Is anyone having issues where a center spinner shot won't hug the left orbit cleanly, and instead goes straight down the middle? Can't figure out what might be causing it
Quoted from matthess:Just noticed that the carpet inside the building is the same carpet that was at PAPA Headquarters in Pittsburgh.

Ok yeah that's pretty awesome attention to detail. Good eye!
Quoted from zacaj:Is anyone having issues where a center spinner shot won't hug the left orbit cleanly, and instead goes straight down the middle? Can't figure out what might be causing it
Maybe try loosening or tightening the guide right at the opening of the left ramp? There’s a nut under the playfield right there. Might help change the trajectory for the better.
Quoted from zacaj:Is anyone having issues where a center spinner shot won't hug the left orbit cleanly, and instead goes straight down the middle? Can't figure out what might be causing it
Yes, I have this happen pretty often depending on the speed. A fast shot seems to head to the center more often than a slow one.
Have a bud that has had a premium for a bit. He gave me a call asking for input: left flipper has started recently to often stick UP until the right flipper is flipped. His other problem is that I am an old EM guy and terms like flipper opto board are .
Other than find a more qualified friend - any advise/hints?? I may have to learn some new things. It’s my fault, I hooked him on pinball.

I'd start with new coil stops and sleeves. Sterns is crap and might have dirtied up inside pretty good.

So it varies on why the right flipper is releasing the left one. Had that happen recently on my IMDN, but it was due to a dirty coil sleeve. It was filthy enough to get it stuck. The coil would vibrate enough to shake my stuck flipper loose when activating the opposite flilpper.
Theres also other reasons. The bushing that holds the flipper in place might be stuck....the height of the flipper might be too close or too far from the playfield and the arm underneath isnt really perpendicular to the coil path and it can jam. Coil stops as well can cause issues. Best you can start is with the glass off and see if it moves freely and in the switch test replicate it. Can see if a gentle finger tap resets the flipper.
I used this as a good reference as well:

Thanks Death / Sleal
I will pass all of the info along.
I just dropped in and played. Seems not to be a dirt issue but will look into that. I say that as I was able to get the flipper to stick up as the ball was delivered to the trough as a ball save. No matter how much I reasonably jostled the machine, the flipper did not release.
Touched the button to do a soft launch and BAM flipper down. On a EM I’d be looking at the EOS contacts but on this - not sure what I’m gonna see when he gets here to pop the hood!!

Play another game and get the flipper stuck up, then power off the machine and see if the flipper drops. This may help rule out one or the other knowing if it's mechanical or a energizing coil issue.
Damn Death! simplicity and common sense!!! Will give it a try.
RE coil stops
Pinball life??? Other ??? assuming they are better than Sterns. As a EM guy , I’d just call Steve!!!

Quoted from Medic:Has anyone put anything on top of the building with the hooked on pinball ball mod? Maybe a small helicopter there etc? Thanks

I added some detail and did a repaint, still looking for the right size helicopter. Hell, still waiting for the machine to put it in.

My kid has a Thomas the Tank set that has a helicopter that would fit perfectly. It's a small set. Here a link to something that looks similar.

Hey - am I overlooking something obvious?
Sometimes when I can choose to leave a city, I'm not sure if I have won the battle yet or not... is there an easy way to tell at that point since I can't hold the flippers and scroll through the info screens while in city select mode?
Thanks!

If you have won, The city will say “Tokyo controlled by Godzilla..” or “Tokyo controlled by Ebirah..” if not.

Thanks, but where does it say that?
I'm talking about the city select screen where you can cash in your carnage value or stay in the city and keep building it.

I think the battle (raid yellow icon) on the playfield lights solid when you complete the battle. But that screen should also say (stay in Tokyo and rematch whomever if you haven’t beaten them yet).

Thanks! I'll pay more attention and look at the playfield light as well. I usually know when I have won a battle, but sometimes with multiball going on, etc, I don't notice the call out or screen and then am not sure if I get to change cities and haven't looked at the info screen beforehand.
I've been trying not to change cities unless I win the battle at a minimum.

You can use the city inserts in the center of the playfield to know also. Solid white for a city means you didn't finish the battle and left the city. Rapid flashing white for a city means you're still in that city and the battle isn't over yet. Slow pulsing white means you've finished the battle for that city so Godzilla controls it.

