to-date godzilla and it is still there...but...it was a little confusing to see it. I had to go into the "software update" item twice - the first time it checked for updates rather than showing the option.

Insider appears to be down right now.

Couldn't do a Ball 1 login on FF about 45 minutes ago, and the IC section of Stern's website is not responding either.

I installed insider on a pin tonight. I was losing my mind trying to figure out why it wouldn't work. I've done 4 of my machines so far and I have the process down pretty well. (Also, I used to be a computer engineer and I know TCP/IP). Then I went to my laptop and tried to login. Sigh. I wasted 20 mins troubleshooting when the problem was not on my end.

Actually, it took me much longer to set it up. In the hobby for over 20 years. Had, lots of machines that I worked on constantly and tonight I broke my first PF glass. And it was invisiglass to add insult to injury.

Ugh, my biggest fear. I took a shower door out and as I was holding it, it shattered in my hands.... so loud. Scratches on my body. Stepping on glass for MONTHS later. Hopefully it wasn't over your playfield!

The only good thing was that it shattered as I almost had it completely out, so most of the glass went on the floor. Only had a little on the apron and shooter lane.

So I wanted to make insider “cards” for my kids to use with their QR codes. Makes it easier at home and on the road for those without phones etc.
Generally, most QR codes I’ve seen can be translated to a link or text or whatever. The stern ones seem to only be readable by their machines.
Does anyone have more info or experience with how their QR codes work? I’d basically like to recreate them using something like QRCode Monkey.
I guess worst case I can just copy the images out of their profiles and just construct a card in photoshop or whatever.

I used the snipping tool to take the QR code from IC and made a fun graphic for carrying around. Laminated a copy for the wallet.

Does anyone think it's in the realm of possibility to one day have the ability to do remote configuration changes? We already get tech alerts so it seems like a natural progression. It would be nice to have scheduling of pricing too but one thing at a time I suppose.

I know that can happen for sure as I have seen an example. My thought thou is that with value added functionality there might have to be a cost wrapped around that in a subscription fee for like a Pro+ account.

Brutal. Sorry to hear that. "honey, I need the vacuum" "why can't you get it?" "uh, I'm sort of surrounded by glass shards" lol

Depending on the cost of course, I’d be all about it. If it’s a flat fee for the account rather than a per machine price model it would likely be worth it to most operators who have machines in multiple locations.

Yeah I would hope for flat fee.

I know they talked about QR codes to give out free games so I’m sure configs are coming too.

I'm 99% sure this question has been asked and quickly searching not finding the answer but:
I just installed the Insider Connect kit on my Iron Maiden Pro.
What have others done with the right side decal which got replaced by the QR scanner?
Anything creative? or just "furget aba it"...?

I 3D printed a plate for it to go on and at Expo had the designer sign it and its now an art piece on my wall. BOOM

I installed it in the coin door so I could keep the artwork. I think ic looks terrible on the apron.

#4995 5 months ago

What is the stupidest Insider Connected Feature you can think of? Preferably something crazy instead of just pointless.

I'll start.

Uh... Uh... Every time you put money into a game on location you get a lootbox which... no that actually sounds like it could be kind of cool.

How about: a boss rush where you have to drive around to a bunch of different insider connected locations on location that are spread out around your city and do a mission on all of them within 90 minutes.
or
After a game you get a QR code which records what happened in the game, and then you can scan the QR code to play back the recording on a pinball machine. The ball would stay in the trough, but the flippers and lights and modes would progress to recreate the saved game. And then the game would ask you procedurally generated trivia questions about what happened in the saved game.

I was actually thinking that being able to generate/save a log of a game would be kind of neat. If you kept track of switch hits/timing etc, you could reconstruct a replay of a game. Would be a cool tournament feature, but could also be a huge help in development, since it could give you more data for bug reports, indications of where scoring was broken, or telemetry on what people are and aren't achieving (the kinds of things that are in most modern games). Probably way more work than it's worth though.

I have that on my AIQLE - it's great.

Although with Home Team, I now hardly ever even need the scanner. Had people over to play pinball the other day, and none of them bothered to setup a profile, even though I gave them the information ahead of time. Oh well.

I have the reverse everyone but one guy was signing in. Fun when a whole group of your friends are on IC.

Home team is great !

Last thing players want is log in hassle.

Such a plus to make the game easy to access and more enjoyable.

Solid start from Stern Pinball for a cool application.

Looking forward to home team leader boards.
