Hi, Gang! I’m finally joining the Godzilla club, and my new premium should ship on Monday! So pumped to add this outstanding machine. My first new Stern since EHoH. I had a TMNT prem briefly, and it’s a good game, but I’m more an old school 90’s era guy.

One question, did anyone buy the clear acrylic saucer mod from Mezel and then upgrade to something else? Or not use it? I’d like to buy one. I’ll pay shipping and your purchase price plus a few bucks extra if you’d be willing. Thanks!

#17208 1 year ago
Quoted from Puffdanny:

You're gonna kick yourself for not getting one sooner

One thing I can never do is get one sooner! At least it’s happening, and for $1200 less than I offered for one last week. He turned me down at least.

Is the Mothra shooter housing plate available anywhere? Was it only part of the Stern egg shooter package or something?

Quoted from Had:

Regarding the Mothra shooter plate decal, I wasn't able to find something so I made my own.
Click on the image and print at 100%.
It looks completely white when I am uploading this until I click the image so please let me know if it doesn't work.

Thanks!

I have my tracking # for my GZ…sorta like GZ is under the sea walking toward the city…he’s almost here!

#17450 1 year ago

I know lots of Zilla purists feel Megalon is a silly entry, but I like the Jet Jaguar/GZ tag team versus Megalon and Gigan. I like when Jet Jaguar first grows ginormous to fight Megalon, and Megalon doesn’t know JJ isn’t an ally, and JJ cracks him in the grill. But the 2 on 1 beatdown Megalon and Gigan give Jet Jaguar is just dirty pool. Difficult to watch.

Quoted from tedwasright:

But I will give it a brother eventually: Total Nuclear Annihilation.

TNA is a fantastic pin. A truly unique pinball experience with smart code, straightforward goals and great rules that reward combos, spinner rips and 3x jackpot for destroying reactors during multiball. If you enjoy the chaos and intensity of GZ, TNA should be a great addition. I’m on my second TNA.

I finally made it! My own Godzilla arrived today via FedEx. I’ve played GZ a few times on location or at friends’ houses. I liked it, but didn’t experience enough of it to understand the hype. Now I get it. This pin is a masterpiece and the most fun Stern I’ve ever played.

#17499 1 year ago

I’ve been excited about new pins arriving before, but I’ve never had a goofy smile plastered on my face for the first 10 games like I did with Godzilla. And I don’t even have my shaker or mirror blades installed yet. Is there a better start to a MB than Blue Öyster Cult blaring when the 3 balls tumble off the roof? What negative attenuation value are people using to maximize the music balance?

#17517 1 year ago
Quoted from tedwasright:

I will eventually. But on the owners thread there seem to be a lot of QC issues. Is that typical? Forums often offer a platform for extremes. Just curious.

Yes, but only to a small degree. I owned an OG TNA last year and have a 2.0 now. I had a couple minor fit/finish issues, all of which were resolved with exceptional help from Spooky. If you know you love TNA, or you are intrigued, don’t let those worries stop you. It’s a special game.

#17522 1 year ago

Lots of pros are great versions and worth the savings. GOTG is my vote for best pro without losing much, DP, JP2, TWD and Tron also. And don’t forget Big Buck Hunter Pro. Wait, that’s not a trim level, it’s the name of the pin.

#17545 1 year ago

Is there a way to adjust the proximity of the 2 bridge pieces in relation to each other? Mine are very close together, basically rubbing and smashed together so the bridge struggles to collapse. It will collapse partly and be hung up on the other side, so the ball gets stuck. I tried gently pulling them apart, but they are committed to closeness. Is there something I should remove and adjust?

Thank you!

My son covers his ears whenever Godzilla roars.

#17674 1 year ago
Quoted from Desmodromic:

I don't personally care for flipper bat covers, and when I tried green, they looked a little too "John Deere" to me. I tried red, and those look good, I expect orange would look great as well. When I put my last order in at Titan, I added a set of light blue since the lower playfield has a surprising amount of blue in it when you look and at the moment, I like them best.
[quoted image]

Light blue looks great, and I like orange.

Quoted from purbeast:

I got the PBL ones that stick on.
I was playing with it last night a bit and with the playfield flipped up, I couldn't even get my head to fit behind the playfield to see if the circle at the rear of the cab was lined up at all. I'm just not sure exactly how to do it.
Once you peal off the 3M side, can you "slide" them around at all? Or is it super tacky and sticks very easily to the point you can't make changes by pushing em around?

