The biggest problem I'm having with Godzilla is trying to figure out what pinball to buy next that is worthy to stand next to it. Where do you go from here?

I am getting Scooby Doo and this Saturday a beautiful TOTAN I am trading my JP premium for.

Lucky duck... I'm on the Scooby train myself and maybe one day will get a TOTAN as I think that's a great B/W title. Congrats on picking that up!

Quoted from Pinkitten:

I’ve been excited about new pins arriving before, but I’ve never had a goofy smile plastered on my face for the first 10 games like I did with Godzilla. And I don’t even have my shaker or mirror blades installed yet. Is there a better start to a MB than Blue Öyster Cult blaring when the 3 balls tumble off the roof? What negative attenuation value are people using to maximize the music balance?

Shaker is awesome on this game!

It's really the best one there is. But I do like and recommend all from my current line-up!
- Deadpool if you like the theme, mostly non-punishing gameplay, easily-understood objectives
- Jurassic Park if you want more challenge than GZ but similar kinds of depth, chained-shots, feel
- PotC LE if you have $20k to send my way...

Indeed, is a valid question.
Maybe you will not find better, but, you can find DIFFERENT, what about having other pinballs in your collection that gives different feelings?
I think is the best option. Jurassik Park, Iron Maiden, LOTR, STNG, Hobbit, will give you quite different feelings to have diversity on your games, and, that's very nice. I have Iron Maiden and Godzilla, and it's nice to see that it's completely different way of play and different sensations.

Agreed, something different. I have BM 66, and Rush prem next to my GZ. All different. Used to have a Beatles. That was unique as well. Iron Man would be drastically different too.

Has anyone installed the MRS switch above the upper flipper along with the TDiddy Naegele Oil Building mod? I have the building installed and am considering getting the MRS because I feel I’m getting increasingly cheated of skill shots. Looks like they should both fit but thought I’d ask since they go in a similar location.

Definitely don't have the budget for POTC LE, and if I did I'd rather use it to get two good pinballs I've played a bit of Jurassic and Deadpool. Jurassic was pretty good but didn't feel that open in what to shoot for like GZ (to be fair, maybe I just don't know the rules well enough yet though?) and a bit on the sharpshooter side. Deadpool I'm not that big on the theme but I recognize it's a good game and might be a contender as a less expensive Pro model.

Right now I have Godzilla, Twilight Zone, Attack From Mars, World Cup Soccer, and White Water. I definitely agree that you want diversity. LOTR is on my list to check out, we're going to visit the grandparents for Christmas and there's one not far from them I can play. Also looking at a couple of JJP titles and interested to see what Nordman will be putting out for American Pinball too, plus there's the next Stern announcement in March and Scooby - all of which we know little to nothing about yet. I'm trying to keep it about $10k and under, which cuts out a few that I might otherwise consider like Elvira: HoH.

Not every game can be the best ever and that's fair, just looking for some other top-shelf options to consider. I'm not a fan of rock band themed pins either, so that's been an impediment since it seems like half the new machines are music pins these days.

#17510 1 year ago

Deadppol is really amazing. I am not a fan of the comic books but really love the gameplay, shots, callouts, music and the retro sound effects.

Deadpool theme to me is lame just like every superhero game but it's definitely one of my top 5 favorite games ever.

#17512 1 year ago

I have a Gorgar next to my Godzilla. I love it just as much. Not saying one is better than the other. But I will say that Gorgar is totally enjoyable. Add Slayer albums and all pinball is exponentially better. Haha.

But as I said already, I do believe my next game is TNA. I love all pinball machines.

Quoted from Puffdanny:

The best thing about the Deadpool pin is that they used the comic assets and NOT the film. It's already aged much better and translates easier than had they used the film. Movie is a fun romp, 4th wall breaking paradise but the pin is best on the comic. I would say oddly enough the Deadpool theme might be the single best pinball theme that resonates with me.

I'm not into comic books and mostly stopped watching the Marvel movies a few years ago as they are just cash grabs and made for 14 year olds. But Deadpool as a character is great (I think? lol). I love the heavy-handed humor, vulgar style, anti-hero vibe he has going. Couple that with the comic art style, along with 16-bit 90s-era video game graphics with a great soundtrack and the Deadpool pin is a banger.