I thought I was liking the way these looked with the new paint. Kicking myself in the ass that I didn't light them up now. I may revisit them and add lights if the machine doesn't arrive from the batch that is coming off the line now.

Was Gamera in any Godzilla movies? Love to include one on the playfield but didn’t think it was ever part of the Godzilla franchise. Btw, don’t have my game yet so not sure if Gamera was included in any of the game footage. Thanks.

Nope, different studios entirely. Gamera was from Daiei studios, Godzilla from Toho. There’s been interest in a Japanese crossover like with Kong, but no actual movement as far as I know.

Oh, duh! Of course
I'm really digging the last couple of updates which added the 'Terror' and 'Monster Zero' mini wizards, which are more complex than I would have expected. The code had depth before, but now it also had width with the different goals to pursue. Also, the eerie music and sci-fi sound effects in MZ just feel like classic Godzilla to me. Looking forward to seeing what's next, but there's already so much going on in this game for only v0.96.

not in a movie, but once in a toho live action show
I am not seeing any Cliffy protectors specific to Godzilla for sale. No need?
Also, I am not see a ton of commentary on flipper fade for this machine. Any thoughts on the need for flipper cooling fans?
Other than protecting the plastic under the bridge on the Premium/LE models, I don't see a lot that has to be done to protect these machines out of the box.
Please let me know if i am missing something obvious.
Thanks!

cliffys: have to contact him directly
flipper fade: this machine has had the worst fade i've seen, personally, on a stern so far. fans were a must for me (and many others)
I highly recommend this collection if you are trying to beef up your Godzilla collection. https://www.amazon.com/GODZILLA-SHOWA-ERA-1954-1975-Criterion-Collection/dp/B07VLJ9KB6/ref=sr_1_1_sspa

Do you know if the original English dub audio tracks are available for each movie in this release? I had heard that the audio was Japanese language only, despite the listing saying English/Japanese.

I think the need for cooling fans is based on how many people are playing and how many back to back games you are playing. Personally I have not experienced any fade. That being said it's usually just me playing (sometimes two people) and only a few games. I (we) always bounce around between my other pins. In my current use case I don't need them on my machine.

Good questions wondering about the need for cliffys as well. Looks like it has a scoop protector and shooter lane protector already? Assume cliffys are better but if the Stern ones work is there a point?

There are some of the English dub but for the most part its to be watched in Japanese with English sub. They are all the Japanese versions opposed to the American versions. Several of the movies had very different movies released in the different countries.

Thanks for confirming. That's pretty much what I had heard and what has kept me from buying this set. I already have some of the Japanese language versions of these films, but would double-dip if I could get the versions I remember seeing as a kid.
Feeling philosophical on a Friday...
Wondering if there comes a point in Pinball ownership where a game just "clicks"? So far, I've owned both JP (Data East) and Godzilla (Pro) and it's happened to me with each machine.
Prior to last week, my average game on Godzilla was right around the 100M mark - usually lasting around 5mins total. Since then, I've probably played 7-8 games or so, and don't think I've gotten a score below 800M. I am consistently getting EBs, Rampage (which I never got to previously), Saucer Attack MB (which I never got to previously), Monster Zero (new to 0.96), and have set 3 GCs within this time period. I'm starting to get to the point where I actually need to set aside at least 20mins if I am even thinking about starting a game. It's an absolutely incredible feeling, I can't drain!
WHAT IS HAPPENING?!?
So behind the translite, I used/taped a plastic sheet running from the top of the back box (midway front-to-back) to the metal bar in between the translite and the speaker panel. I then attached a 20- SMD warm white strip running at an angle behind Godzilla's fire breath, and 2 Comet fire post lights at the bottom left (at that area of a burning explosion). I then hooked these lights (with Comet matrix system) to the Red portion of GI and received a very nice effect.
I made a small YouTube video of the effect for those interested.

I have this collection - it is EXPENSIVE. But it is worth it if you prefer the original releases of all these films. For the most part, they are way better. Godzilla for example is the most different, but is separately available. Criterion did a good job with what they were able to get their hands on - the supplemental features are very interesting, including the original-original King Kong vs. Godzilla, which in 35 years of watching these movies, I had never seen. But if you just want to get a kick out of watching old Godzilla movies, almost all of these are on Tubi or Pluto in their dubbed versions.