I just installed those Pinball Life mirrors too, and they are awesome. The 3M adhesive on the entire back is great, no more screws or strips of tape. I agree with the above, take your balls out and raise the playfield all the way back to the head. Now you just have a couple inches of playfield in the middle in your way.

I remove the tape, and stand across from the side I’m doing. Keep the blade gently pulled toward yourself (against the side of the playfield) so it doesn’t stick before you are ready. I use an led headlamp so I can easily see the hinge bolt. On Spike 2, the bolts are sunken so not in your way. I have long arms so I can reach the front of the mirror blade while looking for the hinge bolt to center it. Make sure when you have the blade centered over the hinge, that you keep the front of the blade 1/8 inch or so below the plastic track for the glass. Then press and apply. It’s even easier with 2 people, but you can do it yourself without removing the playfield.

After 16 months of waiting, finally here.
Some minor tweaks and cleanup needed (someone at Stern a little too careless with the lube spray) everything seems to be working well.
Now lots of tuning it up.

I haven’t posted much here, but thought I’d share my GZ prem with newly powdered armor by Steve at Pinball Refinery. He does a great job. Boom Boom woofer added in the cab, shaker, mirror blades, and soon to be installed Speaker Light Kit. Such an awesome pin!

ULEK store has some nice mods for GZ. A longer protector over the building entry, a blue plastic UFO protector, orange and blue slingshot plastic protectors and a Godzilla/UFO sighting sign. Nice subtle mods.

I think it's def possible to score one, but I'm impressed you got one for 9499.. that's usually the "I need to get rid of this" price. Selling gz that price... dealer doesn't like money I guess.

I was so lucky to nab a premium for $8,799 in late 2022, right before the prices went into the mid $9s. Fantastic distributor, in my experience.
Probably my best nib price on any pin since I paid $5500 for a JP2 pro in 2019 and $5500 for a DP pro in 2020.

#20320 11 months ago

Finally hit 1B. Reached several milestones for the first time, and still lots to do. It was my first game since installing my Stumblor Tokyo Mod, so that’s probably the reason.

Quoted from wtuttle:

I did the rough math. 10,000 games at an average cost of...$10,000. There you have 100 million in revenue. I think that's what we're looking at for Stern on this single title. Total homerun.

We were already living in a pinball renaissance it seems with all the different companies making new pins. Yes, prices have really exploded, but the competition has created a market where buyers have a ton of choices. If you release a pin it really needs to be good to compete. Stern has enjoyed a lot of success in recent years, thanks in large part to Keith Elwin. JP2 was a big hit, and Stern is still producing that game in the 5th year. But Godzilla was a total smash. It’s rare that demand exceeds supply with a pin produced in these numbers. Small releases like TBL have been expensive and in demand, but those numbers are small compared to Godzilla. It’s already year 3 for GZ, and it’s still selling well. Every company hopes to have one Godzilla to keep the bottom line healthy. Plus, when Stern hits a home run like that, it must make it easier to take more chances on more titles. At some point, after they exhaust their other ideas and run out of music pins, they have to make Jaws, don’t they?

You can get really primitive with it. I put two small desk fans on the coin box pointed up and works the same. Just clunky and dumb. I bought pinmonks once they came to market.

I had a decent game on GZ and unlocked King Ghidorah for the first time. I had Rodan and Mothra qualified, so the video announced “Godzilla, Rodan and Mothra vs. King Ghidorah”. It’s an awesome mode too, with several shots lit up in red, then yellow, then green to complete each shot. I nearly defeated him. I also reached Terror of MechaGodzilla for the first time too, also a cool mode that lets you build more and more multiballs, a little like Gappa Angry, but different. I still barely cleared 1 billion, because I’m bad at rules/scoring strategy. . I love my other Sterns: LOTR, Tron, GB and EHoH, but GZ is a masterpiece. So deep and creative, I probably haven’t seen half the game yet.

#22190 9 months ago
Quoted from vikingerik:

Just to clarify here: That tier-2 battle is always announced as those three monsters vs King G, it doesn't matter if you had the allies qualified or not. Also, you don't actually defeat him - if you complete shots then hit the scoop, you get options to Fight and continue building up scores, or Flee to end it and collect - but there's no mechanism to actually defeat him here.

Ahhh, got it. Thanks. Yeah, I was a shot or two away from completing the shots. I had defeated Gigan to unlock tier 2. I hadn’t beat anyone else. I usually pick Ebirah and rip the spinners. But my son (age 4) insists we fight Gigan whenever he’s playing.