So many pins phone-home design, art and wrap it around a playfield that was probably on paper 10+ years ago in some notebook. Deadpool feels like a real work of art in every way. Great voice acting, great design, great art, great music and pulling it all with all of those together while having a great playing pin is quite a mountain to climb. I don't think it deserves to be higher than 7 on the pinside top 100 but I bet if it was a more classic themed pin with that gameplay it would probably be like 4-5 all-time. I think the Deadpool pin isn't love or hate it though, I think "most" people enjoy it but for a large chunk of the pinball enthusiast consumer-base, they didn't grow up with snarky banter, 16-bit anti-heroes.

Deadpool will probably climb on the all-time over the next 10 years as the buyer-base age demographic shifts more to GenX and away from Boomers. I suspect thats also why there are rumors about a He-Man Masters of the Universe pin, why we just saw Scooby Doo drop etc etc.. GenX buyers are starting to become the focus of the market. I think themes like Bond etc from the 60s will slowly become a thing of the past and you're going to see a lot more 70s/80s/90s themed pins emerge ... or... modern themed pins with retro GenX vibes to them.

Example, Deadpool.

#17514 1 year ago

I've had my GZ for about a month now, and I have to agree with everything that has been said; such a great game to play, even though I currently suck at it! But that's the incentive, isn't it? The fun part is the journey to getting better!

Interesting to see that others have similar tastes to my own; my current lineup in addition to GZ is TZ, Beatles (platinum), and BM66. I also received an invoice for TBL today, so that should set me up for some time.

#17515 1 year ago

Not sure if anyone already shared this before, but the egg that comes with the cheap Mothra figure from Amazon can be mounted easily above the left outlane with a paperclip jammed into it, going to a nearby screw. I later had to add some hot glue because it started rotating

I will eventually. But on the owners thread there seem to be a lot of QC issues. Is that typical? Forums often offer a platform for extremes. Just curious.

Yes, but only to a small degree. I owned an OG TNA last year and have a 2.0 now. I had a couple minor fit/finish issues, all of which were resolved with exceptional help from Spooky. If you know you love TNA, or you are intrigued, don’t let those worries stop you. It’s a special game.

Thanks for the excellent write-up, much appreciated! I guess I owe Deadpool another look then - I've kind of glossed over it due to not being into the movies but the few times I've played it it seemed good even without knowing the rules and the 2d side scrolling battles are pretty cool, I used to play games like that back in the 80's. I don't mind superheroes in general, but most of the superhero pins out there don't impress me for various reasons.

One more question - in your opinion is Deadpool one where you need the Premium or does the Pro give you 95% of what you need?

#17519 1 year ago

His write up was great, the sound and music package is just phenomenal, especially if you upgrade the speakers.

I’ve got the Premium and I Looove one of its features, a left orbit/spinner loop that returns back to right flipper for repeated rips. My favorite shot in pinball. That said, it seems like DP is one of the safest recent Sterns to go Pro without losing much. Go for Pro!

totally agree I have a Prem and previously owned a Pro and its minimally different. cosmetics, toys and katana return from left orbit which is nice but not enough. TMNT is the other recent pin where I owned Pro and later LE and I prefer Pro due to issues with mechs needing fixing alot.

Agree this is tough. Maiden for sure holds its own vs GZ. For me its old school AFM that I play the most after GZ and Maiden.

Lots of pros are great versions and worth the savings. GOTG is my vote for best pro without losing much, DP, JP2, TWD and Tron also. And don’t forget Big Buck Hunter Pro. Wait, that’s not a trim level, it’s the name of the pin.

BrokenChair - this MRS magnetic reed switch is what purbeast was talking about as well. (I'm afraid I don't have the Naegele building, though, @roadqueen. I do hope they fit together!) I've had mine installed for a few weeks, it's wider and covers a steeper angle than the stock gate, and has registered everything that's rolled through that area, correcting the problem very well. No regrets at all for a relatively inexpensive solution that works well for me.

In terms of lay-out/gameplay it is indeed hard to imaging same level or above. Attraction may have to come from a special theme and artwork or something completely different.

For comparable code depth and (in my opinion) even better flow - Avengers Infinity Quest (AIQ) is a great game! The audio/video theme integration isn't as good as Godzilla (or Deadpool for that matter), but game play and stringing combos is top notch and the Captain Marvel ramp (Premium/LE) may be the best shot in pinball!

