My pro arrived yesterday, and it has been a blast so far. Already I'm getting scores into the billions!! Unfortunately that’s because the game just continuously awards me (consecutive) loops for no reason, even when I’m holding the ball onto the flippers... I have updated the code to 0.80, but that didn’t help. So it looks like it’s something mechanical? The switch and node tests don’t mention any error. I have no clue where to look for a solution. Any ideas?

Quoted from RikV:

I had this same problem, switch was too sensitive and and would activate by seemingly nothing. I adjusted the switch by ear (you can press the switch and hear the click) and all is well. Except my buddy came over and got 20 loops in a row before the problem was fixed, err.

Tried that, but no effect. I do have the feeling that the problem might lie there, but:

Quoted from fastchef:

I just noticed it awarding me loops when I’m hitting the flippers.

I have exactly the same problem. Can some excess energy from the flippers activate a bad switch?

#2468 2 years ago
Quoted from Lermods:

Nope, different circuit, adjust the switch.

since adjusting the switch didn't work, I disconnected it. Problem remains the same. Thanks for the input, but looks like something else is going on...

#2475 2 years ago
Quoted from Lermods:

you disconnected the switch and it’s still activating? That’s not possible. Put the game in switch test mode and bang on the playfield with your hand to see what’s registering.

The flippers activatie it. Or more accurate: just hitting a flipper grands me a loop. The problem isn't the switch itself, disconecting proves this. I'm going to let my distributer solve this, way out of my league

Quoted from Lermods:

Is it possible the switch you unplugged wasn’t for the loop? Stern has been known to make connections incorrectly. I had ramp optos plugged in incorrectly on avengers. If you unplug it and go into switch test, does it still register?

I unplugged switch nr 58 (big loop enter), so that was correct. Kinda… because I followed your suggestion and smacked the playfield in switch test. Nothing registered, but when I pressed the left flipper button, it activate 3 switches: left, up left AND big loop exit. I don’t think that is supposed to happen. Big loop exit (nr 59) is an opto. When I roll a ball through it, nothing registers. But when I let it drop near the opto, I get a reaction in the swicht test. The vibration of the ball drop (or the vibration of the flippers? or smacking your fist (if there was enough space))) seem to activate the opto. Looks like it might be the same issue like you mentioned for you avengers.
So actually I disconnected a switch that didn’t gave an error. I have learned that the manual exists for a reason

Quoted from nicoy3k:

Maybe your switch is to tight they banging around triggers it

Had the same issue. Problem was the opto in the loop (switch 59 of I'm correct by memory). Changed the opto and everything was fine again.

Quoted from Mjesposi:

Hey everyone - so I followed the switch test process and no switches are triggered when smacking the playfield firmly while in test mode. Once I press the left or right flipper button, the "Big Loop" switch is triggered from that action. If I lightly press on the flipper button it does not activate but normal press and it does. Then once I press on the actual big loop switch, nothing is showing up in test mode, but when I "finesse" the push, I can finally get it to recognize.
I have a ticket into Stern but know how well you all know your stuff when it comes to this and would appreciate any and all help!!! Also n please note that if someone says that I need to "adjust the switch" I don't know what that exactly means and what that entails and need help there are well.
Thank you!!!
Mike

I had the same problem, and the problem was the opto inside the loop. Smacking the playfield showed nothing, but dropping a ball in the loop just behind the building did. In switch test, look at the name of the switch triggered by flippers. If it is 'loop exit' you have to realign or replace the opto.