#22200 9 months ago
Quoted from tedwasright:

I hear you. The way I look at it is that old solid states didn't get updates and they are still good games. I don't feel like GZ needs to be better or tweaked enough to change anything. I'm ignorant as to computer stuff. But, right now I'm fine. Don't want to even have to change settings.

I think GZ will update automatically if it’s connected to wireless internet. Others can confirm. I believe my EHoH and GZ have updated in recent weeks while they were on. You may not need to adjust settings once yours is set to free play. But if you ever decide to toggle through them with the coin door buttons, it’s easier than you might think. But these days there are a lot of settings!

I replaced my stock GZ with the darker, meaner Zilla. He’s undersized, but plays bigger than his height.

I wanted to share my experience with the different shooter lane fix options. This might be a settled issue already, so ignore if so. I tried the 3-D printed version from (I think) Lermods. It helped for sure. But my plunges still weren’t smooth or easy to control. I ordered the longer metal version from Freddy’s Pinball in Germany. It’s awesome. So far my plunges are perfectly smooth and I can control the ball for skill shots. If you still have issues with your shooter lane, consider the metal version that runs the full right side of the shooter lane.

Well, I bought the game new almost two years ago, then life happened with a new baby, house, etc. Finally cracked it open tonight to set it up. Super excited to join you all! What did I miss? Anything critical to protect or fix before the first ball?
I haven't even had a chance to play one on location yet, so this is going to be a totally new experience.
[quoted image]

Congrats on your baby, and your LE! You were super busy, or have otherworldly patience! When my wife was in the hospital recovering from delivery of our son in 2018, I was laying on the hospital recliner/sleeper chair ordering a (still) nib X-men Magneto. I had to, you see? It was a very good deal. My wife still brings that move up for some reason.

blessed pinballs

Blessed balls. I agree, I roll with stock Stern or Spooky or JJP balls until they show signs of early corrosion, tiny spots or specks of rust or too many little scratches. But new balls from Stern seem to last a couple years or more in my pins. Granted, I don’t play mine as often as others.

I own IM and GZ at home what is a good 3rd game to compliment these two? Good safe buy..
Any recommendations?
A game that isn’t too hard fun and good for beginners and advanced players alike ?
Basically a game like GZ but not GZ lol
I’m looking at :
Star Wars
Jurassic Park
Deadpool
But I’m kinda clueless I want a good long term game… I’m looking to buy around next year sometime so I have plenty of time to research …
Thanks for any input appreciated

I’ve owned all 3 of your proposed pins, and I still own GZ. I love Star Wars movies and the theme but I personally think it’s the worst choice for long-term casual owners. It’s a very fast, tricky game that can be punishing. I didn’t find it to be an easy game to enjoy or explore. DP and JP2 are both terrific games. JP2 can be a bit tricky with a few shots. It’s good for sharpshooters and people skilled at stringing combos together. DP isn’t my personal favorite, but it’s probably the best choice for casual owners and good players alike. There are things to do for casual players and even kids (some adult humor and content) on DP. Also, DP pro is a great value, I had a pro and didn’t personally miss the premium features. The JP2 pro is a good value too. All 3 are good options depending on what you like…if you love one of the themes go for it! AIQ is another really fun game with great ramps and flow!

Quoted from WillM:

I'm going to throw in Cactus Canyon remake to this mix. Our current lineup:
GZ Premium, GFLE, AC/DC Vault Pro, Elvira's HoH Prem, and CCrSE. In our house Cactus Canyon R is #2 on everyone's ratings (except for me).
CCr is an approachable pin to everyone. It's callouts are hilarious, shots are intuitive. It's just enjoyable to play at any skill level. And, best of all, it's probably the best value on the market today (LE's under $10k and SE's around $7k)
I like your no rush approach to your next pin. Good luck on your quest!

Agree, I had CCr SE and really liked it I only sold mine because I’ll get an SE+ with the topper one day. CC has lots of fun things to shoot for and cool ramps, and is very easy to play for casual players. Pretty nice code and animations by CGC too. I miss…mine. Pun intended!

#24676 5 months ago

So I saw the different examples of Godzilla above and I agree the 2014 tiny-head modern version I went with isn’t super thematically accurate on the game, so I found this one I like best. Looks more like old school Zilla. And his size is much better. He was dwarfed by Jet J and Gigan, Megalon.

Your 4.6B puts you in the top 20 scores. #1 is 32 billion, somehow. My best is still just 1B. But I don’t know the rules well.