If you want an Elwin experience that’s close to the flow wow factor get IMDN, if you want deeper code go Rush or Avengers. If you want flow with family friendly I recommend Deadpool.

My building got all jacked up on the way down so I lifted the playfield and noticed the two back nuts were gone. I could only find one in the cab so fortunately I have a few laying around. I figured just tighten them back up and your good to go. Wrong all the way tight made the turn screw bound up and the building leaning. I'm thinking a thin nut and a lock nut on top.

I too lust for Deadpool. Hate the theme (and I like superheroes, it's just too obnoxious), but love the playfield design. I think outside of Keith's games DP and Ritchie's Star Wars are my two favorites pins right now. Love the Star Wars theme, but the game is too fast and hard for family and newbies. Deadpool, though, is just fun and has a number of brilliant shots. Luckily my local barcade has both these (Player One, NoHo), so it gives me an excuse to go out and have a beer. Godzilla at home, DP and SW in the hood.

#17532 1 year ago

Since I only have room and approval for 2 pins I feel your pain. GZ is just so damn good it’s a big ask to live next to it.

I’m leaning towards either Scooby once I see gameplay or waiting to see what AP has in the wings. I also keep thinking a MMr would go nicely next to GZ for a different experience…

Does anyone know how to resolve this constant 'Add Credits' message at the end of game play? I have been through the Service Menu/standard adjustment listings numerous times and cannot identify what is creating the message. Both the Action button and Start button do not illuminate. All settings appear to be factory default, except ball save and number of balls. Credits are factory default at 30.
Any assistance shall be greatly appreciated.

I just released a couple of new DMCS mods. A Godzilla figure with pulsating spikes and streaming heatray, both dynamically tied to game play. Then the Xilien DMCS Saucer which has a multitude of lighting effects, and does ball-targeting in the saucer attack mode. Check in on my thread here for more details:

Sorry for the dumb question here. I’ve owned this game for a while and still haven’t figured out to play tier 2 monster battles. How the hell do you relight it after playing a tier? Do you have to be in the same city?

Just added Ulek flipper bat toppers and the ABE_FLIPS 3D printed shooter lane fix to my Godzilla. I like the flipper bay toppers way more than I expected, they are beautiful. As for the fix…So far I have had one bad plunge in 30 games. Also, I have hit the skill shot behind the third flipper more than ever before. Thank you Abe_Flips for the breakthrough mod and mjthompson for the stl file. You guys rock!

Pretty much the same way you do the tier 1 battles except you cannot do it in Tokyo.

You also have to get half way through the tier 1 battle in the second city I believe.

#17543 1 year ago

Ok. So you can’t do a tier 2 battle in Tokyo. Gotta play a tier 1 first then change cities. Then play tier 1 and then you can play a tier 2 in that second city?

Is there a way to adjust the proximity of the 2 bridge pieces in relation to each other? Mine are very close together, basically rubbing and smashed together so the bridge struggles to collapse. It will collapse partly and be hung up on the other side, so the ball gets stuck. I tried gently pulling them apart, but they are committed to closeness. Is there something I should remove and adjust?

Thank you!

You should be able to loosen the screws that hold the plastics, pull the two plastics apart and retighten. Did you include loosening the screws? Should be able to get about a mm of clearance that way.

You can loosen the plastic on the front and open the gap a bit. The back plastic are a lot harder to get to. I removed the bridge pieces so I could loosen those. It’s kind of a pain but worth it. My bridge works great now. I had to remove Godzilla to get to some bridge screws. Put a towel under the bridge because you will drop nuts and washers.

Ran into an issue with GZLE last night where the playfield lights go out, flippers die, all balls drain, then game comes back to life and loads next ball in shooter (no, it's not Terror of Mechagodzilla mode). It happened several times in a long game. Mainly during a multiball. Once during the tier two multiball, and during planet x multiball. Pretty sure I didn't tilt out becaure there were no call outs or screen display, but it definetly seemed like what would happen during a tilt. Hmmmm.

Anyone else see this happen? Maybe I need to replace my SD card? Something else to check?

Did you start saucer multi ball? Flippers go dead and ball drains during the start of that.