#24724 5 months ago
Quoted from BrokenChair:

How do you access stern insider leaderboards I logged in and couldn’t find it anywhere ???

Yeah, I was speaking of the GZ leaderboard here. I think 4.6B puts you around 17-18 high on the premium board. Not sure which trim level is yours. But it’s a great score. I assumed it was near the top 5, but you need like 12B for that. The top score is over 30B. I can’t imagine a score like that. It must have taken an hour or more?

#24759 4 months ago
Quoted from BFaster:

nudging and slapping like a caged gorrilla on crack

Lol, that made me smile. I’m not really a nudger, which no doubt limits my success. But I’m good at control and flipper saves. I don’t find the outlanes to be thirsty or this game a drainer to me. It’s a very long player with fantastic shot mechanics that return the ball to you most of the time. Even the dreaded mini horseshoe shot doesn’t go sdtm on mine. But I’ll admit I pay attention to basic mode progression only. I can usually beat Gigan and Eborah. I usually get 4-5 power ups and reach Monster Zero or Terror of Mecha. That’s about it for me tho! If I ever pay attention to the rules, or watch vids of you skilled/knowledgeable guys, I would improve. I’m a casual player I guess.

I do have some top 10 scores, on pins like Shadow, Junkyard, BDK, CSI, 24, AFMr, MMr, CCr, Mystery Castle, GF. Simpler games are more my speed I think, or pins far fewer people play or post their scores!

#24796 4 months ago
Quoted from Nokoro:

Wait, you can update code???

Kidding.

I’ll be honest, I have no idea what code version is on mine. I have EHOH and GZ and I guess I thought they updated when left on in attract mode. I’ll have to check. I’ve manually updated Ehoh a few times. Can’t recall doing it with Zilla.

#24864 4 months ago

I like the classic Godzilla movies and recently saw the one with King Caesar which was pretty good. I saw the 2014 Godzilla and thought the MUTO creatures were pretty cool, and the finale with the 2 creatures vs Zilla is fun. His tail whip and final atomic heat beam is awesome. I just saw King of Monsters and Zilla vs Kong. Rodan vs Mothra battle was cool. Poor Mothra then takes a shot at King Ghidorah. Yikes. Mechagodzilla in Zilla vs Kong is pretty awesome. Silly, but fun!

Quoted from barndawg:

I've been considering speaker upgrades and was curious what people recommend as being a good value. I was looking at:
* Kenwood Speaker Upgrade @ $100
* Boom Boom Cabinet Speaker Upgrade @ $45
* Pinsound Spike 2 Kit @ $170
* Pinwoofer Spike 2 Kit @ $400
I'm wondering whether folks think these upgrades are worth it for Godzilla and whether the more expensive upgrades justify their price point. My machine is in a concrete-floor basement room with subpar acoustics so I didn't want to go overboard.

Pinwoofer will transform your sound.
Boom Boom is just a reliable cab woofer, it’s better than stock, but won’t be super noticeable.
One option I like that you didn’t mention is a stand-alone powered subwoofer, like a 100w Polk Audio. These do add low-end bass. I have 3 or 4 of them and it’s a reasonable option for adding some rumble to your game. They were a great bargain at $100 for a few years pre-Covid. Then they went to $150 and now it’s tricky to find them under $200. Still worth considering. Not as refined a sound as a complete Pinwoofer kit, but a nice bass booster if your other speakers are working. You need some decent high and mid-range speakers to pair with this bass box. One nice perk is these are 2-way, so you can plop one between 2 pins and attach both pins to one sub.
Another speaker upgrade short of Pinwoofer is Flipper Fidelity. A nice middle of the spectrum sound system. I upgraded my Fish Tales to FF and it’s a quality sound. $150 or so for 3-speaker set. A really nice upgrade.
Pinsound has quality products, but I can’t say I know much about their speakers. I’m guessing they are nice. Their alternate sound boards are excellent. They really transform the playing experience on some pins, like LOTR and BSD.

Quoted from Salami_Inferno:

What’s the word on the best non-reflective glass? Slightly non Godzilla topic but it does impact my Godzilla machine more than my others

I agree with the above comments. My very first pin in 2016 came with Invisiglass, but after that I didn’t buy any HD glass for years. But I came around on it, and now I have Voodoo or Invisiglass on all my machines. They really look nearly invisible when clean, and the playfield just looks so vivid and bright. For a newer pin with a glossy playfield, it’s a great option. Just be careful to only use non-ammonia cleaner, like Sprayaway foaming glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth.
